Ohio it is gonna change whether you like it or not.. look to be in div 3 and up soon... my guess div 2 accordingly.. if you can beat those school you dont need to be in div 4 5 6. cant wait for this to finally happen. and see how many kids start to stay home in about 5 to7 years. I'm not saying anything bad about Ursuline Mooney. But come on that excuse is worn out.. i have talk to kids that went to those school. some are friends i still talk to. And they where recruited and promised a future as a starter. Well some went and never played a down other in clean up till there senior year..

Trust me, throw Ursuline in any division, our expectations remain the same: 15 weeks - state title. As a fan, I'd love to move up a few divisions, mainly so we can take down the public school programs in the area that don't want to play us, i.e. Poland, Canfield, Fitch, etc. We are coming!!!

Ursuline could hang in D3 year in and year out. No doubt in my mind

there are two sides to every story...one is the kid leaves his hometown and is unbelievably successful, but then there is the case of pj quinn. left campbell to play at mooney thinking he was good enough to play at that level. now finds himself sitting behind a sophomore as a junior. unless something happens his high school career will be limited to second team snaps and mop up duty. great athlete who couldve had a full career at campbell and will never get these high school years back. and he wont ever have the chance to play high school football again. its a sad story, cus hes a good kid. but this is the double edged sword. would probably be the starting qb for campbell next year and he will be sitting the bench at mooney instead. now my question is this can he transfer back and still play football next year if he chooses??? not really sure. and i agree with spread ursuline can compete in d3 all day...but i just think you wont see the same dominance in d3 like your obviously seeing now. year in and year out you will have some ups and downs like the public schools have. the public school cycle, catholic schools do not have this. and the way ursulines going no one is going to stop them for years to come.

another example of this(exact opposite) is Johnson-Coolionoius? or how you spell it.. isnt he from campbell?

So far their the 2nd best team I've seen this season. Don Bosco being #1.
  • reddevil90
No i dont think he can transfer and play. He would have to sit a year. But i could be wrong. We dont talk about Darrell Johnson in campbell.

With that being said, the school voucher system has hurt East and Chaney A LOT MORE than Boardman, Austintown-Fitch, etc. Almost ALL of the kids that live in the suburbs on the rosters of Ursuline or Mooney went to local Catholic grade schools. That is a fact, want proof, go look at their rosters and where they went to grade school.

You are correct teague and Thigpen i believe should both be chaney cowboys.

The offer is there buddy; if you want to hide behind your computer and spread lies like a ignorant fool, go right ahead, but I won't stand for it.

Look out everyone! This guy was a KICKER in high school! Be afraid, be VERY afraid! LOL

That proves my point. With the voucher system these kids are given a choice:
    a) Play at Chaney, a program that has reached new lows but may be turning it around slowly but surely under a Vivo. A school where violence plagues the hallways.... and I am not just saying that, the violence there is bad.

    b) Play at Ursuline, a team that has won three state championships since 2000 and well on their way to their 3rd straight state title. A school with a college prep education, heavy emphasis on discipline, and known for putting kids into college.

    The answer is clear folks.

Oh boy I am so scared of you! I was good enough to get into the Ursuline record books, be named Ursuline's special team player of the year, and get 2nd team all SVC. Rip on me all you want, but my senior class was a big part of getting Ursuline where it is today. Yes we lost to Maria Stein Marion Local, but we set a precedent to reach Canton/Massillon in Week 15 every year.

The main thing i agree with you is the fact of the violence i went to Chaney as a freshmen and That was when Brad Smith was still in school and it was bad then.

If you went to Chaney as a freshmen, does that mean you went somewhere else after that because you and your family thought it was in your best interest to attend another school?

Yes i went there because of a move from brookfield. After my 8th grade year and half of freshmen year i went back to brookfield. There were multiple fights everyday. Corruptions in the classroom which limited certain kids to excel. It was my best interest to get out.

