Orrville Football - 2010
-
RedRider1Turner was 2nd in the 100 (by .01 seconds to JaMarkus Oneal)......won the long jump and 200.
Not bad for a sophomore.
Rolly,
McCreary is about the only Wooster coach that HASN'T resigned or been non-renewed in the last 5 years, right? Definately not the best environment right now....and that's too bad. The area sports landscape is always more interesting when Wooster is good. But they had a solid football and basketball season last year....it's frustrating when you see a kid pick "hated" Orrviller over the blue and gold.....but it's just 1 kid. I understand what you're saying though. -
5knotsLet's not forget it wasn't long ago the Generals put together a string of 4 or 5 in a row on us under the same coach. I am sure some motivating factors for the "new guy" are the fact that College Coaches have a hotline to the program right now.....we just had 2 players and a Coach in the Big 33.....had a former coach inducted into the Ohio Hall of Fame.....have a host of kids playing at the next level and another one (at least) on his way.....and have a state of the art training facility paid for by the community who supports its programs.

THE4RINGZIn Wooster I am not sure if the recent sub par performance has led to the apathy or the apathy has led to the recent sub par performance.
The team turns out good numbers, and has developed a strong youth league, recently when they get to HS it just flames out.
Are there too many sports to divide up the talent pool because we are seeing it across all sports? -
BRFIt's a thing called "x-box"!
-
thePITmanHaving just heard more today on the situation with the player reportedly going to Orrville from Wooster, I feel bad for those involved. I understand, now, that it's more than just wanting to play for a better program or a better team with more exposure to big-time colleges, if that was even part of it at all. Good luck to all involved!

riders1Anyone hear anything about talks of Dover, New Philly, Northwest, and maybe Shelby joining the OCC and going to 2 divisions in the league?
-
RedRider1^^No. That would really take some doing....how would that even work
OCC - East
Orrville
Wooster
West Holmes
Dover
NP
Northwest
OCC - West
Senior
Madison
Lex
Shelby
CF
Ash
Meh...i dont like it. So you'd play 5 games against the teams in your division...then what, 2 games against rotating teams in the other division? I think it waters down the conference. I'd rather call myself OCC champ, than OCC Western Division Champ.....that's just me though. -
BRFPlus, it would make it even more of a nightmare on here with talk about the OCC: Cardinal Division!
-
thePITman^^ Haha!

Right. I didn't see Hillard Davidson in either division I am confused. -
CCRollyWould Cloverleaf be a better fit?
-
THE4RINGZWhat would happen to Orrville playing Northwest in Week One like they have for the past several years? Would both teams want to kick off the season with a league game?
-
RedRider1I'd like Cloverleaf as a non-league opponent. Suburban League team, turf field, D-2....nice program.
And if NW joined the OCC, I'm sure we'd find a week 1 replacement. -
rrfanWow things have changed on here! I want to go on record as saying I am not a fan of the Saturday game. The game should be on Friday and there will still be plenty of people there on both sides. However, the Orrville fans will stay all the way to the end and not leave after the wooster band is done at halftime. Of course it sounds like the Wooster football players would rather play for Orrville anyways.

5knots7-7 tonight 5 pm Massillon Paul Brown Stadium. The teams I am sure of are Massillon, Massillon Perry and Louisville from what I have read on other threads? If that is it we will be competing against some of the better schools in the State tonight. Nothing like jumping right into the fire!
-
RedRider1Will we be using a throwing machine in this 7-on-7 or do we have a an actual QB...and if so, what's the young man's name?
Usually the one constant, the QB position is the one big question mark this season. -
FlashBrenner or Infield at QB. Did anyone go to the scrimmage? 5knots is connected, how did we do?
-
5knotsWe looked like we were breaking in a new QB. Infiield has some nice throws but also many not so nice...I would say Soph Lichti had about the same showing. Kind of what I expected really. On the bright side our athletes looked looked like they belonged there, which is comforting since we were the only school there not a D 1 or D 2. Max went down on a cheap shot from Cloverleaf with a bump on the knee on the second play and did not return which didn't help much. He said he will be fine, just a precaution to keep him out I think. Saw the big soph for Massillon from Oregon...throws a nice ball, kind of skinny right now, but he is 6'5". He will be a dandy. I know one kid for sure enjoyed himself, he got his share of licks in and was very prepared for the aggressive nature of Massillon 7-7 from his experience 2 years ago. All in all the kids got better form last night. Next on is Green HS on Monday at 6pm I think and the Friday Akron U.. usually starts late morning.

RedRider1Think we'll be leaning back on Tre and Mason to carry the offense until whoever the QB is can settle into the role. Will be interesting to see if we implement some creative play calling to take advantage of our strengths.
-
FlashHow are we using Turner (receiver)? Receivers would be Turner, Brenner,Pirman, Rice, and ?
-
RedRider1Kyle Zook, Kyle Kolleth are seniors who were listed as WR's on last years roster. Hedberg and LaReece Woods are 2 other names I see. No idea if any of the 4 would be starters.
If you have Mason and Tre in the backfield, that only leaves room for 3 WR's. Max, Drew and Rice with Turner probably splitting time too. -
5knotsTurner, Brenner, Rice, Pirman, Simpson, Monheim will be the backs/receivers on the field the most.. especially as the year starts out. Dillon Lemon did a nice job last year when inserted, he has great hands and will also lower the boom on you from that slot/wideout spot, he has hit the weight room and is filling out nicely. Another Junior Cody Weaver had some nice catches last night as well and has grown a couple inches since last year...he is also not one that will shy away from contact....nice to have kids like this to pop in on offense to do some blocking as well catching, that is what makes a run go from 10-15 yds to a home run.

RedRider1Question:
Who was the last Rider RB to have back to back 1,000 yd seasons. I know it hasn't been anytime recently. Does anyone know for sure?
EDIT: Mark Griggs did in 1976 and 1977. Anyone in between? Most of our dominant 80's teams had several talented RB's and/or a running QB which spread out the carries and the yards.
Anyone since Griggs? -
thePITmanOrrville will do just fine this year. The early pre-season comments had Rider fans worried about how they would make defenses honest with a passing game to compliment the running game. I don't think you'll have any problem finding receivers or a QB. Good luck this season, Riders.
-
FlashDrew Robinson? Did he have back to back seasons of 1,000 yds.
