Tribe Offseason Thread

The fact lindor has not been sent down yet makes me believe francona is pretty serious about maybe having lindor start the season as the tribes starter. The kid is going to be a stud. I still think Ramirez starts the year but by May lindor will be our everyday shortstop unless Ramirez is playing too well to make the change

Moss has to be in right.
Also foot wedge, did you miss Bauer giving up 3 hr in an inning and then last week 4 triples in an inning? I'd call that struggling, and it makes me nervous.

Might be a moot point if Kipnis continues to have back spasms ...Ramirez is too good to sit or be sent down, but if Kip is questionable, Lindor might be kept on varsity.

I 'm not worried about Kluber (gave up 2 dingers yesterday) or Bauer who have locks on rotation spots. Those guys are just going thru their working on pitches. Zac Mac and Salazaar , are pitching for spots in the rotation, so their spring training results are more significant.

Our second string catcher, much like last year has been tearing it up. Working with Bourn to get his stolen bases numbers back up to 50 a season.

Lindor is making it difficult to send him down.

Kipnis with more back spasms and one has to wonder as to how healthy he will be. The question remains...Murphy or Ross in right field.

I still think this team is loaded and should win the division.
Nice. Not worried about Shaw. Kipnis is a red flag. If he misses time, can Ramirez swing around to 2nd and open up SS for Lindor?

As for Moss/Murphy, I think right now there is room for them both in the lineup with Swisher still injured. Moss is going to be an everyday player, whether he plays 1st, RF or DH. They are giving Holt a good look right now. He's getting a lot of ABs this spring. I could see Holt/Murphy starting the season in RF, depending on lefty/righty starter. Santana pretty much the everyday 1st basemen and Moss mostly DHing. When Swisher comes back, you'll have 3 guys who really need to either play 1st or DH in Moss/Swisher/Santana. That will be interesting to see how that shakes out. Last season, Moss played 67 games at 1st, 56 in left and 34 in right so combined he played more outfield than 1st base but the Tribe have him listed as an infielder.

There is a metric called Rtotal which combines several defensive metrics into one stat and the number is supposed to equal how many runs you either were worth to your team or cost your team based on your defense. Think WAR but instead of wins...it is runs allowed/prevented. At 1st base, Moss was -4. In left, he was -3. In right, he was +3, albeit the smallest sample size.

    Im worried about Shaw.

He was very good for 2 years. But really started to struggle towards the end of last year.

    ^^^I noticed that, too.

Kipnis is starting to smell a lot like the Sizemore/Hafner scenario. The DP combo for the future is Lindor and Ramirez. Maybe there's a team out there that would part ways with an established reliever and take a flyer on Kipnis.

I guess I am not seeing that as all. I see a lot of question marks piled with hopes and dreams.

Lol he has back spasms not even close to the injuries Sizemore and hafner had. And to trade him for a reliever? GTFO

Lindor either is the starter opening day or they wait until June to bring him up to preserve an arbitration year.

yeah, I don't know why we'd sell Kipnis for a reliever, and at the bottom of his value. I could see trading Kipnis or Ramirez at the trade deadline to get a player we would need to help in a pennant run, but I'm not going to give either away for nothing.

Yeah, this. And I am all for it.

Get him for an extra year by keeping him down. But, if you dont...start him from day 1 and just let him go. I dont want any of this up and down BS. He is the best prospect we have had since I can remember. Universally a top 5 prospect in every single ranking. When was the last time we had someone like that in the minors??

I don't know why any team would trade any viable player of any kind for any reliever below the Kimbrel/Chapman sort of tier. Relievers are interchangeable parts that can be found anywhere for next to nothing, as long as you have the coaching to put them in the right position at the right time. Minor league starters who don't have the overall stuff to succeed in that role in the majors, reclamation projects looking to bounce back from injury, guys with good stuff who just haven't consistently harnessed it yet...decent to good relievers can be found anywhere in any number of ways that don't involve trading legit players.

Look at the source. Footwedge's stupidity is well-documented.

Cleveland fans annoy me with their jinx shit sometimes. How many games did they win this year ('96)?

    In the playoffs? 1.

Man, I hadn't even checked to see who was the person that had made that idea originally. Guess I should have known, given its complete disregard for simple logical baseball thought. I mean, for a relief pitcher? Lol, that'd be like an NFL team having two legit starting quarterbacks and deciding to trade one in order to get a good fullback.

Wasn't the question, but anything to play into the typical 'woe is me' bullshit i guess. People need to shut up and enjoy the publicity.

You're acting awfully high and mighty and "stick up my butt"-ish over people mostly joking around about a jinx.
