Closest teams are, what, San Fran/Oakland to the south and Colorado to the SE? So Seattle has the entire northwest of the country.

Or STO, NESN, etc. Any of the teams whos owner started a network just for their teams, essentially.

That, coupled with the fact they own the station (unlike the FOX Local stations) so they can pick programming and sell their broadcasting to the Pac-12, high schools, etc. They have complete control of what goes onto their station and take in 100% of its revenue. STO was actually one of the first to do it, but they were almost too early. They signed a deal and didnt capitalize on its true worth.

Sources: #Pirates, free-agent RHP Edinson Volquez in agreement on one-year, $5M contract, pending physical.

    The Reds and Cardinals rejoice!

According to Heyman, Yanks turned down a Brett Gardner to Cincy for Brandon Phillips trade.

So MLB buys stolen goods man Bud just keeps getting worse

Tigers talking to Dodgers about a deal bringing Kemp to the Motor City. Eh I don't like it, too injury prone. That's one thing I loved about Prince, he never missed a game

Still hate facing former players, especially as many times as they could face him.

Ought to be interesting. Pirates have been good at repairing pitchers in recent years, but that might be like trying to turn a trailer into a mansion.

    No more home plate collisions.

So are catchers not aloud to block the plate anymore?

    Runner must slide.

Terrible. It's like slow pitch Softball. Are they allowed to leap?

Also, it sucks that David Price wouldn't even consider an extension with Seattle. Felix, Price, Kuma would be amazing. That could help Seattle land another bat to go along with Cano and Seager.
  • Azubuike24
All it's gonna take it one "slide" resulting in a broken leg, shredded knee or spike to the face of an unmasked catcher for them to reverse this rule. It's been in baseball forever.

Also, you're going to get someone who just doesn't give a fuck and crushes an unexpecting catcher anyway. Sure, the run wont count, but it would be well worth it.
  • Laley23
If the runner must slide, the catcher should be allowed to block the plate. Its stupid to be able to block home plate but not 1st, 2nd or 3rd.
  • HitsRus
The exact language of the rule has not been written, but any rule that allows for 'interpretation' of hard contact is going to really muck things up. Most certainly if the play is only so-so close, and he bumps the catcher, or the catcher moves into a runner not sliding a whole lot of scenarios open up where questionable calls can be made.

Also on the docket is an expansion of replay...and manager's challenge.

They said from what I read it will be like at any other base, with the catcher not being able to block the plate unless he has the ball already.

I like the idea of no blocking/ no collision at home.

    Signed,

Wonder how Possey and McCann feel about that new rule.

Volquez hasn't been good. He got cut by San Diego, yes, one of the worst teams, last year. Career ERA 4.75 and WHIP 1.51. 449 walks in 850 innings.

You will literally hate him by June, if not earlier.

Well...I guess this could still happen.

    Rumor floating around

Brandon Phillips and Homer Bailey for Matt Kemp
Reds also interested in Omar Infante

If there was a guarantee of 140+ games played per season.....Hell Yes.

Do we know if Homer is comfortable with our new catcher?

Possibly, but you could have said that about both Burnett and Liriano when they got them. At least for recent results, as both of them were at least good for more than one year of their career before coming to Pittsburgh.
  • Azubuike24
That's the thing. Burnett and Liriano showed signs of being an ace caliber pitcher before. Both had health issues.

Volquez, other than a very short stint in 1 season, never performed this way.