You know not long ago the lottery was illegal and then we got it implemented and this is supposed to help our schools out. Why in the hell do we have such problems in city schools like you guys are saying about Youngstown. This is not Los Angelos . We dont have a flodd of illegals in our school system. We also need to legalise more gaming in Ohio like Trafficant wants to do for Youngstown . This will help the schools . It just iritates me to here kids got to fight there way in school . That is just junk . Dont vote them frigging right wing bible beaters in office for sure . they wont do sh#@ for the public school system

It's sad but year in and out in Chaney and East they just get worse.

ya derrell left campbell his senior year and that is the other side of the coin...i agree. had great success at mooney, but lets not think he just started getting looked at by osu n iowa his senior year. he was well on his way. the pj situation is a sad one though. derrell is not a campbell kid and never will be, his adopted parents live in campbell and used the address of their poland home to enroll derrell at mooney. since he was technically in ursulines "district" and it was his senior year. by the way the house was being built at the time in poland and is still not completed. just goes to show there are loopholes everywhere and this is just another example of another one. and lets not forget this one thing fellas...when derrell didnt play in the state championship and mooney was losing, the mooney student section started chanting "go back to campbell'!!!! so the bottomline is this they may want you but if you dont produce youll always just be another black, white trash, greasy greek punk from campbelll to them. you will not be known with the legacies and cliques that have been established at those schools...youll be the same trash to them after you leave like you were before you got there.

So, alot of you are saying that you want the whole system changed in Ohio to basically punish a handful of mid or lower level school for winning on a consistant basis?
    Am I reading this right?

What does that then do to the smaller parochial schools? You know, the ones who struggle with enrollment and can barely put a team together at D6?

Or is that a non-issue because your school doesn't play those itty bitty schools?

Or is it going to be a pick and choose thing?

Because my team is nothing anymore? LOL Ouch! You got me good Farva! (And as skank mentioned...Massillon isn't my team if that's who you are referring to). MY school is D2. We don't play Mooney or Ursuline, so I could give a rats ass what they do.

Has it ever occurred to you that I was just giving an explanation? Did I say there was anything wrong with it? Please, go back and show me where I have said anything negative about this 'parochial advantage'? No? You can't? I'm a believer of you gotta beat the best, to be the best. I will have to agree with you in that, also speaking of poland and campbell darius patton was enrolled at campbell for a total of three hours then his dad thought it was a mistake putting his kid in that school and took him straight to poland. Do you have any reasoning on why he enrolled and then left so quick knowing that you are from campbell you would have a better understanding of went down more then i would.

Throwing money at the situation won't help it because it isn't a money issue. It is a family issue (actually a lack of family issue). Many of the parents in Youngstown just don't care about school. It is sad for the ones that actually do. The state has created the voucher system to allow kids in failing schools districts a choice of a school that may be better for them. Open enrollment also gives kids a choice in where to attend. Chaney and East have turned into situations where it is very difficult to be productive in academics, sports, extra-curriculars, etc. Many kids are leaving the Youngstown school district for various reasons. Safety is a big issue for many students leaving the district. I'm not sure what the answer is to correct the problem. However, I don't think criticizing Ursuline, Mooney, or any other school that offers students a great education and a chance to participate in great extra-curriculars is the way to do it.

the darius situation was a mess...his father feels jaded because he hasnt been inducted into the hall of fame. and thats from the horses mouth. campbells hall of fame has a moral character clause, and some feel this applies to his father. so hes not in...and prob wont ever be in. besides the point, he was jaded and feels campbell turned their back on him...the son wanted to go to campbell badly, and for a minute there he was. but his father pulled the plug and had the final say...so he went to poland. he was never ours so its a moot point.

I wasn't aware he wanted to go to Campbell?
He wanted to go to Ursuline i believe?
  • soupcitysoldier
he wanted to go to campbell...i think his father didnt want him having the same temptations he did as a kid in campbell, so i know he was exploring all possibilities including mooney and ursuline. but in the end poland was the choice. kids a beast but not as good as his daddy.
