Infield getting the majority of the snaps with the one's....pads and full go Saturday will tell a lot about the team. which is true for every team.....You can sling the ball around in as many 7-7 as you want, but until you have some LB's charging at you we may not be getting the whole picture.

When is the Riders home scrimmage(s)?
  • 5knots
Home with Minerva on Saturday the 14th (usually starts10am) then home with Louisville onFriday the 20th 7pm I think.
  • RedRider1
^^Correct. The Louisville scrimmage would normally be at their place, but their field is getting turf and it wont be ready in time.

I'd assume Infield will be getting the "starter" tab...if only for him being a senior. I'm sure that will be up for grabs depending on his performance. I'd like to see the soph get all the JV snaps and work him in to varsity action when appropriate.

With the admitted question mark at QB..will there be any "wildcat" type of formations for Tre and Mason? You're going to have talent on the edge (Max, Drew, Turner, Rice)....but defenses have to have at least a healthy respect for the pass.

If not, you're going to get teams stacking the line daring us to pass over them.

Here's a link to a webcam of the Louisville stadium progress...looks like all the stone is spread and compacted...next step is turf, then rubber fill.

It's always fun going to the Orrville / Louisville scrimmage. However, it was not fun trying to find parking at Louisville. I can't imagine with the success they've had the last few years and the big games I'm sure they've hosted, how they've been able to find parking. Amazing! Sadly I won't be able to make the Louisville scrimmage this year, but maybe I'll choose the Orrville / Minerva scrimmage over Fairless / Dalton on Saturday morning. Haha!

RedRider1 I truly believe we have as talented a receiving corps as we have ever had....I realize that is saying a lot, but we have speed and size AND guys that leap off the turf....and some of that all in one. We are still Orrville and a green QB or not, you stack the line of scrimmage against us we will make you pay. the nice thing is, with the guys coming out of the backfield and the O-line it may not matter whether you put 8 guys in the box or not! We may still have success on the ground.
I agree with the talent and athleticism of Tre and Mason it affords us some interesting scenarios offensively. Gotta stay healthy though.

    ^^Yep.

Short passes to Max (rollouts) would seem to work anytime we want.

Having an experienced o-line and 2 capable backs will make acclimating a QB a little easier.

^ and then let the big guy turn on that 4.51 speed!

Alright, I have herd a lot about all the talent we have and I agree, but if you don't have the line you are sunk. So who is their? I have herd this is an area of concern not strength. I am truely asking becasue I don't know.

three and almost four starters return from last years O-line if you count Derek Graber as a repeater which you should given the amount of time he played filling in at center and guard throughout the year. Therefore the fifth guy may be Letomaki (junior) or possibly a senior transfer kid...big guy...we'll see when the hittin starts. On D-line we will platoon with groves, graber, reusser, and junior Trevor White. until some others step up these guys will be puling partial double duty...nothing new here. That's my best guess at the moment but we have a lot of practice for kids to prove themselves. To put the O line in perspective.....four of the five starters from the Lex game return and I think we did just fine against them (graber was the starting the center for Monheim who had a concussion).

Is the Senior transfer from Waynedale? We heard about someone from there, but never heard whether it was true? Have any of the freshman made an impact? The truly good freshman are in positions where we are strong. Will they help mostly on special teams and play reserves?

Spoke to a coach Sat. night....said that Infield is progressing nicely...making correct reads and showing improvement. Repetition is key right now, but so is game action....and he'll get a taste of that this Saturday.

He doesn't need to be great...just good enough to get our guys the ball in space and throw the occasional deep ball. Max, Drew and Turner are all guys who can outrun/out-jump anyone. You've also got Tre and Mason to help take some pressure off him.

I think he'll be just fine.

The last I heard Mullins from Waynedale was staying in Waynedale for his Senior season. Did he end up going to Orrville? He sure was a load on the defensive line.
  • RedRider1
^^Haven't heard that...but who knows. Once Turner became a Red Rider, we could shift all our "recruiting" efforts to pillage the other county schools.

Yes with the lack of suitable housing in places like Apple Creek, Smithville, and Creston your program should continue to be blessed with outside talent.

    Priceless.

My fault for starting this again. LOL

    Good luck this year Riders!

Any freshman playing up for the Riders??
  • Flash
Defense wise the freshman who have potential are at LB and won't be able to break into varsity unless there's an injury at that position. If one went to a DB position I'm not sure whether he might be able to help there. I'm guessing special teams if anywhere.

I think overall depth is an issue with this year's team....gotta stay healthy.

We are the same way. Some good starters at the different positions, but very little depth this season compared to last season. I guess that's the "luxury" of only being a DIV school. :( Good luck this season.

^^we both graduated a talent laden class.......I am sure both of us hoped some of that rubbed off on the younger guys. See you in September. We owe you you one. Been a sore subject at my house for a year now!
