Orrville Football - 2010

RedRider1A Triway win at Orrville may be one of their biggest wins ever...can't let it happen.
So important for us to get off to a good start this year...can't stress it enough. Time to beat NW and get on an early roll. -
BRFNice updates on THE BLOG, RR1. You da bomb!........I have to see if the work place will release your site because it is a great educational and historical reference. Maybe Flash can help out with that.
-
FlashI'm keeping my head low. LOL

RedRider1
Was helping my wife get her classroom ready and tried to pull up my site...none of the images or scripts loaded but the text was there. Tried to find a Red Rider logo to use on her smartboard for open house, and couldn't even do a google image search.BRF;447786 wrote:Nice updates on THE BLOG, RR1. I guess i'm fine with it...probably have to be very cautious with what students (and teachers anymore) are able to access on school computers.
Got some more good blog stuff coming....hopefully by the weekend.
PS - here's the link...lots of stuff in this one.

Old RiderI heard directly from a "reliable source" of mine that the Red Riders will be unvailing some new red jerseys for our home opener. I have heard that they will be the fitted type that almost every school has except us, but will still be the same look. Any truth to this? 5knots maybe you know a little more!!!
-
RedRider1oldrider,
5knots and I have discussed this a few times....it is indeed true.
I believe a new white jersey will debut this year as well....has your source said that too?
Very simple...no major changes, just updated fabrics and a tighter fit.
Can't wait to see them...and hope to get a look at one to share on my blog before the season starts.
It's long overdue and I know both you and I have talked about this in the past and feel very strongly about it. Kids will look faster if nothing else.
PS - it's good to see you on here....hope you and the family are well. -
Old RiderThanks RR1! Yes the fam is good and I hope you and your family have enjoyed the summer!
I had not heard an official "yes" on the white jerseys, but I hope you are correct. Definately looooong overdue. If that is true, then we will see new whites at Northwest I am assuming? -
5knotsif they come in on time. Keep your finger's crossed.
-
RedRider1So you're saying we should hang on to our old ones....just in case?
Let's not forget where this uniform seed got planted.....http://www.redridersportsblog.com/2009/02/orrville-uniforms-long-awaited-sequel.html
Of course, someone else ponied up the dough....I'm just the Idea-guy. -
Old Rider....fingers and toes are crossed. What company was chosen to do the jerseys? just curious.
-
RedRider1Fairly certain is was Russell. That's who they've used for awhile now.
-
Old RiderQuestion: Do we have a kicker this year or will we be going for 2? and if so, who is it?
-
FlashPirman will punt and someone who the soccer team and football team will share but I can't remember his name(Dylan Tanner?).
-
RedRider1See everyone tomorrow at the scrimmage.
I posted this to my twitter...but thought it was impressive.
Tuslaw has almost 100 kids in their high school football program. 65 on Varsity and another 31 freshmen. That's terribly incredible for a D4 school....they're going to try and have 1 unit for offense and a completely different unit for defense.
How can they have 31 frosh and we not have enough for a team? I know their youth program is nice, but that's quite a disparity for 2 schools very similar in size. -
Coach 08Hey RedRider1 I understand what you are saying about Tuslaw, just curious if they have soccer? Also as for the freshmen from Orrville it sounds like they have kids playing golf and soccer so maybe that is taking away from the numbers, just a thought. But that is very impressive from the Tuslaw kids.
-
RedRider1Tuslaw has a soccer team...and a golf team. Just like Orrville.
I did some quick checking last night and all the way back in 1983, we had 38 kids on varsity....in 1992 it was 39...i think last year was in the mid 40's. So lower numbers arent a recent problem...but I dont think it's hurt us that bad. We always seem to have talented numbers. -
5knotsseasons of '76 '77 '78 we had numbers from low 30's to mid 30's. Fantastic teams. 26-2-2 those three years. Part Chippewa Conference and then All Ohio conf. I wonder every year if our "low" numbers will be an issue and I guess it all depends on who the low numbers are. If you have 6 Chase Hooblers and 5 Max Pirmans you might do pretty good with 11 on a squad!
-
Old RiderWe fielded a freshman team with 14 guys and played a 6 game schedule. I think the numbers fluctuate some year to year, but Orrville has always had mid to upper 30's on the varsity squad for as long as I can remember.
I think all the freshman will be dressing this year is that correct? What is the total number of freshman this year? -
RiderfanI'm anxious to see what Max can do this year. He's got all the tools. Will he be a game changer on defense the way Chase was last year?
-
5knotsOur "playmakers" returning from last year look fantastic so far. Brenner is coming into his frame and is so much stronger this year. Pirman looks great. Simpson has added 10-15 lbs and speed to go with it. Monheim...the same. Davis ....ditto. Cody Rice you could say the same.....my point is that it is very very obvious the off season has payed off. I am eager to see us strap it up against what should be a very good Minerva team tomorrow...10 am. come down and see for yourself.
-
FlashThere's only a few kids in the soccer program that would help football. This year Gage would have helped, but not too, many others.
-
RedRider1Starting DB's....Tre and Turner? Any chance of someone stepping in for Tre to give him a breather or to save him up for offense?
Now back in the day, my buddy "Bleed_rider_red" and I had a very heated but respectful discussion about Kyle Simmons playing both ways.....I'm sure Tre is up to it...and I know he had some a nagging ankle injury late last year, but he seemed to wear as the season went on.
Maybe it's one of those "luxuries we can't afford" situations.
Thoughts? I'm excited to hear he's stronger and faster. Been a fan of him since I first saw him as a soph. -
5knotsI think bigger stronger faster= more durable. Get there early tomorrow if you want to see the one's. I think the coaching staff will be eager to find out which of the younger guys can be counted on this year.....including the corners who can spell Tre and Turner. With the athletes we have sometimes you just need a guy that can give you a series or two early on, and as the season progresses they can help out more and more.

RedRider1Interesting comments from NW coach Vic Whiting at a Stark Co. coaches get-together last night.
I think that's part truth and part sandbagging. Imagine losing half our staff from one year to the next? But at the same time, I've met this guy....he wont ever let his kids believe they're not good enough...I guess as any good coach should do.Northwest has had it’s share of issues as well, with an uncertain future led to some staff turnover for Whiting. Now that he has his staff settled, Whiting said this season will bring quite a challenge on the football field.
“I lost half my staff,” Whiting said. “So I’ve had to replace a lot of coaches. We’re doing the best that we can and we’re fighting through it.”
“The NBC’s loaded this year,” Whiting added. “This’ll be our last year in the NBC. The kids don’t worry about that or the levy, they worry about the weight room. I don’t think anybody out works our kids and I guarantee you that they will work hard.” -
thePITmanI heard Turner got off to a good start to the season with a long end-around for a touchdown. How did the rest of the Minerva scrimmage go?
