Week 13: Genoa (12-0) vs. Orrville (9-3)

  • OQB
    HAHA!

I guess from the Toledo Blade article:

Nutter- 37 rushes for 157 yards, 2 fumbles
Josh Bryer completed 5-of-17 passes for 38 yards, including the TD pass to Dufendock and an interception

    Orrville:
    total yards 257 (114 rushing, 143 passing)
Kyle Lichti (10-for-21 for 143 yards) 1 TD 1 int....Very efficient tonight and managed the game well! Although I'm sure he would like one throw back...
Tanner 24 yard FG (also did a great job of kicking off, why has it taken 13 weeks to make him the kickoff man?)
No rushing stats for Simpson or Monheim.....

The Comets were held to 12 first downs and were called for seven penalties for 60 yards compared to only three for 15 yards for the Red Riders.

just a thought on the whole respect thing would u call your orrville fans chanting you cant stop us and genoa sucks very respectiful or what about the 6 orrville fans who was gonna come up and run in our stands with a min and a half left is that respectiful just a thought

On the other hand the comet fans were really dissapointing tonight i mean really the only time u can stand is when ur team is doing good its easy to cheer then how about getting off ur butts when ur team needs it most and really leaving with 5 mins left real supporters let me tell u u r all pathetic and shouldnt even show up to the game as promised me and our crowd was at the top with our noise makers cheering untile the clock hit 0:00 even though we new we wasnt winning the kids needed our support and u bastardfs left them hanging on the feild how pathetic r u really?

On the other hand #61 andrew hayes had one hell of a game with countless number of tackles an INT which no one has had a successful screen pass against him all season by the way and played every play until the very end deffiently and all state selection and will make a hell of a college player if he decides to play which he better overall good game very dissapointed with the GENOA FANS!!!!!!

You sound like a proud father of a certain defensive lineman......

About the Orrville fans, if you were winning and driving down the field to close the game out I think you would be chanting the same thing! Don't play that game with us.

As for the kids in your stands, they obviously didn't go up so what's the big deal? their were plenty of Genoa people on the Orrville side.....

I agree with your comments about the comet fans, very surprised, maybe not....they are sore winners and sore losers. Too bad that the great comet fans have to be under the same umbrella as them cause it really makes you look bad, and I know some of you personally, and I wish everyone would be fans like you.

And on that note...I out! Look forward to BRF's game summary when the sun comes up....or so! Ha Ha!

Orrville won this game for three reasons.
    1. Genoa turned it over more
    2. The fake punt conversion
    3. and the main reason I believe Orrville won....#25 was the best player on the field, he was real good!!!!

#25 is being recruited by who for college??

good morning sleepy heads.....in your best Mo Tipton voice......Oh what a beautiful morning....
it's a great day to be a Red Rider. Congrats again to Genoa for another awesome season. I am sure you are sick of us....that is a good thing...use it to go back to work this off season..and we will try to get back there with you.
can't say enough about the team....and that is the key word "team". Yeah we have our guys who get the ink, nothing you can do about that, but we have a solid group who plays hard hitting football and gives maximum effort....and if you try to key on one or two, then three or four will hurt you, it is a very good problem problem to have...spreading the rock around. Coach Haley is a beast! Not only is he pumping out Div I Linebackers he is dialing up defenses that flat out get after it! Cannot say enough about the men up front for the Riders....Trevor, Graber, Reusser, Vance, Groves, Ronnie,..wow! What a season you guys are having and just getting better and better.
can't say enough about this senior class providing the leadership and setting good examples on and off the field. Whooda thunk this is where we would be? Enjoy it all and keep it going!

Kind words...thank you. Mason is onlya Junior and has an offer from Illinois already and spent last Saturday and Sunday in Lincoln NE with Husker Nation. They spent from 11am til Midnight with him. He had taken early trips to the Big House and Cincinnatti this year as well. He is being pursued by most every Big Ten school and Big East School. He is even a better kid than football player!

Congratulations Orrvillians! Final four includes you! You have Genoa's number like Lake Catholic has ours. Proud of my Arrows and still cheering for the Red Riders. The OCC title may not have been our two teams, but the playoffs are yours! Keep on ridin' and enjoying it all.

Dang Sinister! I thought you had it last night! I was getting sharing updates with an Arrow throughout the night and it was going so well...i saw in the sport's coverage...did it come down to a muffed punt? Say it aint so! Ughhh!. Good luck to that stud of yours. Be looking forward to you keeping us updated as the "Fuller story" continues out East!

ps I love the "reason for editing" I agree....get 'em out of our play offs!

Heard it with my own ears walking out of the stadium last night

"it stinks to lose to an inferior team"

Are you kidding me!!!!!???? If you don't get it now, you never will. We play tough football over here in NE Ohio.

    More later....got a busy Saturday.

