Can Youngstown Ursuline be beat?

Blah blah blah. So then the Irish have never been the best EVER then?!?! Don't recall them ever beating the state champ D1 school.
Ohio;552280 wrote:No need for crying about recruiting at all.
Oh the old "no crying" response. The second in the standard right after "you have to beat the best" response. Please continue on with the free pizza parties and free sports tkts and raffle drawings for 'perspective students'.
Ohio;552280 wrote:You act as if they are the only school in ohio who gets players from all around their area. Do you see any kids on mooney or ursuline on their roster who lives even more then 20 minutes away from their school? Not a chance.
So count the potential enrollment for the geographical area they recruit from. Every high school aged boy within a 20 minute radius I am sure adds up easily to D1 size. But that would preclude Ursuline from getting to pick and choose.
Public schools don't get to pick and choose. They take all students in their assigned geographical area. It doesn't matter if it's a special needs student getting D- grades or star athlete. I can't imagine what a beast a team like Massillon or Big Red would be if they could just turn away attendance and play in D5. Imagine too if they could turn away kids getting bad grades. They could claim to be cutting edge college prep at the top end in academics too. Wow wouldn't the world be a dreamy place if we could all be like Ursuline!

tsst...it is a joke whats going on around the state with some of the private schools! The state has to do something. Its not a level playing field at all and it will be very evident this Friday when Ursuline plays Norwayne...

Just curious, how many kids are on the Varsity Roster? How many are being looked at by D1 Colleges?

If you think that Campbell schools and Ursuline are on the same level, you're absolutely nuts. If you look in the paper at the end of the year and see the number of students with $100k ACADEMIC scholarships, it's actually astounding.

The same for Mooney and Warren JFK

What would happen if they were d5 this yr? Hmmm both lose to ursuline. ;]

I think the answer is simple. Take the 650 or so public schools and divide them into 6 divisions based on enrollment and then divide them into regions based on location. Then take the 70 or so privates and divide them into 6 divisions based on enrollment and then into regions based on location. Then just combine each of the corresponding regions together. So if there are 72 total private schools the 12 smallest would be Division 6 spread out equally in the 4 regions. The next 12 smallest would be Division 5. The next 12 Division 4 and so on.

Each division would end up with about 108 public schools and 12 private schools. Each region would have about 27 public schools and 3 private schools. Teams like Ursuline would end up in Division 4 or maybe Division 3 without using a multiplier and allow the small Division 6 schools to remain there. Ursuline is placed based on their enrollment relative to other private schools and can still compete against public schools. I think its a win win for everyone.

Ursuline loves this. Three peat? Think so

I am not going to get into the whole public vs. private issue, but I will say this. I respect any school that goes up against what is considered to be a perennial powerhouse and gives it their all. I will also say that yes I do believe that Ursuline can be beat. It will take a team that has a great run defense, and stays committed to that defense. I am not saying that it would be easy, but Ursuline relies too much on Teague. Take him out of the equation and it is a whole different ballgame. I know I have already set myself up to be bashed by the Irish faithful, but I would be disappointed if they didn't stand up for their boys. I am just trying to cap off what the thread is about. I sincerely do believe that Ursuline is beatable. Good luck to all teams and players in the playoffs. Hope they stay injury free. Go Falcons!!!

The only team in ohio who could compete this year would be ed's. Ursuline has about 5 runningbacks that they could throw at you other then teague get some actual facts before your rambling continues anymore.
  • oh yeah!!
i mean i guess if i beat up on smaller schools for my whole life i would get used to it..... and you wonder why teague doesn't get any bigger looks? the man is the real deal but can he handle a beating from the likes of D1 athletes week in and week out????

ursuline is the real deal and there is no one in d5 heck not even d4 that would stop them this year their line is just way to overpowering!!!

I think we should use this years Ursuline team as the poster child for a campaign against the OHSAA. Plaster the televised state champ game with posters and banners with the inequities of private schools with massive "acquired D1 talent" playing in small school divisions.

There are lots of teams that can beat the Irish. Just not true D5 teams. The Irish faithful have got to be DAFT if they think they could run through the D1 playoffs. They would be 1 or 2 and done at very best.

    You serious, Clark?

Look, Ursuline is a very good team. Could they give some of the D1 big boys a run for their money in a one-off game? Absolutely. But could they run a 5 game playoff gauntlet and win the D1 title? Not in this lifetime, or any other. Sorry.

Where is the game vs Kirtland at?

Ursuline is the cream of D5, they would probably win the championship in most other divisions as well. However, I don't believe they would be able to run the D1 5 game playoff gauntlet. I've had the pleasure of watching Ursuline, St. Eds, Glenville and Solon this year. All the aforementioned teams are as big, just aboout as fast and much deeper than Ursuline. Throw in the Cin Catholic D1 schools along with Hillard Davidson and I just don't see Ursuline making it into the championship game. Its no crime to love your team but some of Ursulines fans may need to take in a couple top caliber D1 games before crowning themselves a D1 contender.

Sorry if this has already been mentioned, but I heard that Kirtland's QB is out with an injury and will not play. Any truth to this?

Ursuline IS the best team in the state of Ohio and its so lop-sided its pretty much unfair. They are sick this year... Im not an Ursuline fan, nor do I have a soft spot for them... They are the real deal.
