What defensive player would you take at that pick? (Minus clowney assuming he's gone)

    Mack, Barr

I like Mack a lot, but I think they need a lot more help on the offensive side than defensive side. People will obviously be keying in a trying to take away Gordon, it'd be nice to have another weapon. Some will say Cameron, but it seemed like they would key on him some games, and then forget to throw to him towards the end of the year.

I'm seeing more and more potential on the defensive side of the ball via FA as we get closer to March 3. Several solid corners could be in play: Tillman, Joseph, and Shields just to name a few. Not to mention Rodgers-Cromartie is a FA also (although I had a hard time seeing him anywhere but Denver. Also, there's great potential that the Cowboys will cut Ware.

With this in mind, I think the Browns HAVE to focus mainly on offense in the draft. That's not to say we can't take any defensive players, but I'd be disappointed if we used fewer that 6 picks on offense.

Would've been 07 Pats with Welker's 112 catches and Moss, but they lost. I agree that Watkins would be fun to have but I'm not sure it would translate to playoff success. It's essentially what the Falcon's have tried to do, too.

Falcons, lions, bengals, Vikings... The list goes on and on with teams that failed with that model.

All those teams also have something very important that we don't, a QB. We better not fuck around with that spot.

    Boldin and Smith?

If we go defense with the 4th pick it would be clowney. That's the only defensive player I see us taking there. Otherwise it will be qb or Watkins. I truly believe if clowney is there he will be the pick. Then garapollo with the 2nd first. I'm honestly hoping for bridgewater to fall to us. A lot of people question whether he can make nfl reads but he had complete control of louisvilles offense. He made all the audibles and pretty much called the plays. He is a lot smarter than people give him credit for.

2/3 years the Falcons had julio they went to the playoffs. Dalton and green have made the playoffs each year they have been in the league. Point being you draft a dynamic receiver and get your qb it does help. Especially with the defensive/offensive pieces we have set up. We've drafted linemen, lbs, corners, etc since our return and it has got us nowhere. Scoring points in today's game matters.

Sounds like Hadens contract is all most done. Per Tony Grossi.

Also Bryd not expected to be tagged or resigned by Bills. So how about a Bryd FS Calvin Pryor (Pick 26) with Sam Shield as CB#2 Haden CB#1 and Skrine in the slot. If the Browns get a chance at Bryd Ward is gone IMHO.

Garrapollo is really growing on me. Bortles, Manziel or Bridgewater. Robinson or Mathews at 4 if they like Garrapollo in the second round.

It concerns me that nothing has been resolved with Mack and Ward yet. I'd love to get Byrd, but I would hope we can keep Ward as well. They are different positions, so with the cap space we have, I don't see why that wouldn't be a possibility. Who knows what the plan is, though. Obviously, Farmer has more than 2014 in mind, so I guess that's why he's making the calls and we aren't!

I mean there is really so many ways this team can go this year. So many options. But if we sign Bryd Id be very surprised if the sign Ward. I don't see them putting that much money in two saftey positions, I just don't. Especially with contract extensions coming up for Haden, Gordon, Sheard, Cameron. I fully expect the Browns to sign Mack, from what I saw they were waiting for Mack to get back in the states from his mission trip.

I see TJ Ward as a back up plan if they cant sign Bryd. If Bryd doesn't come here I expect them to throw all the money at TJ to keep him here. But Ill take a ballhawk saftey over a saftey that plays in the box.

You do realize that it's Byrd, right? Not Bryd lol... Just an FYI haha

Of everything I put in there, thats what you take away. Solid way to contribute.

Haha, I contribute a lot! I didn't have anything to argue against your post, so I suppose I could've put "I agree" but that wouldn't have been a huge contribution either, so I instead decided to correct your spelling error lol. No hard feelings, good sir.

On another note, it appears the Browns could be retaining Rubin. I realize this comes from MKC, but whatev...

Ahtyba Rubin - DL - Browns

After meeting with Browns officials at the Combine, the agent for LE Ahtyba Rubin is confident the team will retain Rubin at his current salary.

After an up-and-down 2013 campaign, Rubin is owed a $6.6 million base salary and $300,000 workout bonus. "They're happy to have him on team, no changes to his salary," agent Alan Herman told the Cleveland Plain Dealer. Rubin turns 28 in July. The Browns don't necessarily need cap room -- they're $56.9 million under -- but could lower Rubin's figure by signing him to a long-term extension.

This kinda speaks to what Sleeper was saying
Some said this current crop of quarterbacks reminded them of the 2011 class. Six of the first 12 teams in the order needed quarterbacks that year. Tennessee, Jacksonville and Minnesota reached for shakier prospects between the eighth and 12th choices. All three teams got burned, unless Jake Locker rights his career in Tennessee. Arizona and San Francisco also needed quarterbacks that year. Instead of reaching for one, the Cardinals took Patrick Peterson fifth and the 49ers took Aldon Smith seventh. Neither player filled the QB void, but both became Pro Bowl-caliber contributors in short order.

A look at some of the other non-QBs taken early in that draft drives home warnings about drafting the position over the player. Von Miller, A.J. Green, Tyron Smith, J.J. Watt and Robert Quinn became dominant players.

Brent Grimes signed a deal today for 4 years 32 million with 16 guaranteed. So that should set the market for Shields and I would think Haden would get a higher deal than that.

Not sure anyone is asking the browns to reach for a QB like the Vikes did, man that was a bad pick that most everyone mocked when it happened. Some of the big boards that I have seen, that dont take an espn insider account to view, have 3 in the top 12-15 so it really isnt a reach especially when a QB is the most pressing issues.
In alot of the instances you posted a QB was either in place or the team didnt do much until it did get a QB in place. Some browns fans are high on going with the Grapopolla (sp?) guy but do you really want to put the most important position on the field into his hands?

So basically they just picked out a draft that fit the point they wanted to make.

Isn't that what you would do when trying to make a point? If you don't think there's a franchise QB in this draft, wouldn't YOU look for drafts that also didn't have franchise QBs to make your argument?

You seem to be questioning a completely rational decision.
  • Commander of Awesome
    Fuck. Yes.

Browns are placing the transition tag on center Alex Mack, which will give Cleveland chance to match.

    Say goodbye to ward.
  • Ironman92
You don't wanna lose Ward do you? He has that chip every defense needs.
