    This is the ultimate "that is my story and I am sticking to it" scenario.

    He is banking everything on the fact he hasnt failed a drug test.
    I watched the Bosh thing last night. They tried to corner him with the whole situation that at first he denied it all. Well, duh, of course he is going to deny. Everyone denies shit at first, until things start to get unconvered and ya realize ya best just come clean.


    The one thing I want to hear now though is from a Dr, and/or some experts to back up what Bosh says about the flaws of the testing and how to not get caught. If that is true, and the person is extremely careful and disciplined to not go overboard, and I believe ARod would be that type, then yeah he is 100% guilty. Right now I stand at 99.999999999999999% guilt.
    It used to be less before the whole lance armstrong thing. I thought he was telling the truth becuase of no positive tests at the time becuase the extent of a coverup woulda been just too many people. BUT.....there were so many people in on that one.

    At Least Kershaw will be in his prime the whole contract. Injuries are impossible to predict, so I see no reason to hate on the deal. Best pitcher in baseball and will be for presumable AT LEAST half the contract.

    If anyone is worth a big contract it is a guy Kershaw's age that is for sure. HE will be making around a million per start. Sounds insane.

    but still better than the Arod, Votto, Cano and Pujols deals.

    I almost agree more with what M and M was saying...give a guy 35 million a year for 4 years instead....

    ^^^you can pretty much count on him not earning his $30+million/year at least 1 or two of the years. It doesn't take much to tweak and elbow or rotator cuff...pull a groin muscle or get an abdominal strain.....and when that happens, every start he misses is a $ million plus down the drain.

    If you only sign players to two year contracts, you will lose most all of them to FA.

    When it comes to overpaying AND doing it for a long time, it just boils down to whether you can afford the loss, because at some point you are going to lose.

    The Angels are probably wishing right now that they had gotten serious about trying to sign Trout to a long term deal earlier now that the Kershaw extension has come through.

    He is under team control for a while still, but to get any sort of discount on buying out some of the early FA years you have to sign them early. The closer he gets to FA, the more expensive it becomes on a long term deal.

    $30 million a season is now his floor in any long term contract talks most likely he has with the Angels.

    That is true, but they are doing it to hopefully win NOW, and deal with the losing $$ later......The American Way.

    I think you are right. The Angels should try the REds approach and do it with a couple of years left on his deal. Pretty tempting for a guy to sign a 10 year deal when he still has two years left knowing that pressure is now off of him...

    The Angels were sucked in (like most franchises) by the allure of only having to pay him under a million a year or so and getting MVP level production. The long view though is that by paying him more now than you have to you get somewhat of a discount on his early FA years when he is at his absolute peak when you would be spending the real money.
