Orrville Football - 2010

5knotsRiders got a passing grade for Saturday. Minerva was a good test for us. All in all I would say we are right where we need to be at this point. Things looked good, some things need improving, got some questions answered on some young guys, Got some questioned answered on some old guys as well. Both QBs id a nice job with the ones and the number 3 also with the twos. Pretty sure we came out injury free. Louisville Friday 7pm.
-
RedRider1nice turnout as well....maybe a couple hundred on the home side. Mo was there too for a little bit.
PS - roster count is 59. That's including 13 freshmen. So 46 from 10th through 12th grade. Those are good numbers for us. -
Old RiderI thought we looked good as well and it was a pleasant site watching the ball being kicked "thru" the up-rights. We all know the importance of special teams, especially that extra point/field goal. I was also impressed with what I saw from both qb's, just not the idea of trying to throw the ball deep so much. However, I think we have plenty of playmakers to do it when needed.
Defensively we got gashed a couple times with misdirection plays, but looked good overall.
Louisville will be another big test and we will see how we match up against a good program. -
RedRider1Always like the Louisville scrimmage...they are a good, physical team. A good test for us.
Here's a link to the progress on their field turf.....how cool is that.

Kicker is Dylan Tanner....and judging by his orange shoes, I'm guessing he's the soccer player that Flash spoke of. -
rrfanI thought a lot of things looked good as well on Saturday. I also see plenty of work to be done. I thought the buzz was good from the crowd. I saw some fellow chatter members but did not get to talk to anybody.
We look thin on the line. Staying healthy will be very important. Wooster boy looks much better in Red and White! Look forward to Friday to see another step taken by this team. -
rrfanAlso just a thought but by the end of the year the kicker may think of himself as a football player who plays soccer and not the other way around. Kicking game we all know is very important. Good point old rider.

RedRider1Here's an article on Northwest's quad scrimmage with Massillon, Perry and Lexington.

Sounds like they're going to spread it out and look for mismatches.....very Dover-esque. Our DB's and LB's are going to need to make plays...can't let them throw 7 yd passes all night. -

sounds a little like what Triway did to us last year. -
5knotsRight Now our two inside LBs and Outside LBs/DE whatever you want to call them are Monheim, Davis, Pirman and Rice. These four guys are put together as well or better then any High School kid we will face. They all ran sub 4.6 40's at the end of July in our combine and they will all Finish at the point of attack. It is the Speed and Strength out of this corp should help against teams who are heavy on the spread.....we should know.....if you cannot keep the LB's in tight with a decent running game then they can roam freely and pick their target! Ouch

OHSMoneyMacI have been reading up on this whole thread and thought I should join the Rider Nation since BRF is on here . One question I have is what happened to Gage Wyandt? Is he on the team this year? If so, what is his position? IMO sounds like we should be more reliable on the running game this year for the first 3 or 4 games untill whoever the QB is can settle in to the offense but I do know we have very talented wide outs in Dylan Lemon and Cody Rice. On the D side I feel we will be fine with Mason, Max, Cody, Dylan, and IMO if Wally Woods gets playing time, he will step up big this year as a CB.
-
RedRider1Gage is playing soccer from what I understand.
Lemon has a foot in a cast, so he wont be available for a while on either side of the ball. -
Coach 08I heard Gage has to sit out the first 2 or 3 games so b/c of that he was not going to play football.
-
BRFHey MoneyMac! I would say that Coach 08 has it right.

.
The field looks great, I almost wish we were @ your place this year. .......... Almost. -
OHSMoneyMacHowdy BRF remember me? haha The only reason I ask about Gage is that last season there was alot of talk about Gage starting at QB and I've read all these threads and nothings been said about him. Really hope the Riders can step up when it counts and make another strong playoff run this season!
-
BRF
Yes. Now the question is: do I miss you? Haha! We sure could have used GW (not Bush) this year.OHSMoneyMac;455264 wrote:Howdy BRF remember me? haha ! -
Old RiderThe only problem is I am not sure how much he would have been used. Kind of burnt some bridges I think.
-
FlashI think he's decided to get in shape for wrestling, where he can make a big impact.
-
Old RiderMax Pirman out 6-8 weeks with a broken foot from todays practice...ouch!
-
BRFOuch is right! Here we go!
-
Go RidersThis is a very unfortunate loss. Now is the time for somebody to step up and make a big impression. It has been 2 very tough seasons for Max he missed half of last year with the collar bone fracture and now this. He is an exceptionally great player and we will miss his contribution very much. I hope Max a speedy recovery!!
-
RedRider1Wow....always something before the season even starts. Another uphill battle for the Riders.
Say what you will about it only being 1 player, but I've heard talk of our lack of depth and ANY injury to ANY player would be a big one.
This is not only a senior, but a captain and D-1 commit and a big time weapon on both sides of the ball.
Dang. -
THE4RINGZI hope he heals quickly.
Was he hurt last season also? -
5knotsHeard that as well. That is a huge blow to our squad. bigger schools have a hard time understanding how losing one guy can effect 4-5 spots for us especially when that guy is a Big Ten DE having already committed to Indiana. It definitely puts us in a hole. Broke his collar bone first day of shoulder pads last year. We didn't get him until week 6 or 7. Get well soon Max!
-
thePITmanThat's a tough blow. When you lose someone of that caliber that will likely play both ways, it not only affects the position HE would have played, but everyone else's, too. People have to be switched around and put in places they're not used to, and so on. Good luck as you work around this setback. Good luck to Max in his recovery.
