Official 2010 Nascar thread: Season long discussions!!!!

He was a very talented driver with skills matched by few. I had met him before, but had a really nice chat with him at a racing legends dinner a couple years ago.
If Bobby is your favorite you might like this pic, 2 of my favorites.

I was a big fan of the "Alabama Gang" Bobby, Donny, Davey, and Neil Bonnet. The Havoline car was one of the sharpest looking cars in NASCAR. After Davey died I stayed with Ernie until he had his accident. I then became a Gordan fan. Thought maybe I was putting the hex on the 28. HAHA
Tim Richmond was another driver who was fun to watch.

So when does the new spoiler take effect? I'm glad they are finally addressing those ugly and useless wings...

April at Texas, not sure if its a total change or if they are phasing it back in at diff. tracks. There is an open test in March at Charlotte for spoilers.

So if the tests/races go well...would it be safe to say we can expect spoilers for the entire 2011 season?
  • Speedofsand
I don't think they decided yet, see how it goes March 23-24
ouch, this just in...Denny Hamlin tears ACL:
#11-Denny Hamlin, widely considered Jimmie Johnson's top threat in 2010, tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee [clutch foot] Friday playing pickup basketball. Hamlin said he still expects to compete, but surgery isn't an option at this time since the Sprint Cup season begins in two weeks. He plans to have surgery to repair the knee after the 2010 season. A team spokesman said the injury should not affect Hamlin's ability to drive the car. "I planted my foot to make a move toward the basket, and my knee just shot directly out to the left," Hamlin said. On Dec. 16, Hamlin had surgery on his right knee to repair the meniscus [also from basketball].

    WOW
I wonder if his next contract has a basketball clause?
This will have to hurt him the way these guys fit in the car so tightly.

    GoChiefs,
Maybe your boy Busch makes the chase now.HAHA

My boy Busch almost always makes the chase thank you. :D Finished 4th last year..so I'm not too worried about him making the chase this year. Lol Especially with his new/better Crew Chief.

As for the rule changes..I like them..mostly..except for the bigger restrictor plate...I mean..sure..more horsepower..more speed..but it's still going to keep them all bunched up. So it's not going to eliminate 'The Big One'. So now..you are going to have 'The Big One'..just at a faster speed. Doesn't make much sense to me when you talk about the most important thing to you is 'the safety of the drivers'.

I like the restrictor plate tracks because of how the drivers are bunched together. I love watching a line fly past another line. The fact that the leader can drop from 1st to 8th almost instantly makes the races so exciting...you never know who's going to win. Also, 'The Big One' is exciting too...lol
  • GoChiefs
Sure..who doesn't mind 'The Big One'. But what's the point in making the restrictor plates bigger?
  • KnightRyder
personally i really dont care for johnson and knaus. but really it doesnt seem that anyone has anything for them.

Here is an interesting tid bit.

In 1953, racecar driver Tim Flock of NASCAR raced with a monkey in the seat beside him.

    WHY????
  • GoChiefs
It was just a publicity stunt.

Jeff Gordon...the man. JJ the second coming. Jr...well, every sport has to have a yutz.
  • GoChiefs
As much as I hate both of them...gonna have to say Gordon is nowhere near the caliber of JJ. So..I guess you meant to say JJ..the man. :p

    I disagree.
Gordan would have 6 championships if they didn't go to the chase format. I think Gordan can be considered right up there with JJ.
  • GoChiefs
I'll put Gordon up there..in the Top 5..but he's not at Jimmie's level right now. Nobody is. Woulda, coulda, shoulda on the 6...that's the way it goes. Gotta win the way the format is now. Kurt would have 2 Championships had they made the chase format a year earlier than they did too.

    Two more weeks

What is a realistic time for Green flag to drop? And also a realistic end time for the race? I'm trying to figure out when I can reserve a table at a restaurant on Valentine's day. But I have priority, Nascar is trying to come first.
  • Speedofsand
green flag at 1:25 (approx). Checkered flag about 5 - 5:30.
  • GoChiefs
Last years race was just a little under 3 hours long.
  • Speedofsand
    and 120 miles short
