Optical illusion...they just look huge attached to his tiny pipe cleaner arms.

Rumor is that McCown will start Sunday.

I don't think pettine wanted to take any chance to give the Titans a chance to get back in the game with any turnovers. The defense was playing great and Andy Lee is a pretty damn good punter. It was a very conservative game in the 2nd half.

Edit: Very conservative other than the TD pass to Benjamin.
The offense is still a concern. We're not going to get 50+ td bombs every week. Starts with the oline, Alex Mack is playing like shit.

I like Pettine, but this is the first day I am going to call him a dumbass. How is it clear to us that starting a 36 year old journeyman QB is not going to help the franchise in the long run, but it isn't clear to him? Fucking dumb.

Yeah, I do not get this one....

This. Another head scratcher by petite. Tired of him playing penis flickers with the start/inactive list.

McCown didn't look bad against the Jets, he was at least moving the ball for a quarter.

I'd rather manziel start since he's young and I want to see what he is. But pettine needs 8 wins this year or he's gone and probably doesn't want to risk manziel blowing and being 3-13 (even though this would probably be best for the fans).

Manziel looked horrible against the jets and was just 8/15 and fumbled twice against the Titans.

I'll give McCown a game and see what he can do before I call for pettine's head and manziel starting.

McCown will be on a very short leash. Maybe a stupid INT with a few incomplete passes, he's benched.
  • Azubuike24
Thing is, Browns will be underdogs in every game until week 12 or 14. Say you beat Oakland with McCown being average...it creates a fool's gold scenario going into much tougher games.

Except McFailwn has proven nothing in his career but ineptitude. He's a bum, been a bum, gonna be a bum. I'm sick of the "well petite seems him in practice/knows more" arguments. Bottom line, he has some head scratching personnel decisions and this one I'm fairly confident will bite him in the ass. Maybe not against the raiders (they're not a great team either) but it def will down the line.

There is a disconnect between Pettine (win now) vs. FO (build a franchise). With the way we go through coaches, he probably thinks he HAS to win now to save his job.

    I wanted Manziel.

Drove right down the field against the tough jets D. I'm willing to give him a game against the raiders before I fully write him off.

Drove right down the field to a soul crushing TO.

He's an aging vet with diminishing skills (if he ever had any), with a high propensity to turn the ball over. He confirmed 2 weeks ago what he's done his other 13 seasons in the league.

JFF orchestrated 3 TD drives. He is young. This team isn't making the playoffs. We have to know what he can do, and if he can be the guy before moving forward as a franchise.

What about this is hard S&L? You want to be a team guy, I get it. Nobody likes a QQ machine (Iqqy, FW, BR) but call the kettle black man.
  • MontyBrunswick
mccown is going to lead the browns to a victory this week. mark my words........

Which is EXACTLY what you're doing about McCown so STFU, Rainbow Brite. At least S&L is trying to show SOME positivity about McCown, even if he does suck.
  • Mulva
I still naively think we'll get a W, but losing with McCown looking terrible and having everyone turn on Pettine seems like more of a Browns scenario.

Dude what the fuck are you talking about lol

I'm not a McCown buttmuncher, I was the one that gave him the nickname McClown.

I'm just saying he looked fine in his one quarter and lets just see what he can do. YES I KNOW HE WAS GARBAGE FOR 13 YEARS YOU DONT HAVE TO TELL ME AGAIN.

I just don't see the point in starting him, if you actually want to help the franchise out. It is such a shortsighted decision imo. How are you going to see what JFF has and how do you expect him to improve if he keeps holding a clipboard for a shitty QB? He needs more snaps to get a feel for the game. How does a mediocre 36 year old journeyman QB improve the chances of this franchise finally figuring out the most elusive position?

What don't you get here and why does this come as a surprise? Pettine is about as conservative as you're going to find in a coach. When Hoyer was pissing down his leg last year and people were screaming for Manziel, he stuck by the veteran until he almost absolutely had no excuse not to play Manziel. He said that McCown was his starter and they planned to bring along JFF "slowly." He's not waivering on that.

I've said this before that, in a perfect world, JFF is your starter so you can evaluate him and see if he has something going forward. I don't think Pettine's in the "evaluating" business. I think he's in the "get as many wins as you can now for job security" business, knowing Haslam's hair trigger history.

Yeah, you, me and just about EVERY other Browns fan thinks it would be smart to play JFF to evaluate him for the "long term" but Pettine is probably much more concerned about the here and now. Regardless of what Haslam says and how easy last years schedule was, if they go from 7-9 to 3-13 with Manziel, his head is probably going to roll.

They're trying to figure out if McCown can lead them to 8+ wins. That probably won't happen but they're trying.

I personally would go with manziel but I can at least see what they're thinking. They need to win 8 games or they're toast.
