My other favorite scores. All they have to do is start Ohiobucks1 all-stars and were shitty team beaters!

    Tell that to Wondo lol

They should start Aron up top against Turkey and bring on Altidore if they need more offense.
  • Laley23
Altidore must start for the USA, especially of we are going to be a playing a counter style. He is literally the only player on the team who can play with his back to the goal. He is a target man who can create chances by coming back to receive it. With how many long balls the US is sure to be playing, you need a point man like Jozy to maintain any semblance of possession.

What is bigger in your opinion? The champions league or World Cup? I have a friend who is trying to argue that the champions league is bigger...
  • Automatik
    WC easily.

I know people who will tune in to watch the WC and probably don't even know what the Champions League is.

What do you mean by bigger? More people watch total? The final? Best play?

The Champions League Final got 109 Million views. By comparison the 2010 WC final got 509 million views. Additionally, there were more than 20 games in the WC that had over 200 million viewers.

So the answer is the WC is definitely bigger overall, but bigger in terms of what players care about these days? Bigger in terms of better? I think the CL has certainly passed the WC in quality, so if youre looking at bigger as in better, then an argument could be made. Bigger in terms of number of views though, no chance.

Prestige. I think if you give a fan or player a choice the majority will pick the WC.

WC and it's not even debatable.

Prestige wise I would argue that the CL is more prestigious in terms of quality and the WC is more prestigious in terms of what it means when you win.

Would you rather see chelsea win the CL or the USA win the WC?

Easily USA because I like USA more. But I'd rather see Chelsea win the CL than England win the WC...

WC is definitely a bigger prize for the fans IMO, but the quality isn't as good as the quality of the CL. Some of the teams in the WC aren't good (Honduras, Iran, Cameroon, Japan, Costa Rica, Nigeria, Algeria, Korea, etc).

I am not arguing quality. The champions league is much better soccer, however when it comes down to it, I think people rather see their country win the WC than their club team win the Champions league. Same with players, at the end of their career I bet they rather have a WC title than a champions league title.

Side question: Is this solely due to the WC prestige or because of how all the CL clubs are overseas and there's no real local team to cheer for?

Like, with hockey, where there are more local/regional teams to cheer for, I care far more about who wins the Stanley Cup than who wins the Olympic gold every four years. But if it was down to cheering for who wins the not-every-year world competition and who wins a yearly team battle that WASN'T in my country, I'd probably care more about the Olympics than Stanley Cup.

    Good question to ponder.

Ehhhh...I don't know. Jozy showed terribly last night. Horrible touch, for the most part. Lackluster runs. Really not even existent against a team who Lalas said it'd be good to get him 2-3 goals. I would also venture to say that he's not even a back-to-goal player. He has speed, that's about it. He doesn't even use his strength well.

A target player isn't even used in a 4-4-2 much, unless it's more of a 4-4-1-1. Last night, there was no withdrawn striker. They needed the two strikers to work off each other, Jozy doesn't do that well.

I think because the World Cup is far more prestigious and there's nothing even close. It's like the Olympics (used to be or are in some sports). Everyone wants to see their sport, team, country, or whatnot do well.

I think there's better soccer at the World Cup, especially in the knockout rounds. Teams like Spain, Brazil, Netherlands, Germany, Italy, France, and England can be absolutely loaded with talent in any given year. Then you get the gorgeous opportunity of "underdog" with Uruguay, USMNT, Argentina (funny to lump them in here), Nigeria, Ivory Coast, and whoever else may appear at any tournament.

I love soccer, no doubt about it. I go to extremes to watch any game. But, no one does what happens every 4 years during World Cup years.

Real Madrid would beat any single national team. They play together every single day. On paper there may be more talent on a few national teams (although I personally think that's debatable) but they dont have nearly the chemistry that a club team would have. 100% club > country.

With that said, I agree with everything else people have said. WC is better and more prestigious bc its only once every 4 years and you get to rep your home.

Blanco (Mexico) had 120 caps and 37 goals and he got a send off game last night.

Landon Donovan has 156 caps and 57 goals. I think he definitely deserves a send off game. Even if its the first game after the world cup.

Im sure he will get one.

Mix even said in his post game interview his #10 is only temporary until the WC is over and Landon is back as captain for a bit.

I saw that. I hope his going out game is against Mexico since #1 he got his first cap and goal against mexico, and 2) he was their bitter rival for so long

I think we need to stop hosting World Cups in these poor nations. Brazil can barely afford to just build the stadiums, the airports aren't ready, no real public transportation and an angry nation full of protestors because the government is spending so much on it. Just keep it between the US and Europe

    Disagree.

Africa might have been a stretch, but no need to keep it out of South America and Asia.

The Middle East can GFI though...

I guess some countries in Asia can. But South American nations just cannot afford an event like this. Brazil's GDP per capita is $11k or around where Hungary is
