Week 13: Genoa (12-0) vs. Orrville (9-3)

Well the good news is at this pace we will have 500 pages of useless, irrelevant, BS to read again this season.... Good game comets! My only post for this week...

I've seen Orrville twice this year, and I saw Genoa tonight against Clear Fork in person. My early prediction goes to Genoa by 14. However, it was tough to gauge, really, because defending Orrville is a whole different ballgame than defending Clear Fork. Orrville is not only athletic and tough at the RB position but also on the edge where they can stretch the field just as well or better than anyone Genoa has faced this year. If they can make Genoa honest in the defensive backfield, it might just open things up some.

However, on the other side of the ball, Orrville still has to stop Genoa. If they got controlled by Clear Fork's offense, it makes me think they would get controlled by Genoa's, which is just as, if not more, efficient and effective. I understand, though, that teams change as well as game plans. It will be interesting to see how the two teams match up individually. Maybe those key 3rd down conversion passes that Genoa had won't be nearly as open against Orrville... but Genoa was still good at the pass.

Either way, I think this will be a great game. Out of the 4 choices of 1) Orrville wins in a close one, 2) Genoa wins in a close one, 3) Orrville wins in a blow-out, and 4) Genoa wins in a blow-out, the one that will definitely not happen, IMO, is #3. Orrville will not win this going away. So obviously I'm impying that I wouldn't be surprised if Genoa won this going away late. That being said, I really think it'll be a 14-point or less game when all is said and done. Orrville has too much quick-strike ability to ever be counted out, and they may be able to match up well across the field. But again, can they stop Genoa's run game? #34 Nutter, their stud running back (a Sophomore) is FAST and POWERFUL. A great combination with great effort, and very fun to watch.

Good luck to both teams, but I'm rooting for Orrville! Go Red Riders!

Our defense held them scoreless for 23 minutes and 50 seconds in the first half!

Our offense was inside the Colt 30 yard line atleast 5 times and didn't come away with any points in the first half!

If we score just ONCE out of those 5 posessions in their territory it's a completely different game.

Orrville's defense was just gassed and the Colts poured it on.

I think you will be surprised this year, just like last year!

Not saying you guys aren't good but I mean 1st Half the offensive yardage in the CF/Orrville game was in favor of the Colts 186-34. Sounds pretty one sided
  • OQB
yeah cause we were in their territory the entire half and couldn't get anything going.

If we score their it's a different ball game.

they may of had 186 yards, but they didn't score until their were 6 seconds on the clock.....our defense kept us in that game for as long as they could and our offense did not show up at all!

Hmmmmmmmm.......I guess I'll join in. After all, we've already heard that the game is in Tiffin because of a Tweet, the Guru of NW Ohio football extolling the greatness of Tiffin's stadium, and everytime the thread starter makes a comment we get to feel like we are reading a comic strip.

Here's a little thought from an old guy: throw out the records at this point. The score right now is 0-0.

    Classy...

I like your approach. Now let me see your departure....and remember this, A sharp tongue does not mean you have a keen mind!

Why do some people get so wrapped up in "what will the score be"? Who cares? Winning by one point is the goal. In week 2, we were up on Pitman's team 41-6, then they scored a couple cheap touchdowns late in the game. In week 11, we prevailed in a hard fought contest 27-25. What do you draw from this? Triway improved and we didn't? What is the bottom line? I hope that during this week, Genoa lulls themselves with the satisfaction of knowing that Clear Fork beat us 33-0.

All I know is Orrville will be bringing the Rider swag to the game and will be playing with a chip on their shoulder!

    Oh yeah!! :D

Not to mention our hardnosed, hard hitting defense that will be the most physical they have seen all year!

That's one thing I was thinking about on the way home, tonight. Clear Fork has a very good defense, but I didn't see the tenacity, speed, or physicality which I'm accustomed to seeing when Orrville plays. Clear Fork had some big hits, as did Genoa... but it wasn't quite the same as Orrville's "D". Genoa's D was very good at times, too, though. It's hard to say that after giving up 29 points, but both teams' offenses are top-notch.
  • OQB
Yup, you should've seen the defense tonight! Best defense I have seen in quite some time! Tre may of had the best game of his entire Orrville career and he didn't even score a TD....

He himself held Rogers to 0 catches until Tre went out with 3 minutes to go with an injury....then Rogers had 3 catches.

Unbelievable effort tonight by the entire Orrville defense!

I think this game will be once again be deteremined how our offense performs.....

After the gut-wrenching upset to Orville last year, I can guarantee that Genoa will not be taking this game for granted. The Genoa coaches will have an interesting task this week just channeling all the emotion from the players that still remember the pain of last years loss to Orville. I'd love to be a fly on the locker room wall next Friday night about 7:20... This one should be a real dandy!

Here I lit the candle for the Comets so they can reflect and ponder how they are going to beat the Riders! :D

It is a dream come true! for both of us.

^We take pride in that, it's not our problem that you don't understand it and therefore have to try and make fun of it. As far as the game goes, it will all be about matchups. Genoa's hard-nosed run attack and if they can wear down orrville's defense like what CF did. Then there's Orrville's spread and if Genoa can disrupt the attack before it picks them apart. Orrville is a good team with storied history, and I want to like them but it's hard when all this thread has been is a childish pissing contest. How about we stop trying to shoot low-blows, and bring up last year, and try to talk football?

This comes straight from Genoa's 09 seniors. This year's team has half the talent, but twice the the focus which is a whole lot more dangerous. If you're expecting last year's team or to be overlooked, expect to be suprised.
  • OQB
I would've been happy for either rematch...I am just happy we are still playing in week 13!!

    Just a little note:

Under Coach Davault who is in his 5th year now, we are 6-2 in the playoffs, with 3 Regional final appearances!

The first two Regional Final games we have been the away team, and have lost to 2 really good teams....but maybe, just maybe this is the year we get over that hump as the home team in the regional final!
  • OQB
    BWcomet,
My apologies, just think it's weird....

As far as this game will go,

We are alot more balanced than last year.
We have more team speed than last year.
We are a more physical team than last year.
We have more weapons than last year.

Say all you want....we will show up and we will play hard...and when it's over you will know the Red Riders were there. Gonna be an epic night! I can't wait. It would be nice to have a bit of mutual respect this year...I think we've all earned it.
  • OQB
I certainly respect the comets, after their great second half surge last year....had me nervous! haha I just don't think we will get that respect from them....hardly anyone gives it to us!

For example tonight, EC goes for it on 4th down and 5 on their FIRST possesion! Total slap to the face of our defense, and we made them pay....all night long!

Really? Please do not listen to this. I want Genoa to win but this is the dumbest thing I have ever read. Just because you lost to CF and we won means nothing. It is 2 different teams with 2 different game plans. This Genoa team is not as good as last year but they keep finding a way to get it done every week. Now let's talk football. What is Orrville great at this year.
  • OQB
Haha, 5knots I think everyone is drained from that great game we witnessed tonight.

Don't sweat it pburgh.....we know he's a butt. Let him rant. What are you doing up so late? haha

I suspect that this is the overall thought of the comets, but I'm not banking on it. lol

As far as Orrville this year:

Our offense will really make or break this game, they have been shaky at times (CF game didn't show up) but the past 3 weeks we have been rolling.....so hopefully we can continue that next week.
