He's just not an elite player. He had a good NBA finals but that was it. I don't see him carrying the Spurs anywhere after Duncan, Manu, and Parker retire. He's not a piece for the future.

I tend to agree with you here. He warrants a max deal, don't think he plays like a max player. One thing I will say is that Leonard seems to give it all whenever he's on the floor. I can respect paying a guy who has that kind of motor to go with incredible ability.

Leonard and Aldridge would be a pretty solid foundation for the next era of the Spurs.

Danny Green 4 years, $45M with Spurs.

He's one of the best 2 way players in the league. Not many guys have the ability to guard lebron AND durant individually, kawhi is 1.

Spurs were .500 team without him last year, they won at a .720 clip with him.

17 & 7, while being the leagues best defender. Sounds like a max type player to me. Also, at 23 he's bound to continue to improve.

Or heavily regress to his mean. You really think he puts up any relevant numbers after the Big 3 move on? No. He's an above average defender but a mediocre offensive talent. Not a max deal.

DeMarre Carroll to the Raptors. 4 years, $60M

Starting 5 of Parker, green, Leonard, Duncan, Aldridge with ginobli, diaw, mills off the bench? Yikes!

San Antonio doesn't have a big 3 anymore. They are a well rounded team, their 2 most important players are Kawhi and then Duncan. So, depending on how the offseason goes for the spurs (signing Aldredge???) I expect Kawhi to average between 17 - 21 pts per game next year.

Also, he is much more than an above average defender, he is THE BEST defender. I know you think defense is overrated and only teams with LBJ are capable of winning titles, but having the best defender in the league on your team is a huge plus.

That's a pretty good squad for sure, although I think Ginoboli is going to retire. Just a gut feeling.

    Yikes indeed.

I would expect the Aldridge to SA announcement some time this evening.

Well rounded team, can't even win a playoff series.

If the Spurs get Aldridge, at least they will have a true max player to carry the team.

I'll never get how you have such a hard on for winning and players who win, yet shun guys like Kawhi Leonard a proven champion with a Finals MVP and a DPOY award. You make no sense

I said he's not a max player. Not sure why this is complicated.

fair enough, I disagree and think he is a max player. If he average 17+ and finishes top 5 NBA dpoy next year, would your opinion change?

    20, 8, 5. 50% shooting. 60+ wins, and top 3 DPOY.

    And a playoff series win.

Anyone else lol-ing at Raptors? Carroll has Bonzi Wells written all over him to me.

Not a single player in the league accomplished those stats this year. I guess there are no players in the league worth Max contracts.

Well the added wins requirement and DPOY are there because Leonard hasn't done enough to warrant his current deal so has to work extra hard to get the value extracted.

I mean is Iggy a max player? He's good a defense and a finals MVP.

Apples to oranges comparison. Andre is 7 years older than Kawhi, and is on the downward trajectory of his career. Kawhi is just now entering his prime, already has a title (which included 4 round of playoff wins fyi), defensive POY, and a finals MVP.

Even if the Kawhi we saw this year was the same Kawhi we see for the next 5 years and does not improve in any facets of the game, he is still worth a max contract. Chances are we will see an even better Kawhi as he continues to improve.
