Part of me hopes he's right for the Browns sake, on the other hand can you imagine how fucking insufferable he'd be if he was right?friendfromlowry;1585427 wrote:You guys hoping the Texans, Rams, and Jaguars don't know what footwedge knows? If not, the Browns will draft the best quarterback ever. -
Laley23I literally just went through Google to see who outside of Footwedge has predicted Manziel to be better than Manning. He is the only one.
-
GOONx19Most of the updated mocks I've seen think Houston will take Bortles. I would like that, unless they're taking Clowney instead.
-
like_thatIt's sounding like Rubin could be the next to be released. I hope farmer is looking to replace these guys in FA.

Commander of AwesomeYoung productive dline players are like starting pitching. You don't let them go. There aren't any better FAs at dline that rubin, sorry. It would be stupid to let him go, ESP considering we already have $52 million in cap space. Cutting him for what?

That would mean a serial liar lied. Hard to fathom.Laley23;1585484 wrote:I literally just went through Google to see who outside of Footwedge has predicted Manziel to be better than Manning. He is the only one. -

Geez... you're just negative Nancy. 2 weeks ago everyone was talking about how Farmer was a huge part of constructing the Chiefs and they can't wait to see what he does. Now you guys are whining when he's going to work. Rubin is awesome, but he costs a boat load toward the cap for a DL that had 2 sacks. Just take a chill pill.Commander of Awesome;1585592 wrote:Young productive dline players are like starting pitching. You don't let them go. There aren't any better FAs at dline that rubin, sorry. Agreed, save the QQing for after FA and the draft.Dr. KnOiTaLL;1585606 wrote:Geez... you're just negative Nancy. 2 weeks ago everyone was talking about how Farmer was a huge part of constructing the Chiefs and they can't wait to see what he does. Not QQing at all, just giving my opinion that letting go of Rubin because of cap reasons is dumb. Going into FA to get a DE to replace him will be more expensive as well.Dr. KnOiTaLL;1585606 wrote:Geez... you're just negative Nancy. 2 weeks ago everyone was talking about how Farmer was a huge part of constructing the Chiefs and they can't wait to see what he does. But I thought everyone on here said you couldn't find any good players in FA because if they were really that good why would the team let them go????Commander of Awesome;1585620 wrote:Not QQing at all, just giving my opinion that letting go of Rubin because of cap reasons is dumb. I doubt any DE we get in FA will be a difference maker. Top 2 DEs in FA will be Arthur Jones (A run stuffer much like Rubin), and Cincinnati's Michael Johnson a player who had a bad unproductive year as a pass rusher with motor issues. Give me Rubin out of those 2.sleeper;1585623 wrote:But I thought everyone on here said you couldn't find any good players in FA because if they were really that good why would the team let them go???? -
like_thatRubin is not a legit DE, sorry. If you actually believe that than he sure as hell isn't worth the money.

Rubin IMO is a very average player. Never understood why everyone hyped him up like he was a play making delike_that;1585631 wrote:Rubin is not a legit DE, sorry. If you actually believe that than he sure as hell isn't worth the money. -

No one made him out to be play making DE, got a link for that? He's a solid high motor run stuffing DE, which is needed in a 3-4 defense. Stong work ethic, high motor, productive disruptive DE but not a sack artist.Crimson streak;1585645 wrote:Rubin IMO is a very average player. "Rubin was solid all year in run support, with the sixth-best Run Stop Percentage among defensive ends, but he struggled to generate pressure. He had a putrid Pass Rushing Productivity of 3.6. Rubin was the fourth-highest-paid interior lineman last season but put up the 39th-ranked Performance Based Value."

Great DE against the run, not a pass rusher. If we get rid of Rubin, is there a better DE/DT in FA?
I wouldn't care if we got rid of him, I have no ties to him. I just don't want to get worse for the sake of saving Haslem some money. The goal is to get better, not worse. We cut him and get a better player than I'm all for it. I'm just not aware of better players available in FA. -

Yeah, I am not as high on Rubin as some people. A lot of browns fans fall in love with the feel good blue collar stories of some of our guys, and then seem to forget the guy isn't making any plays. It's a blind love. I have fallen victim to it for a few players in the past.Crimson streak;1585645 wrote:Rubin IMO is a very average player. I also remember an insider article last year, about how Rubin has one of the worst contracts in the NFL. -

I can agree I'm not in love with him, but I disagree with you on production. He's a solid run stuffing DE/DT, high motor good work ethic guy. Yeah his contract may suck, but you're not going to sign a guy in FA that's as productive for any less money. In fact it will probably cost more. Can't do anything about Heckert's bonehead contract he gave him 2011, but at $52 million under the cap, I don't give a shit.like_that;1585662 wrote:Yeah, I am not as high on Rubin as some people. SportsAndLadyI like Rubin for depth. I agree with COA I don't wanna dump him just because he has a bad contract. We have the cap space so unless we plan on making big splashes in FA (which never usually turns out well) I hope we don't dump him. Depth on the D-line is much needed.

I believe releasing him is what they can do. We have Bryant, PT, Hughes, Winn, and kitchen. Play PT more than dumbfuck horton played him, and that's how you replace that productivity. I would be a little more concerned if we ran a 4-3, but we don't.Commander of Awesome;1585664 wrote:I can agree I'm not in love with him, but I disagree with you on production. In a 3-4, there are only so many DT's you need. Let's be real here, all the guys we have on the d line now, are DT caliber players. All these guys would play DT if the Browns ran a 4-3. I am more concerned about building depth at OLB and finding guys to replace DQ, and most likely Robertson.SportsAndLady;1585665 wrote:I like Rubin for depth. If you consider finishing with the 4th highest score among 4-3 DE's on PFF a bad, unproductive year, then I'd LOVE to have him.Commander of Awesome;1585629 wrote:Cincinnati's Michael Johnson a player who had a bad unproductive year as a pass rusher with motor issues.
Caveat: you're right about his pass rushing, but he still finished in the top 25 among ALL DE in PFF rushing the QB with a score of 3 (which was still good enough for 13th among 4-3 DEs). -

Did I miss naming a top FA DE? Is there a better PFF rated DE/DT FA than Johnson or Jones?lhslep134;1585675 wrote:If you consider finishing with the 4th highest score among 4-3 DE's on PFF a bad, unproductive year, then I'd LOVE to have him.

shook_17Dumping Rubin might not be a bad move. Wynn and Hughes will do just fine. Releasing him will free up more money for FA and Our guys coming up for new contracts. Ward, Mack, Haden, Cameron and Sheard.

Exactly farmer isn't looking at just this year for salary. We gotta lock up our core guys to decent contracts and get rid of the bad ones (Rubin, Jackson) plus it gives us more money to improve the team in fa whike cutting dead weightshook_17;1585684 wrote:Dumping Rubin might not be a bad move. shook_17Hell even josh Gordon is going to get a 100 million dollar deal if he keeps playing this way. And that's not counting our franchise QB when we get one
-
Laley23These moves are smart. I wouldn't be shocked with Farmers track record of bullding teams if he found a guy we haven't heard of in FA or late rounds of draft and he makes more impact plays than Rubin.
Ill give Farmer a long leash. His eye for talent over the years, IMO, has
earned it for himself.
