2017 Browns Off-Season Thread

Glad there was no drama with the signing. I know it's harder lately for holdouts with the new deals, but I didn't want a Bosa situation

The Browns also signed Miles Garrett to his rookie deal.

I believe the Chargers FO is the worst in the NFL.

    I believe you are correct.

I like a lot of what the Browns front office is doing but I'm not a fan of the addition of former Colts GM Ryan Grigson. I doubt he'll get a major say in personnel decisions but that guy is terrible.

Yeah, I think he's a HUGE part of the reason Indy has been stuck in mediocrity despite having a really good QB.

He's freaking terrible. The model in Indy, it seems like, for years has been to stock up on flashy weapons for the QB and neglect the defense. Their defensive model has been to add light in the pants edge rushers to get after the QB because they know their defense is so bad that they will have to win shootouts. They've taken two good QB's in Manning (HOFer) and Luck (good, but don't think he's as great as others do) and assumed they'd win with little around them.

That whole division just seems soft. Guess I'm used to watching "punch you in the mouth" AFC North football for too long.

Browns extended Christian Kirksey (4 yr/ $38 mill ($20m guaranteed).

Also sounds like Kizer is picking things up pretty quickly and they may try to fast track him.

Browns trade Demario Davis to the Jets for DB Calvin Pryor (a bum for a bum).

In old(er) news, it sounds like Corey Coleman could be out for awhile with an injury. Laid out for a catch and landed on the ball. Heard the impact was so hard that the ball deflated.

    Guy can't stay healthy.

Not good for someone with such high hopes.

Yeah, and he's projected to be their #1. Meanwhile (and Terrelle Pryor can gfh) Kirk Cousins is raving about all of the possibilities with Pryor as his target. I guess they've been working out quite a bit together.

Everyone is rosy this time of year, DGAF what Cousins is saying.

As for Coleman, sounds like they're being extra cautious, and he'll be ready for camp. I'm not concerned there...yet.

On the Calvin Pryor pick up, low risk type of move, I'm for it. Allows us some insurance if Peppers sucks or isn't ready, we have a lot of bodies at SS now, would love to get a FS involved.

Wasn't Davis projected as starting ILB?

He was last year. The addition of Jamie Collins made him expendable. They have Collins & Kirksey, which is pretty damn good, manning the middle.

Gregg Williams has historically (I believe) run 4-3's so who knows what this defense will look like? Could be some kind of hybrid with their personnel.

Some quotes from yesterday's OTA's. Sounds like Crowell is anticipating a big year....

Similar to what BR said, he wouldn't have started in the Williams version of our defense.

Correct, Browns are projected to be in nickel 70% of the time this season, which means his playing time is limited barring an injury.

Mike Rodak‏Verified account @mikerodak 8h8 hours ago In addition to trips to Buffalo and likely Baltimore, Browns and Eagles have expressed some interest in Jeremy Maclin, per @AdamSchefter.

Anywhere but Baltimore, unless he sucks, which I think is possible.

It appears the Jets hate to have any veteran over 30 on the team. I believe it was money that caused the release, not ability.

Either the Browns are trying to create trade buzz or Osweiler is knocking it out of the park because it sounds like he could be the #1 going into training camp.

Or he is better than Kessler and Kiser is a rookie. Change of environment and not under pressure here from that huge contract.

He has the physical tools one would want in a QB. Who knows, maybe he's got a chip on his shoulder with all of the "Osweiler sucks! He can't play in this league" stuff?

That's because he does suck and has no business being a starting QB in the NFL.

I think we all followed the Browns long enough to take every report from from February up until the first preseason game with a grain of salt. If a fraction of all these "(insert player) looks great" reports the last 10+ years actually transitioned to Sunday success then we wouldn't be discussing the Browns 7th (?) "rebuild."

Bill Polian on Mike & Mike just now said that it's "dangerous" for the league what the browns did last year with intentionally tanking.

Am I missing something here? The Browns just didn't have any talent. They didn't tank on the field lol they just sucked.

Now you could argue the FO tanked the season, but hasn't there been a 0-2 loss team in almost every NFL season? That wasn't the first ever 1-15 NFL season.

I swear, I don't think I've ever agreed with bill polian

Dangerous in what sense? Also, that team had many chances to win more than 1 game and they completely blew it. There was no tanking on purpose to lose those games if anyone watched them.
