I don't know. Ask Golden State what they think about bigs.Automatik;1735608 wrote:And do what regarding a big? I think you have to keep one of them.
The reality is, small ball works and in the case where you have to play against a Center, Thompson can do just fine and/or you can bring in a cheap big dude to buy you some minutes. -
Azubuike24Varejao is the unknown. All we know is he's older and coming off a pretty serious injury that is very difficult for basketball players to ever recover from. If he's exactly what he was and will be that for 2-3 more years, then it's an easy decision on Mozgov (because he will get an 8-figure deal per year somewhere) and a bit easier on Thompson (if he really insists on a max deal).
Ideally, if you put aside LeBron's like for AV, you could trade him, keep pay Thompson what he wants and then gauge Mozgov's value after next year. That's what I would do, but sometimes there is more than goes on in making those moves than a fan's perspective. -

No he's not. He's a great hustle player WHEN healthy, which is never. That's known. Guys, we're keeping Love, Moz, Shump, prob JR too.Azubuike24;1735615 wrote:Varejao is the unknown. Thompson is a better version of Varejao and he's not injury prone. I think AV is washed up and I'll be surprised if he actually contributes anything next year.Commander of Awesome;1735617 wrote:No he's not. He's a great hustle player WHEN healthy, which is never. I actually agree with this. The Cavs might be better served keeping Love, signing Thompson and then doing whatever else they can to find some more wing and shooting depth. They can definitely do better than Smith and Shumpert, and there's always available big bodies that could fill minutes at center for short spurts.sleeper;1735614 wrote:I don't know. IMO, it's not really smart to pay one of these non-offensive big men like Jordan, Drummond, Gortat, Asik, etc...a near max deal, unless you feel they can develop into an even more dangerous offensive players. Given the lack of big men, that's what these guys are going to go for... -

I don't think you have a full grasp on the Cavs' cap situation.Azubuike24;1735621 wrote:I actually agree with this. He IS an unknown, because you're going to need to convince another team he has some value and try to dump the remaining 3 years on his contract. Whether he contributes for the Cavs or not doesn't matter, but he can't just make 11M to sit the bench when there are 3 or 4 other guys on the roster you want to pay...Commander of Awesome;1735617 wrote:No he's not. I mean, is a team with cap room really going to take on Andy? -
Azubuike24
What don't I get? You pretty much only have Varejao, Irving and Mozgov next year. Thompson could be signed to a big deal elsewhere which the Cavs would have to match. LeBron and Love both max deals once signed. What else am I missing?like_that;1735622 wrote:I don't think you have a full grasp on the Cavs' cap situation. -
Commander of AwesomeChrist you're dense.
No, no team is going to take Andy unless it's part of a bigger deal (Contract, health). He's most likely staying on the cavs (barring a big deal involving Love/KI which has a chance of less than 5% of happening.) He's staying on the Cavs, prob play his usual 25-30 games, gets injured again and sits on the bench as a cheerleader rest of the yr. That's what he does every year.
And to answer you informed statement, "he can't just make 11M to sit the bench when there are 3 or 4 other guys on the roster you want to pay..."
Umm, yeah actually he can. We can't cut him, no team wants him, and we're OVER THE FUCKING CAP regardless. Love stays, or Love goes, we're still over the cap. We're paying luxury regardless. Doesn't matter.
Let me say this one more time, we are going to be over the cap and paying into the luxury cap. This isn't the NFL, where you can cut guys without cap implications. -

He really doesn't.like_that;1735622 wrote:I don't think you have a full grasp on the Cavs' cap situation. -
ZWICK 4 PREZI let Andy walk after next year. With the cap exploding, He'll give us some room.

umm he has a 3 yr contract. Can't do that.ZWICK 4 PREZ;1735630 wrote:I let Andy walk after next year. With the cap exploding, He'll give us some room. -
Commander of AwesomeZwick and Az, before posting again either ask smart questions to learn about NBA cap and contracts or look it the fuck up. Tired to trying to have a legitimate conversation with basically the "They should trade Mark Price and Ello for Jordan!" type of responses out you two numbskulls.
-
Azubuike24I understand how it works. Why couldn't he be traded along with other assets (an expiring contract an/or future pick) to a team with cap room? There are teams who don't use their cap space each year that would consider it while they aren't really "contending?"

I misread the note. 2017-2018 isn't guaranteed. I thought next year was then the following wasn't.Commander of Awesome;1735631 wrote:umm he has a 3 yr contract. Can't do that. -

Why would a team do that? Theoretically he can traded along with assets for Steph Curry, but what's the likelihood of that happening?Azubuike24;1735633 wrote:I understand how it works. i know how it works fuck head. I thought 2016-2017 wasn't guaranteed. It's the following year.Commander of Awesome;1735632 wrote:Zwick and Az, before posting again either ask smart questions to learn about NBA cap and contracts or look it the fuck up. So cut him in 2017-2018. -

So cut him in 2017-2018.
Career Cav, let's fucking cut him because of Dan Gilbert's pocket book! Fuck locker room, loyalty, maybe he's healthy, etc... Nope I'm doing to paper work now to cut him in 2 yrs!
Glad you're not the GM. -

hes essentially the same player as TT but older.Commander of Awesome;1735637 wrote:Great insight!

You don't manage a franchise with your heart.
if you pay TT you're telling him he's your guy. -
Azubuike24They think their only risk is paying him for 2 additional years and might get lucky and get some production. Also get a future pick? For instance, Philadelphia has almost 35M to spend next year just to hit the salary minimum. Who the hell are they going to spend it on unless they somehow blow it all in free agency? Take on Varejao and a future 1st/2nd rounder and only lose cash they would have to spend on someone anyway.

You also don't cut players 2 yrs from now. And he's not the same player as TT, glad to see you don't watch games.ZWICK 4 PREZ;1735638 wrote:hes essentially the same player as TT but older.

TT is a much better rebounder, shorter, worse shooter and more athletic. AV wishes he was TT. There's a reason Andy never sniffed the kind of contract TT is going to get. Also TT stays healthy (knock on wood), something AV has never been able to do. -
Azubuike24Orlando and Boston, same boat. Sounds like Boston is hell bent on spending that cap space and trying to compete soon, but still. I mean, these teams might laugh at helping the Cavs make any deal, but it's not impossible to at least make an offer.

In 2 yrs from now? Lol why are you even talking about that. If anything restructure his deal to keep him a cav for life.ZWICK 4 PREZ;1735642 wrote:Ok so you just validated every reason to cut Andy lol Jesus christ man. -
Midstate01The cavs aren't cutting haywood. Someone will be desperate to get that 10 mil contract. They'll get something for him.
