Week 13: Genoa (12-0) vs. Orrville (9-3)

  • GenoaComet
Truth is I am very pleasantly surprised the team made it as far as they did this season. The quarterback is coming along nicely, but no pretensions of having a strong passing game this year. Kyle Nutter really carried the team offensively - it is a tribute to him, but also to the whole team that they made it to aregional title game with a sophmore running back as their main weapon. This was supposed to be the "rebuilding" year. We'll have some excellent linemen to replace next season, but I am excited about our prospects. High school football sure is a lot of fun!

    It sure is awesome!

Now I'm off to watch my brother's high school (where he teaches) the Oak Hill Oaks take on the Freddies of Frederickstown. Nothing compared to Orrville football though.

Just an fyi, we were called hillbillies last night by a group of Genoa fans as we were waiting for the gates to open.

I of course couldn't keep my mouth shut and and got the rider fans chirping right back at them with a good ol crack myself....just about that time the riders rolled in to the wonderful sound of the rv horn!!! Haha

Just like to say the better team won last night...but all the people saying that Genoa doesn't play anyone and it shows in the playoffs. I have to disagree. Genoa has had some nice runs. If Orrville is that much superior...then I don't see it. The Orrville posters are acting like they beat us the last two years by 50. We have played you twice and you have beat us by a grand total of 11 points. That is less than a touchdown a game. Both games could have went either way.

This years team was not suppoise to go this far in the playoffs. They ony had a few returning starters. This was a rebuilding year. I didn't think we could beat OG or Clear Fork. Our youth showed last night but next year looks bright for the comets. Hopefully we can do this again next year.

Now Red Riders go get that ring and make region 14 proud.

I would like to add Orrville was supposed to be down this year as well.....we are just happy to still be playing.

    A win is a win!

Thanks for the comments Einstein! Your math is impeccable (11/2 = 5.5) and I'm sure the Comets would be happy to hear that you thought they'd lose earlier. Difference in a Comet fan & a Rider fan: we believe our kids will win every game. It's called tradition.

About the Orrville fans, if you were winning and driving down the field to close the game out I think you would be chanting the same thing! Don't play that game with us.

As for the kids in your stands, they obviously didn't go up so what's the big deal? their were plenty of Genoa people on the Orrville side.....

I agree with your comments about the comet fans, very surprised, maybe not....they are sore winners and sore losers. Too bad that the great comet fans have to be under the same umbrella as them cause it really makes you look bad, and I know some of you personally, and I wish everyone would be fans like you.

actually yes we would prob. be chanting but it would not be anything like u cant stop us or orrville sucks it was a had fought game and respect is do to both teams even after the game is over a understand a couple of stupid fans hear n there but not the majority or the ppl. thats all i was saying and no im not the fateher of that great def. lineman considering hes 17- im 23 but i would not be ashamed to be his father he played a heck of a game and had a great season alon with the rest of the comets i just wish our fans were a little more into the game weather it be on the winning side or the loseing especially in a game of that caliber just think 4-5 years ago we were getting out butt handed to us week in and week out we finally string some winning seasons together and fans get mad when we put up 50 on a team when we play our 2nd and 3rd team most of the game what do u want to have a close game every week then u would never leave ur seats to stand up and cheer because u would be to afraid of loosing the game for gods sake get off ur butt and cheer ud team on winning or loosing our little section is there every week cheering and we will be there next year while our fans our looking at us like we r crazy for cheering just whish we had a better fans base that would really cheer on our team
and was only refering to our 2nd and 3rd stringers to infer we r not trying to blow ppl . out of the stadium not any inplications of a weak schedule!!!! so lets not go there we heard it enough and as for our week schedule ans not preparing us for orrville as u guys say thats why u beat us cause we were not tested and didnt know what to do then what do u call a 7-6 game with O.G. and a 38-29 game with CF a walk in the park just saying we had some comp. this year and 3 games this season in our league along with 2 very tough games in the playoffs we just mad a few to mistakes and u capitalised when we couldnt u played the better game mistake free and fundamentally and thats why u won just like every one said who every did those things would win the game it proved to be true!!!

I'm also "fairly" close to the situation also. Just thought it would be interesting what people have to say about it or find out how it even got started.

    very nice...thanks

It was good to see Victor and Vincent Monheim and Sam Miller out on the field post game. Some tears of joy from them and I am sure a few emotions of what could have been, but I will say that bunch is as much a part of this team's success as anything. You looked around the group on that field and whether it was coaches/parents/siblings it was a plethora of Red Rider Tradition!

(that word was for you BRF)

Thanks. I'm just starting doing this. I absolutely love it tho. I'm thinking about starting a site where parents/ fans can grab the pics and download them to print or I can put them on discs. For a small nominal fee maybe. One thing is certain I need a bigger lens and maybe a camera upgrade. I only have a Nikon D3000 which I just bought. Its entry level DSLR and 10.2mp. Might take it back and get either a D5000 or D3100.

Take a look at the site I run for Indian Creek. We have a gallery for the photos I take (yours are much better) and the kids and parents love it.
