The offseason begins... Tribe Hot Stove 2016-2017

Well I'm not "low" on Chisenhall.... I thought he made some steady improvement from last year. At worst he's a very good platoon player. Most certainly there is room for an upgrade there, but I wouldn't be looking to move him.

The Tribe has until Monday to to make Napoli and Davis qualifying offers.... That offer would be $17.2 million. If the team were to make the offer(s), The players have until Nov 14 to accept or decline the offer .... If they decline and are signed away by another team the Tribe would get a supplemental pick at the end of the first round of the 2017 draft .
Antoinetti and Chernoff would love to have Napoli and Davis back... But probably not at that price .
Antonetti's comment was, "we are working through it."

I really liked what Napoli brought to this team...on the field (don't forget he plays excellent defense) and in the clubhouse. However, I have to imagine the two sides plans are different. Napoli is probably looking at his last contract and for somebody to give him 3 years and 45-50 million. The Tribe won't (and shouldn't) do that. He won't want to take another 1 year deal because the odds of him matching his production this year...are slim.

We have a lot of options to work this team. We can sign a 3rd basemen and move Ramirez permanently to LF and move Brantley to 1st/DH. However, I prefer JRam at 3rd but his versatility gives the club flexibility.

Lonnie made huge strides this year. As stated, .286 is nothing to sneeze at. The playoffs are such a small sample to judge players. I'll save this for spring predictions but I'm going to call for a breakout year for Lonnie next season.

I agree with wanting Rajai back but obviously for nothing close to 17M.

Matt Holliday is an intriguing name and is the type of guy the Tribe would try. He'll be 37 in January. 2015 he played 73 games and hit 4 HRs. Last year, he played 110 and hit 20 and knocked in 62. From 05-14, he was pretty much a safe bet for 90+ RBIs. He played some 1st base this year for the 1st time in his career- 10 games. Maybe letting him DH most of the time takes some stress off him and could keep him healthy and fresh. I wouldn't bank on him for the 100 RBI to replace Napoli but if he's healthy for 130 games I think 75-90 is do-able for him at 37.

Tribe will probably offer Napoli and not Davis.

Napoli's postseason woes are worrisome to me. I was a bit shocked at how bad he was.

Definitely no on Coco at that $$$

Tribe schedule 2017....They open away at Texas and Arizona. Home opener is Tuesday, April 11th against the ChiSox (3 game series) followed by a 3 gamer against the Kitties.

They finish with the last two series at home against the Twins and White Sox.

Tribe did not extend qualifying offers to any of their 3 potential free agents.

The fact they didn't give one to Napoli makes me believe they are looking at other options

    Nap is not worth 17M.

He's not worth even $5M at this point. I'd cut him.

Yea the qualifying options really don't mean anything. It just means you can renegotiate new contracts but it isn't exclusive anymore. Both players would have been paid too much. Crisp is the only one they have said they are moving on from for sure.

Rodriguez is a year and Bradley is at least two years away. Short term 1B until one of them "arrives", I'm thinking Pearce for 2 years 22M.

There are a few out there.

Mitch Moreland and Adam Lind are young enough to offer a 2 year deal to. Both guys had off seasons last year so they might be had cheap....which we know is always the tribe's MO.

Both bat left, they need something from the right side.

    ^^^ in a perfect world.
not a lot of 1Bmen hit right..... Kendrys Morales is a switch hitter, Mark Trumbo bats right. I think they are too rich for the Tribe.
Nap made $10 million with all his incentives met. The Tribe is probably looking to slot someone in that range.

I'd still love to try and get Goldy from Arizona. Would be a perfect fit

No shit, northern teams without a dome should start down south. A week can make a helluva difference, and then ya have the Reds get all butthurt. Isnt quite a bad in cincy though as Cleveland...

Lindor with the gold glove!! He's 23 (in a week) and we have him until 2021...

Good for Lindor and it is nice to have him under contract until 2021.

    Go Tribe.
  • TBone14
    Good for Frankie.

Hearing that the Tribe is interested in Ian Desmond. That would be a very nice pickup.
  • HitsRus
^^^Sure, who wouldn't be? But no way in hell. About all the Tribe "interest" does here is drive his value up. 20+ HRS and stolen bases and a WAR of 2.7.... the bidding to get this guy is going to start north of $20 million+/ 4 years and won't end up anywhere near that.
