I think SOMETHING needs to be done...if nothing else, just add an orange and white stripe....and start using pride stickers.1486wd wrote: I have always loved the all black helmets anyway. There's a cool old school look to it. When I was in jrhigh, we had three colors of helmets - white, orange and black. Some of the orange had stripes and some had bulldogs on the side - what a hodge-podge.
Bruteye - I haven't heard about any assistants but I would be very surprised if Doty continued to coach after not getting the job.
Look at us over here in Orrville...classic black too, but a neat stripe and skull stickers makes it so much nicer.
Congrats on the new hire. I was biased towards Easterling...but what can you do when there's a Tressel connection (from a member of the search committee and from a candidate). -
thePITmanCongratulations to Dalton on the finding of their new head coach! Very good article in the Daily Record today.

27wackodogNo disrespect to Orrville but we got the black helmets when Ramsey took over, (He was from Orrville) and We've had them ever since. Dalton old school would be orange helmet and pants. Tradition is in the school and the kids, don't be afraid to stir it up a little! No offense but we don't need to look like Orrville, You guys do it just fine.

dhs22pbleed_orange_and_black , check your pm's. Im very excited to see what he can do with this team. Hopefully the numbers go up!
-
1486wdoften a new coach can help get the numbers up, maybe get a few kids out that haven't been. The more I hear about this guy, the more I like their choice.

Some orange paw print pride stickers is all I ask. -
THE4RINGZGo really old school with the helmets. All black with each players number in orange on each side. Just like The Crimson Tide.

Have to agree with you on the pride stickers.
Maybe skull and cross-bones or Bulldogs. -
beverboy1I GUESS I'M NOT MOVING NOW GOOD LUCK COACH BILLKER AND WELCOME TO DALTON
-
mompovI'm sorry, but if one coach choice was all it took to make you think about moving maybe you should. Billker sounds like a great guy! Welcome to our mostly supportive but somewhat whiney burg.

Coach Billker is supposed to meet with the team Wednesday night.1486wd wrote: saw he was meeting people tonight at the high school - anyone there? -
1486wdcurious how the new coach was recieved wednesday. Has he made any decisions yet on staff possibilities?
-
bleed_orange_and_blackHe introduced himself to Jr High football players yesterday. Anybody know if Doty or Stutz are stayin' on?
-
1486wdi sure would be surprised if doty would stay on under the guy he lost to but who knows -- I would think stutz is much more likely, possibly one of the jr high coaches (or principal)??
When is he meeting with the high school? -
BruteyeI think Doty would like to stay on, but it is ultimately up to the new coach. As for Stutz, last I talked to him he thought he would be unable to coach at all in the fall due to college classes.
-
1486wdthat is interesting bruteye - I think it's a positive if he stays, I just didn't want him as head coach. Does anyone know if the jr high principal has any interest in assisting?
-
jiggleb4rumor has it that there are a lot of guys coming out that havent played in awhile...since jr high for example so daltons numbers shouldnt be as bad as last year as far as the '12 - '13 class some of these guys also werent terrible "back in the day" either
-
1486wdi hope that proves to be true - that is exactly what they need to have happen - schools like dalton just need bodies, especially for depth and to be able to not have all of your starters play all your special teams, etc.
-
1486wdDoty went up a lot in my book after I heard what he said to the players - sounded like a very classy talk. I didn't want him as the head coach, but I would be happy if he was on the staff. I assume Billker has met witht the team by now?
-
Bruteye
Any info on what was said? There's a few people on here who are obviously not fans of Doty and I think this might change some people's minds on the kind of guy he is. I have heard that he has changed for the positive over the past years and some peoples views on Doty as a person may be based more on how he used to act.1486wd wrote: Doty went up a lot in my book after I heard what he said to the players - sounded like a very classy talk. 1486wdfrom what i understand (this is third hand), he said although he was very disappointed about not getting the job, he still loves dalton football and always will. He wants to see it succeed and be involved in it. Or something to that effect. That would not be real easy to say after just losing out on a job. it would be very easy to be angry and negative. All signs are pointing to good things ahead in Bulldog country.
One of the things to watch next season will be what he has in mind offensively. Billker said he likes a 4-3 defense which I don't see any of these guys having trouble running. We have utilized running qb's for so long - a lot of coaches are not really that familiar with that but I think it is a very powerful weapon in small schools - sometimes you don't have great protection and you are getting your qb used to making something happen when nothing's there. I think he said he has run a lot of I formation in the past, something we have not used much of. I think Lint and Blevins would be very good running behind a fb and we have the personnel to do it well - I just don't want them to leave Gavin's legs out of the equation. -
BruteyeHonestly, I think it would be foolish to go away from the option at this point. It was by far our best play all season last year and everyone knew we were going to run it once every couple of downs. Especially since the personnel we have coming back (specifically Hackett, Lint and Blevins) had so much experience and success with that play. Once the seniors graduate we may not quite have the personnel to run it and then possibly go in a different direction. Also, we have run the option out of the I (along with numerous other formations) the past couple of years.