Genoa was rolling early with their signature 6-8 yard carries and I was worried. They really only got two drives going into our territory and both ended with fumbles. They've got an awesome kicker who inexplicably missed the PAT, just like last year. Got to hand it to our defensive coaches--whatever adjustment we made put us in lockdown. It was pretty cool to see us stacking up on Nutter. Forced Genoa to drop back to pass, which they did at their peril--"Nice to meet you #88." "Cody Rice! Where did you come from?" That only leaves them with toss sweeps and swing passes. The rollout pass plays resulted in the quarterback feeling like a tackling dummy for charging linebackers. Genoa didn't have the answers they needed.

I still can't believe they let us get away with the fake punt. We had sputtered and that play, the ensuing classic Monheim TD run and the following defensive stand, marked the high point of the season for me.

I'm glad we have a ground game that you have to respect. Even though it wasn't as a big a night as some on the ground, it opens up the big plays down the field, which because of our speed is just a matter of getting the ball there on time.

Genoa is a very good football team. Their downfall is when they get into the playoffs, they haven't yet faced a team that has smacked them in the mouth. They don't know what to do when that happens. They are a team who needs to start thinking playoffs instead of SLL championships and mega tailgating parties and home winning streaks and all that other nonsense. Otherwise, you'll keep saying, "Good season boys" while the other team holds up the trophy.

SLL, you left out the most important reasons : Our kids work their tails off in the weightroom, receive excellent coaching and can flat out fly!

Agreed!...I caught crap from RINGZ and Pitman (Triway folk) and still do because they thought I brought it up too much in matchup talks with teams about our guys speed. But when you have Linebackers and DE's that can run as fast or faster than RBs....it helps and it showed last night. Add to that Turner and Brenner and Simpson. Lots of weapons offensively and defensively.

We have our Clear Fork buddies for aiding us in our preparation for Genoa. We had not faced a dominant run offense all year until week 9 and that whippin' showed our boys the way they needed to play to compete against a team that is content on pounding the ball. Had it not been for that game we would have struggled against Genoa. Our first two playoff opponents ended up with neg run yardage and they threw it on us what? 100 times? That would not have prepared us at all for last night. Thank goodness for the Colts! I know it is no solace to them but they were a big part of our success.

For some Genoa fans who need it.

Some cheese to go with that WHINE.............................

NO! Orrville won this game for "ONE" reason.. The Riders are the better team and they proved that hands down!

Feeling so great waking up this morning knowing that Rider Country is Rockin. Can't wait to get a hold of the game film so I can sit back and enjoy this one all over again.

While you're waiting, read the two nice stories in the Daily Record by Dorksen and Plant. Dorksen's game account actually includes the story of Mrs. Pickett giving up her knee brace! Plant has a cool side story on Drew Brenner.

Have to politely disagree on this one. Not sure what you mean by home winning streaks and 4 consecutive league championships being 'nonsense'. Where we come from most people would see that as something of an accomplishment to be a little proud of. Mega-tailgate parties - they're fun and they most surely are nonsense, and as far as I know they are NOT a distraction for the players or the coaches would have asked us to stop a long time ago.

As far as playoffs - sure it would have been nice to win a state title one of these last four years, but I'm realistic about where this program is right now. I can't say there is anyone in Genoa that is honestly discouraged or disappointed about a 7-4 playoff record in the only 4 years we've ever made the playoffs. And one more little secret - I can personally guarantee you that there are only 6 teams in the ENTIRE state of Ohio that will not run into a team that will "smash then in the mouth" this season.

    SO -

To Orville - "Great season Boys! " Regional champs in a tough game and a tough season - best of luck next week!

To Genoa - "Great Season Boys! " fourth consecutive league title, fourth consecutive playoff appearance, 39 game regular season win streak, regional runnerup in a close game with a tough team, 12-1 overall record, Senior class the most wins in school history - - . NOTHING to be disapponted about!

And as long as I'm on my high horse, might as well talk about the Genoa/Orville "bad sportsmanship" - I'm sorry, but if you go into the stands of any sporting event, ANYWHERE and look for examples of bad sportsmanship, I guarantee you'll find it. If you go in looking for examples of great sporstmanship, I guarantee you'll find that too! It is grossly unfair to judge ANY group of people solely on anecdotal evidence.

It's a great day to be a Red Rider!!!

Driving through town today everyone is wearing red and has a smile on their face :D

Like I said last night, that offense you run will only get you so far, do you think vicars will change his ways?

Now I know you're smarter than that :) When you have the record that he has the last four years, you don't change your ways because of one close defeat in week 13. He will do what he and any other coach worth his salt does - you adjust your scheme based on the talent you have that year. Silly question :)
  • OQB
I was just asking Haha, I mean I think you have to be a balanced team this time of year and Genoa is run, run, run, ok let's try a pass.
