Week 3: Raiders @ Browns

I get what you are saying but those qb's were also ready from day 1 to start where Johnny isn't. He's more of a project. That's the difference. I'm ok with being patient with him and not just throw him out there. He's young and just went through rehab and such. He's not mentally there like those other qb's are at this point. That's the differenceHitsRus;1752754 wrote:Vikes committed to Bridgewater, Raiders to Carr... Now those guys have a year under their belt... Bucs are starting Winston... Titans starting Mariota.
You draft a QB in the first round, you better play the guy unless you have an established QB and are contending for a deep playoff run. But the Browns know better than everyone else....that's why we have a QB and coaching carrousel, squander draft picks year after year, and made the playoffs once in 15 years of futility.
we are going to start the QB who gives us the best chance to win THIS WEEK...not necessarily what's good for the future....and nothing ever changes.

And the fact that we saw a "glimpse" of what could be makes me a little (who's kidding, a lot) impatient to see more of him but if sitting and learning is going to make him a much better QB, "hold the clipboard, son!"Crimson streak;1752757 wrote:I get what you are saying but those qb's were also ready from day 1 to start where Johnny isn't. Agreed. I want to see him play just as much as everyone. He has the tools to be successful. He's shown glimpse of being a big play maker but you can tell he's just not there yet. Keeo bringing him along and I can put money in it he will be the starter at the end of the season as long as he continues to progress. Unless mccown is playing lights out.BR1986FB;1752758 wrote:And the fact that we saw a "glimpse" of what could be makes me a little (who's kidding, a lot) impatient to see more of him but if sitting and learning is going to make him a much better QB, "hold the clipboard, son!"

And the thing about it, in my eyes, is that he didn't play particularly "well" but the thing he and Benjamin did was "make plays." This team is STARVING for playmakers and if JFF can clean up some of the ugliness (fumbles) and make plays, they might have something.Crimson streak;1752759 wrote:Agreed. Dare to dream but what if JFF had Benjamin AND Butthole (Josh) Gordon running around on the field? -
IggyPride00Eric Mangini blushes at the size of the hard-on Mike Pettine gets over washed up aging vets.
Tells you all you need to know about how long his tenure here will be.
In a short sighted attempt to save his job he basically sabatoged all hope of keeping it long term.
This idea that Johnny or any QB is going to sit and sit and just walk in without having to go through some growing pains is wishful thinking.
We are stagnating for no reason, when we should just be playing him like every other team that drafts a #1 QB and let him take his lumps and grow from it.
We are the only team that sits their #1 pick behind full blown journeymen QB's, and then gives them no weapons to try and put them in the best position to succeed.
I am of the mind that we should stop drafting QB's in the 1st round because it is a waste of a pick. We don't play them, we don't ever go all in on them to put talent around them. It's a freaking joke.
If Pettine was even half as smart as he thinks he is Belichek would be his bitch he'd be that dominant. The guy is so detached from reality in his quest to win 7 games that I don't even know how to go forward. Saddly for us his father is the only one in that family with any talent, and he's not the one coaching the team. -

In my terms this is like letting Skip Schumaker start because he went 2/4 and 3 young guys riding bench behind him.Commander of Awesome;1752647 wrote:Drove right down the field to a soul crushing TO.
He's an aging vet with diminishing skills (if he ever had any), with a high propensity to turn the ball over. He confirmed 2 weeks ago what he's done his other 13 seasons in the league.
JFF orchestrated 3 TD drives. He is young. This team isn't making the playoffs. We have to know what he can do, and if he can be the guy before moving forward as a franchise.
What about this is hard S&L? You want to be a team guy, I get it. Nobody likes a QQ machine (Iqqy, FW, BR) but call the kettle black man.
Makes no sense to play McCown unless they believe he can lead them to the playoffs and they believe Johnny can't. On S&L's side is they are only 2 games in and who knows.
To me they both seem they put it on their shoulders and scamper too much. Browns need a QB to manage not have a couple nice runs but also a turnover or so each game because of that same style. -

Well said. People bitch and moan about Manziel's mistakes, but can't bring themselves to say one nice thing that he did Sunday. This just in Johnny bashers, rookie quarterbacks make mistakes. Second year quarterbacks make mistakes. The Browns, like you say here are content with kicking the can down the road, Mike Pettine should be fired. He is a shit coach in my view.HitsRus;1752754 wrote:Vikes committed to Bridgewater, Raiders to Carr... Now those guys have a year under their belt... Bucs are starting Winston... Weeden and Quinn played a ton of games....That's what it takes to find out. Neither Weeden not Quinn put on that type of display in game 3. When's the last time a Browns quarterback dropped 2 bombs right on the numbers like that? Not since they came back into the league.KnightRyder;1752772 wrote:i remember hearing all this about Brady Quinn and Brandon Weeden -

I don't have a "side" just to clarify. I don't think either of our qbs are worth a damn. Just trying to justify pettine's decision.Ironman92;1752768 wrote:In my terms this is like letting Skip Schumaker start because he went 2/4 and 3 young guys riding bench behind him.

