No news. I know he hasn't spoken to another team, so no clue what the hold up is.wildcats20;1806457 wrote:What's up with JR and Bron's contracts talks? Obviously Bron is re-signing, but any news on JR? -
sleeperBoth will re-sign. JR will get $15M a year for 3 years, Lebron gets the max for a 1+1 player option.
No progress has been made because JR was on vacation/had a wedding; Lebron has been on vacation since the parade. -
Commander of AwesomeCavs open season at home against the Knicks and will receive championship trophy in front of Noah. LOL

There honestly isn't a number. You could pay him $100 mil a year and it might not be enough.Ironman92;1806837 wrote:Worth $50 million a year -

ironman02What's the latest on JR's contract negotiations?
-
sleeperI'm very surprised Lebron took a 2+1 max deal considering the mega contract he could have signed next year at 5 years ~$205M. It's not the best strategy for maximizing salary and you can't really argue he is trying to save DG money. It also doesn't make sense from a year length since the core doesn't won't be able to expire until the 3rd year of this deal(his player option).
So that leaves me with 2 guesses on why he signed the 2+1 deal:
1) He believes the new CBA won't be as favorable to the players and is hedging against a poor outcome. This would keep him under contract for up to 2 years after the negotiation instead of having him be a free agent or only have 1 year left on the deal.
2) He's lining up to play with Wade, CP3, and Melo after the 2018 season since they all have the opportunity to be free agents that year.
I'll add an option after reading more about it and its probably more likely: 3) Lebron earns more money per year with a 2+1 than a 1+1 and allows him to sign a 4 year max deal after the 2018 season(players who will be older than 36 in a contract cannot sign a 5 year deal under the current CBA). -

There's no latest. JR just got married and is on his honeymoon. He wants to sign with the Cavs and the Cavs want to bring him back. He will be back.ironman02;1806999 wrote:What's the latest on JR's contract negotiations? -
sleeperAlso Lebron is very difficult to value. He's worth substantially more than the current CBA can pay him; that's the obvious part.
I'd say he's worth about double the current max contract, so about $60M a year is where I'd put him right now. -
Commander of AwesomeAccording to Brian Windhorst, the Cavs weren't expecting LBJ to sign a 3 yr deal, and by him doing so costs Gilbert an extra ~$10-$20 M. lol

I don't think DG really cares. The Cavs are profitable even with the amount of money they've been dumping on the players and the championship more than justified any additional spending to keep the team together.Commander of Awesome;1807013 wrote:According to Brian Windhorst, the Cavs weren't expecting LBJ to sign a 3 yr deal, and by him doing so costs Gilbert an extra ~$10-$20 M. lol
