Same logic was used for Garcia, weeded, mccown, McCoy, Anderson, delhomme, dilfer, quinn, etc....DeyDurkie5;1741191 wrote:And they have the pieces to run the ball. Mccown knows he has to be a game manager. They aren't expecting him to be Tom Brady.

Lol yeah we drafted quinn and weeden in the first round to be a game manager.Commander of Awesome;1741193 wrote:Same logic was used for Garcia, weeded, mccown, McCoy, Anderson, delhomme, dilfer, quinn, etc....

No dumbass, that was the fail logic used for why weeden/quinn/McCoy wouldn't torpedo our team their rookie yr. The game manager cop out doesn't work. Same fail logic was used for dilfer, delhomme, Wallace, etc...Use your head and not bspn talking points.DeyDurkie5;1741194 wrote:Lol yeah we drafted quinn and weeden in the first round to be a game manager. -

I haven't watched ESPN in prob 8 years. So you are wrong there. Mccown knows the offense is going to be based around the zone blocking scheme and the run game. I'm sure they will utilize the pass but it will mostly be run the ball, take care of the ball, take random shots deep. I don't know what "fail logic" you are talking about but I didn't put the game manager label on the rest of your list. "Hey guys Seneca Wallace is going to be our game managing qb and the playoffs will happen!!"Commander of Awesome;1741196 wrote:No dumbass, that was the fail logic used for why weeden/quinn/McCoy wouldn't torpedo our team their rookie yr. Once again, you are wrong on all accounts. Now get back to your mocha Carmel latte and fuck off. -
Crimson streakThose guys all failed bc we had a shitty defense, a shitty o line and couldn't run the ball. Those teams were just plain shitty. Now we have a top 5 defense arguably a top 2 offensive line. A lot better players around mccown than we had before. Mccown just needs to be average that's it. And the Browns will win quite a few games

Bringing up Jeff Garcia and jake delhomme might be the dumbest thing I've heard coa say on here. Two totally different eras of the Browns. -

I would take those two and their careers over mccown any day of the week.DeyDurkie5;1741203 wrote:Stop watching ESPN Crimson and think for yourself, dumbass!!

The past teams, the QB didn't know the game was predicated around running the ball, and playing defense? McCown knows this? You know this how? Your entire argument is based on bs gut feelings.DeyDurkie5;1741200 wrote:I haven't watched ESPN in prob 8 years. So you are wrong there. Top 5 Defense? With zero pass rush and no proven ability to stop the run? That's not money I'm willing to bet. I think they'll be good, but not sure about top 5.Crimson streak;1741202 wrote:Those guys all failed bc we had a shitty defense, a shitty o line and couldn't run the ball. As for better supporting casts, Delhomme had shit around him no doubt. Dilfer's cast wasn't terrible though. He had Leon, Antonio Bryant, and Northcutt to throw to, with Droughn's 1300 yd season with Lee Suggs, and William Green behind him. That's not terrible. He just sucked, like McCown. -

This, both were at least pro bowlers before coming here.like_that;1741209 wrote:I would take those two and their careers over mccown any day of the week.
On a more depressing note, just realized that Houston was selected in the 3rd round with the pick the Browns gave up to move up to select Phil Taylor. Thanks Mangini! -

Was that their game plan back when they were on the team? Or are you just pulling shit out of your ass?Commander of Awesome;1741211 wrote:The past teams, the QB didn't know the game was predicated around running the ball, and playing defense? That's great. At the time of their time with the Browns, our team was shit. Our team actually has talent. Not that hard to see the difference.like_that;1741209 wrote:I would take those two and their careers over mccown any day of the week. -

I already stated if the Browns can run the ball and play better defense they can win. If we are counting on mccown to make plays and win games, then we are looking at another shit show of a season.DeyDurkie5;1741232 wrote:That's great. I don't think anyone here stated he has to make plays and be the offense for us to win. Just that he can be that game manager this team needs to win games.like_that;1741249 wrote:I already stated if the Browns can run the ball and play better defense they can win. Quote where I said anything about that? You've been arguing against the very idea you just agreed on with like that in that quoted post.Commander of Awesome;1741256 wrote:Exactly. Dumbass durkie doesn't even know what he's arguing anymore. Too burnt out I guess. -