Weeden 26/37 322 yards 2 TD 0 INT 114.9 rating

IggyPride00We are back to dead last in the league in rush defense.
Take a bow Ray and Mike.
4 1st round picks in the past 2 years and 3 of them will see their asses stapled to the bench this week while the other is just wildly ineffective.
Johnny is the only one that has done anything productive and his reward was a return to the bench in favor of the 36 year old journeyman.
When Mike and Ray are unemployed next year they will need look no further than the biggest bounty of wasted draft picks in the history of the NFL. -

Look, I'll admit I've been a "Negative Nelly/Debbie Downer" and it's mostly due to this never ending QB purgatory but I don't think I've EVER seen him post something positive about the Browns unless it's Johnny related. The only thing I agree with him on is Farmer. I won't lose any sleep if that dude is shown the door after this season.SportsAndLady;1752815 wrote:Iggy's got some screws loose, that's for sure. -

To further your point of him never being positive, Ohio State just won the national championship, and in their first game this year they were at one point up by 4 tds on Va Tech, and he posted something like "shame on Ohio State for this easy schedule, they won't have a tough game until Michigan State at the end of the season."BR1986FB;1752819 wrote:Look, I'll admit I've been a "Negative Nelly/Debbie Downer" and it's mostly due to this never ending QB purgatory but I don't think I've EVER seen him post something positive about the Browns unless it's Johnny related. He's just never happy. And it's a complete troll job. -

Unfortunately, with the quest for "perfection", regarding the Buckeyes, I was scratching my head about some people bitching about the shutout over Hawaii. They may not have looked great but it was a 'W." Same thing with last week. Yeah, they may have looked like crap but if they keep improving, and run the table, nobody is going to remember an early season "close call."SportsAndLady;1752821 wrote:To further your point of him never being positive, Ohio State just won the national championship, and in their first game this year they were at one point up by 4 tds on Va Tech, and he posted something like "shame on Ohio State for this easy schedule, they won't have a tough game until Michigan State at the end of the season."

But to comment on your point, it's so over the top it's ridiculous. -

If you could only combine farmer's ability to pick up undrafted players (he seems to find some nice pieces. Meder looks like to be another good undrafated pickup) with another gm's ability to only hit in the first 2 rounds, we would have the best GM ever lol.BR1986FB;1752819 wrote:Look, I'll admit I've been a "Negative Nelly/Debbie Downer" and it's mostly due to this never ending QB purgatory but I don't think I've EVER seen him post something positive about the Browns unless it's Johnny related. Or somehow he wanted to kill himself over Federer being in the finals of the US Open. It's definitely a troll job. I think at first it started as legitimate negativity, but I think we enabled him when we eventually would bite and just tell him to STFU. Once he realized we were tired of his shit, he just ramped up his negativity and turned it into a troll job. I will admit, as far as trolls go, he probably was one of the more effective trolls this forum has seen, however we all finally caught on, thus he just gets the boot in every thread.SportsAndLady;1752821 wrote:To further your point of him never being positive, Ohio State just won the national championship, and in their first game this year they were at one point up by 4 tds on Va Tech, and he posted something like "shame on Ohio State for this easy schedule, they won't have a tough game until Michigan State at the end of the season."

I think he's exceptional at finding those "hidden gem" UDFA's but dammit, dude....you got to hit on those 1st rounder's. I can't complain about Bitonio because he's probably the highlight of last year's draft class.like_that;1752828 wrote:If you could only combine farmer's ability to pick up undrafted players (he seems to find some nice pieces. Weeden and Quinn did play a ton of games, but it was evident they couldnt play a lick from day one. the longer the browns continued to find out if they could play or not it put the franchise further and further behind. i remember derek anderson throwing some deep balls right on the numbers but braylon edwards kept dropping them.Footwedge;1752773 wrote:Weeden and Quinn played a ton of games....That's what it takes to find out.
