Orrville Football - 2010

  • Riderfan
Was he hurt last season also?[/QUOTE]
Yes. Missed about half the year.
  • Flash
So who will the replacements be? At LB, Punter , TE?
  • CCRolly
Does this mean Genoa will be sending their JV's to play you guys in the playoffs again?
  • RedRider1
Talked to a family member...says he got an MRI and will consult with Doc Suppan. Wont know anything concrete until early next week...I guess there's a chance the recovery can be sped up (not sure how that would work...but i'm also no doctor).

The words "maybe" and "chance" don't fill me with confidence, but I'm sure it's Max and his family looking at all options.

seems like 2-4 weeks out at least...probably the best case scenario too. That puts us to the Lexington game. Worst case is 6-8 weeks.

    Ugh.

Got some better news for everyone today......check my blog or facebook page tonight before you go to bed.

For me and a few others...it might as well be Christmas morning.

RedRider keeping use all in suspense, maybe we have another big recruit, I mean transfer coming in that is 6'4 and plays QB!

Christmas in August? This better be good! Can I tear open the corner of the package and peak?
  • THE4RINGZ
After seeing Hiller's picture in the DR today is anyone else planning on watching the second half of tonight's Colt's game?
  • Old Rider

Check the good news I posted on the NW game thread. (I don't feel like typing it all out again on my "crackberry")

Missed the scrimmage. How did we look?

Rider staff kept both offense and defense very basic for obvious reasons if you saw who all was in attendance. No sense splatting your play book all over the field for Triway and NW to digest. We even had some personnel out of position trying a few different things. All good if IMO. No injuries, Both QBs did some good things. like every other High School team in a scrimmage.....always things to work on the next week. I am excited for the season to get underway. It sure would be a boost to start off with a win over a strong NW program. See you all there!

    This stinks....Colts waive Tim Hiller.

that is a bummer. Time will rebound. Hopefully a good chance someone picks him up? Too smart a guy to not take a chance.

The Ashland Arrows are the cream of the Ohio Cardinal Conference, according to the voters. The Arrows got six of eight first-place votes. Clear Fork and Orrville appear to be in a battle for second. Each got a first-place vote, but the Colts got 54 total points to 50 for the Red Raiders.

The Lexington Minutemen finished fourth with 43 points, followed by the Mansfield Senior Tygers, Wooster, Madison and West Holmes.

So says the Mansfield News Journal sports writers poll.

everything there makes sense except we are the Red Riders not the Red Raiders.

Bummer. When he didn't get to play in the first game, I sensed trouble. Then in the last game he was 1 for 5 passing, but had a 9 yard rush. I would hate to see his career be over.

    2010 season preview.

I'm really up in the air on this season. I like what I've seen, but a new QB and a real lack of depth could really have an impact. Gotta get off to a good start.
  • THE4RINGZ
That is too bad about Hiller, I thought since the Colts had rid themselves or Sorchey as a back up it gave Hiller a better opportunity, but I was wrong. At any rate, Hiller is a good kid and will make the most of his time with that organization and move on in with football or with another career and be successful.

The Big Ten Network aired one of IU's practices last weekend, I watched it just to get a chance to see Hoobler. I didn't see him, but they were talking alot how the coach at IU never plays freshmen. Guess I will have to tune in next season.
  • RedRider1
I would think most college coaches don't play freshmen unless a frosh is just too talented to ignore (i.e. Clarett or Pryor at OSU).

IU is deep at LB, but Chase will get his opportunity.

It has to be eye opening to go from Big Man on Campus to just another frosh. The payoff is not immediate....but the free education is still there.

I agree Red Rider1. Many questions will be answered in the next few weeks. Nobody likes having to break in a new QB. That being said I think 7 of our 10 opponents are doing the same thing. (Copley,Triway, Ashland return QB). We are as fast or faster than last year across the board which is saying a lot considering the speed on last year's team. Like every year we need some young guys to fill roles quickly. Frosh Sommers and Zook could help with that depth issue. If they are not ready for Friday Night Lights they are pretty close. Nice to have them in the shadows. Tre needs to dictate his own mood....not let the game get him down after a couple hard knocks or no gainers. He is way to good not to dominate a game, but when he hangs his head he is an average back at best. It is his decision. Play every play like it is your last!
  • RedRider1
Yep...should go for everyone. can't let one bad play or series affect the rest of the game. Kind of one of those "if he doesnt get it, he never will" type of things. He's got the talent to average 125-150 a game. I'd hope as the feature back and captain, motivation and attitude shouldn't be a problem.
  • Old Rider
Our depth scares me more than our lack of experience at QB. We are thin in most areas especially up front on both sides of the ball.

The Frosh may help out, but looking to the future, thats about all there is in that class as far as talent. The Ritchie boy has good hands and jumps well, but he needs to get taller, stronger and faster before he is ready IMO.

I want to see us run the ball 90% of the time. Let the QB break himself in with the short underneath passes and stay away from the homerun ball. It doesn't work and unfortunately most inexperienced QB's at the high school level try to make the most of every pass by trying to hit their opponent deep...with little success.

    RUN THE BALL!!!!
  • RedRider1
While we're here...I'm not a fan at all of that "wing-t" look with Mason coming in motion and receiving an inside handoff....play takes too long to develop.

I hope we were just showing it as a "head fake" for the NW coaches.

We have Tre and Mason...no reason you can run straight ahead in either the 'I' or a 2-back set.