No dummy, Browns have to stop the run and run the ball well to have any chance of a winning record. McCown is a fucking bum, and has proven incapable of even being a "game manager" (whatever that means). Find a successful team with a "game manager" at QB. The argument, all he has to do is not turn the ball over! is the same arguement/spin we hear every season.DeyDurkie5;1741258 wrote:Quote where I said anything about that? Weeden: "Oh we'll he's 30 yrs old and the coaches will scheme the game so he just doesn't have to turn the ball over to win!"
McCoy: "He's got a noodle arm, but is accurate. All he has to do is move the chains and protect the football to win games!"
Delhomme: "He's a proven vet that will settle the QB room, and use his veteran smarts to not turn the ball over and give this team a chance to win!"
Dilfer: "SB winning QB that KNOWS how to not turn the ball over! Look at what he did on his SB run, he just had to not lose the game for you. He can do the same thing in Cleveland (Nevermind the fact that outside of that historic def and run to win the 2000 SB, he was a god fucking awful QB and was behind some asshat named Elvis). Protect the football and win some games!"
I could go on and on. Are you not seeing how you're falling into this same trap of nonsense that we spin every year? Bottom line, McCown sucks. If he's our QB we're prob going to be a shitty team unless we have a PWN def that stops the run, and rushes the passer, and dominant running game. We could very well have that this season, but any success we see will be in spite of McCown, who is terrible. -

COA, the Browns went 7-9 last year with hoyer as our qb. We return everyone but skrine, kept our defensive system in place two years in a row for the first time ever, and return everyone on offense plus added a couple areas of need. Normally you would be right, but you are falling into the "I'm a defensive know-it-all ginger who can't accept someone thinking the Browns will be good. You keep thinking that way, I'll look forward to the future of a great Browns team.Commander of Awesome;1741259 wrote:No dummy, Browns have to stop the run and run the ball well to have any chance of a winning record. I can definitely accept the browns being good, I just think there are more unproven than proven on this team.
Last season we couldn't stop the run and got run all over every game. When we had mack and stuck to the gameplan that made sense (not shannyfail boy ball of running the sweep/stretch run play every fucking down) we were competitive. Hopefully Shelton can come in here and provide a run stuffing authority on the line, and our other 2 rookies on def can provide a pass rush. That's a lot to expect from rookies, but we'll see.
I think we improved our oline, hopefully they stay healthy and West knows which direction to run this season, and the Crow no longer has the balance of toddler and we can have a pwn running game. We're going to need it, since we're worse at QB. -

They don't have a top 5 defense, at least not yet.Crimson streak;1741202 wrote:Those guys all failed bc we had a shitty defense, a shitty o line and couldn't run the ball. And yes, the O-Line will be good, VERY good, but everyone on the planet knows that. They also know the Browns have a journeyman turd for a QB so (as usual) all defenses need to do is sell out to stop the run and make McCown beat them through the air.
Not to use clichés but the Browns offense vs the opponents defense will be a "battle of wills" because the Browns are going to try to pound the run, whether it's working or not, and the opponents are going to stack the box, knowing it's coming. Best "man" wins. -

I didn't understand this part of the article, anyone got a clue?
"Northcutt’s decision to stray beyond his normal job description could help explain why so many young players struggled last year, from receiver Josh Gordon (whose one-year suspension came because he drank alcohol on a plane after the regular-season finale, something he apparently didn’t know he wasn’t allowed to do) to quarterback Johnny Manziel (who had perhaps the most disastrous rookie season of any first-round quarterback since the merger) to cornerback Justin Gilbert (who dramatically underachieved as a rookie)." -

I could see JFF & Gilbert as he may have had a hand in drafting them but Gordon makes no sense.Commander of Awesome;1741706 wrote:SMH, Grossi gott Grossi

MulvaI think the implication is that keeping guys focused/out of trouble was part of his responsibility as director of player engagement, and that it didn't happen because he spent his time doing other shit.
-
BR1986FBThe article's from Grossi which says a lot. What Mary Kay Cabot is to "misinformed", Grossi is to "bitter bitch towards the Browns because I lost my HOF vote." Grossi's always been an asshole but he became particularly bitter when he got fired from the PD and lost his say on who should be voted into Canton.
