Any truth to that or is it more of an owner "falling on the grenade" to prevent a star player from getting any sort of a prima donna reputation?
lol pwned. Jordo talking out of his ass again, not sure why I didn't research that at the time. I should know by now to never believe keyboard diarrhea he spews.

Remember when Kobe threatened to leave LA and then they signed Gasol?

Asked if he had any preference for a trade destination, he said "At this point I'll go play on Pluto."
  • Automatik
Or acted like a total bitch when his team sucked?

Great question. I really wish I knew the answer, or at least knew someone who was paying enough attention back then to know.

Further proof that LBJ/Durant are on another level. lol at Melo, Ellis, Gay.

Thanks for posting that COA, pretty interesting even if not surprising.

Little surprised by Westbrook and Griffin's spots. Also Kyrie being so "low" was a bit of an eyebrow raise. You see Harden's mark? Top 26 for sure

Could you give a brief explanation...a few players on there are throwing me off on what I think it means. (Wade and Curry throwing me off on how I'm looking at it)

Just shot attempts (including FTs) and TO's and it's based on shot attempts and TO's while you are on the floor, which is how it adjusts for pace.

    Usg%
Usage Percentage (available since the 1977-78 season in the NBA); the formula is 100 * ((FGA + 0.44 * FTA + TOV) * (Tm MP / 5)) / (MP * (Tm FGA + 0.44 * Tm FTA + Tm TOV)). Usage percentage is an estimate of the percentage of team plays used by a player while he was on the floor.

Top right corner means you not only have the ball alot, but you score efficiently with it when you shoot.

The most surprising person on that chart for me is that Stephen Curry's USG% is so low. it was about the same in the playoffs too.

It seems pretty simple (or so I think).

The y-axis is True Shooting %, which is just efficiency when scoring; per ESPN,
    • TS%: True Shooting Percentage - what a player's shooting percentage would be if we accounted for free throws and 3-pointers. True Shooting Percentage = Total points / [(FGA + (0.44 x FTA)]
The x-axis is Usage %, or how many uses a player has of the team's possessions; per ESPN,
    Usage Rate - the number of possessions a player uses per 40 minutes. Usage Rate = {[FGA + (FT Att. x 0.44) + (Ast x 0.33) + TO] x 40 x League Pace} divided by (Minutes x Team Pace)
Basically it's just showing which players are justified as having a higher usage rate as their TS% is still high (LeBron and Durant being so much better than anyone else, while Melo is a chucker).

Edit: CoA posted while I was writing my post (sorry for the double up).

And as far as Curry goes, he should get more shots as long as his efficiency doesn't suffer. But then again, sharing the ball with the entire team does keep everyone more engaged.

Thanks.....the turnovers and the "left to right" meaning were confusing me.

Pretty telling I'd say (now that I know what the hell it means lol)

Poor Rudy Gay. Guy's so low his name doesn't even fit on the chart completely.

Haha I used TS at beginning of last season to argue why I thought he was...well you know.

I thought it was surprising that Kobe was right on the slope. I would have expected him to be around Melo (in terms of TS).
  • lhslep134
    COA, where'd you find that?
  • Commander of Awesome
Saw it on another forum. Not 100% sure of the source, but a quick google search shows the graph is making the rounds.

Heretic;1481280 wrote:I'm more and more understanding what you were saying about how this is sort of a matter of opinion thing where you can see it from both angles and not disagree. Because I read this and agree with what you were saying, but...

Magic was a long-time Laker who was, as CoA said, essentially the face of the franchise for a long time. This all happened really early in his career, though, but as a young draftee who'd already been really good for them, you could easily state he was a guy they were planning to build around for the future.

Meanwhile, Paul was a free agent signing to a historically horrible franchise that's having a shocking burst of competence in recent times, to where it feels more like a "do what I want...or you guys can go back to being a perennial lottery team" ultimatum.

As a question, while looking on Wiki for the time this happened with Magic, I read this: Although it is commonly believed that Magic Johnson orchestrated Westhead's ouster, a 1987 book called "Winnin' Times" (about the Los Angeles Lakers' franchise history) indicated that Laker owner Jerry Buss wanted to fire Westhead several days prior to the actual occurrence.

Any truth to that or is it more of an owner "falling on the grenade" to prevent a star player from getting any sort of a prima donna reputation?

"In the locker room after that meeting, Johnson told the press that he couldn't play under Westhead's system anymore and that he wanted to be traded. After the Lakers arrived back in Los Angeles the next morning, Buss called a press conference, and Westhead was gone, with the remaining three years of his four-year, $1.1 million contract guaranteed."

Oden signs a 2 year, minimum deal with Miami. No real surprise IMO.

Best of luck to Oden, really pullin for him.

Can't hate the guy for that decision. That was literally the BEST place for him to go.
