Should the Cavs make a trade?

  • hoops23
If so, what do you think they need to add? A stretch 4? Another guard?

    Some names include --

    Antawn Jamison
    David West
    RIP Hamilton
    and a few others...

However, with the additions this team made in the offseason, adding Moon, Parker, and of course Shaq, plus, getting another year under their belt (I'm looking at you Mo) do you think it's a needed move to try and make a trade by the deadline to truly put this team over the top? Or, are you content with what they have and how they've fared against the top teams of the NBA?

I think we are fine, but if Ferry can pull a rabbit out of his hat, I wouldn't be upset.

You have to make a move.

They didn't last year because they felt fine about everything, but I have read that Ferry in retrospect realizes Wally's contract should have been moved and he should have cashed in a chip like that.

Same thing this year. Z's contract is that last time in the foreseeable future they will be able to really add anything to the team given the cap situation. Even with his and Shaq's deal coming off the books they won't have any room to maneuver, so now is the time while you essentially have a piece that can bring back a $12 million a year player.

Last year Ferry errored on the side of being cautious, this year it will be erroring on the side of making a move.

IMO if you can get a stretch 4, all while knowing Z will get bought out... Then you have t do it. If not, then no. I say that because I want Z to be a part of this. He deserves it!

This is via hoopshype and Chris minnix's Twitter: execs still believe Cleveland will use Wally's contract and maybe Z to get a big name. And that scares the crap out of everyone.

Is there any way that a sign and trade for Bosh could realistically happen?
  • Midstate01
I'm more curious if Amare is available. I haven't heard anything about him.
  • Benny The Jet
I cautiously say yes. As stated above, it has to be for the right pieces, and Z has to be brought back. I'd love to get Jamison for JJ and Z...but only if we get Z back. I'd feel horrible for Z if we let him go this season and we ended winning it all without him. He's been around forever, I can remember watching him on those Cavs teams back in the mid/late 90's where Vitaly Potapenko came off the bench for him.

Gotta get another guard with some playoff experience. I'd only go after a big if it doesn't include moving JJ.
  • wes_mantooth
yeah, I don't think they can win the whole thing without an upgrade at the 4 spot. Maybe Leon Powe will be enough, but who knows how he will be this year.

lol why is JJ untouchable? He does little to nothing when he plays and could be good trade bait
  • ytownfootball
I'm happy to stand pat, we may need another piece but won't know 100% until it's all over with. I think last seasons trades were more than sufficient to bolster holes that were more than evident. That said though, were a steal in the offing, I'd take it.

    Leave it alone.
  • KR1245
Pull the trigger. If Z gets traded he will be bought out and return to the Cavs in a month. This team needs another scoring option in the frontcourt. Jamison would be perfect

JJ was the GOAT against the Lakers.
  • Rotinaj
I still think Lebron needs to be traded..Im hoping maybe the Lakers will bite and trade Morrison for him...I doubt theyre that stupid though.
  • thedynasty1998
I don't get the love affair for Hickson either. I think he has some potential, but come playoff time, he's not the guy you want playing a lot of minutes.
  • jordo212000
You gotta love the "take my eyes but not my JJ Hickson" crowd.

I think the Cavs need to make a move though...
  • jpake1
I've never understood the Hickson love affair. He hasn't proven a single thing or ever made me think he's all-star talent in the future. But to each their own.
  • devil1197
JJ Hickson is a terrible defender considering rotations, cannot create his own shot, is as dumb as Gooden, and is overall soft at the moment. Will he be a good player in the future, maybe but he is gone if guys like Jamison are on the block. Cleveland cannot rely on JJ going into the playoffs and while Powe could be solid he is coming off is 3rd or 4th knee injury.

The way I see it is Cleveland is a very, very good team right now with some iffy injury and legal problems coming up. They are one of a few teams that have pieces that could be moved without hurting their core (Z buyout, Wally contract S/T, JJ Hickson etc).

If guys like Jamison are available for practically nothing then that is a NEED move imo.
  • jpake1
I agree. There's nothing wrong with getting better. One thing about a champion, they always feel the need to get better.
  • cat_lover
I wouldn't mind seeing them make a move.
  • devil1197
Exactly, Cleveland is in the exact same position as they were last year. Great record and they have the pieces to make some moves without hurting their main pieces. Ferry is going to learn from his decision to not pull the triggest last year with Wally.
  • hoops23
I'd make a move. However I'm not sure if it'd be for a stretch 4, unless it's Antawn Jamison.. I'd like to get another legit 2 guard, just because we still don't know what's going to happen to Delonte.

I think our frontline with Shaq/AV/JJ/Powe/Z (after buy out) is more than good enough to win a title..

But I do think you have to make at least one move for another guard.
  • SQ_Crazies
Of course they should if it makes us better. Why wouldn't you? Just have to be sure it makes us better.
  • devil1197
LTrain, I have a feeling that Ferry will try to work both positions into a trade tbh. Maybe a 3 team trade but I think he is definitely looking to get a PF and guard before the deadline.

Obviously Jamison is #1 on Ferry's list but I do agree that Cleveland needs to look for another guard. I think you'll see tonight why that is a need, Westbrook may own Gibson at the point tonight.
