2013 Pittsburgh Steelers Thread

AutomatikI'd keep him around for a nice price.
"Send to Cleveland"? How would they do that if they cut him?
Also, really nice edit...total knee slapper. -

Figure of speech. We don't want him.Automatik;1402597 wrote:"Send to Cleveland"? How would they do that if they cut him? -
AutomatikI don't think you'll have to worry about that.

Yeah, I don't either. The Browns are looking for young/productive players, not washed up "has beens."Automatik;1402603 wrote:I don't think you'll have to worry about that. -
AutomatikIt's part of the game and life in general. You can't play forever. Harrison's accomplishments as a Steeler are vast. Please let me know when Cleveland drafts/produces a player that can compare.

Kind of reminds me of Joey Porter to a point where he became a one trick pony....rushing the passer. Harrison used to be able to be effective rushing the passer, defending the run AND in pass coverage. Now he seems to only have rushing the passer in his mindset, and lets be honest...if that is your only asset how effective of a player are you? 16 sacks is a great year, but that is just one sack in a game and you know that a few games you get multiple so tha tleave a few games sackless. True, you can be effective rusher without a sack but he hasnt been.Gblock;1402046 wrote:i also love how harrison already came out and said hes not taking less money like we cant do without the 2 sacks he had last year and the multiple times he was supposed to cover someone or has edge responsibility but he is looking in the backfield and totally out of position -
AutomatikHe's just not as quick either and it causes him to be out of position in coverage...just like Porter You could see this decline coming the season before last. 34 is up there for a LB with his playing style.

Joe Thomas, Hall of Famer in waiting. Will Harrison make the Hall? I'm very skeptical.Automatik;1402617 wrote:It's part of the game and life in general. You can't play forever. JP had a monster year for Mia after leaving but yet, he was done. He become a one trick pony with his rush and fond himself way outta position.Automatik;1402626 wrote:He's just not as quick either and it causes him to be out of position in coverage...just like Porter You could see this decline coming the season before last. 34 is up there for a LB with his playing style.
Harrison has had back issues which really hampered him I think. That, and age. A bad back can be the worst of all injuries i think.
As a HOF for James? Not a chance. Just not enough longevity I dont think to warrant a shout out. -
Automatik
Speculation, not even comparable. Again, just let me know when he achieves similar accolades. Let's not even go there. I'm not concerned with Cleveland in this thread.BR1986FB;1402627 wrote:Joe Thomas, Hall of Famer in waiting. Will Harrison make the Hall? I'm very skeptical. -
Gblockfwiw i think harrisson was injured last year. he couldnt create the same angle/torque with his body because of his knee. i saw a couple breakdowns and they were showing his body angles from two years ago on similar plays to this year and it wasnt even close. if he is healthy i do think he could have another monster year in him, but not for 10 million. joey porter had several good years in miami after leaving if i remember correctly
-
Automatik10 mil is laughable.
I just want a quick decision and then move on to the draft. I haven't really been keeping up with who they are targeting. -
BR1986FB
No speculation. Thomas is one of the greats, all-time, at his position. Not even comparable? Steeler fans would have a major "chub" if they had a left tackle HALF as good as Thomas to protect their oft-injured $100 million investment.Automatik;1402633 wrote:Speculation, not even comparable. AutomatikI never said anything about wanting Thomas, he's a great player.
But until he accomplishes similar accolades as Harrison, AS A BROWN, you can't even compare....at all. End of discussion. -

Joe Thomas. A very good player, a great player actually. HOF caliber? If he keeps it up probably so. I loved how he skipp;ed the draft to go fishing or hunting.BR1986FB;1402627 wrote:Joe Thomas, Hall of Famer in waiting. Will Harrison make the Hall? I'm very skeptical.
Through no fault of his own though...the browns offense has been atrocious. WIthout him would it have been much worse? -

Ha..."end of discussion?"
The only time Thomas missed the Pro Bowl/All Pro status was his rookie year and that was because Ogden, who played less than half a season, got in on the "good old boy network" vote. Thomas has had more of his share of 'accolades" and is considered the best at his position in the league. Same can't be said for Harrison (maybe one year). -

Yeah, he's HOF caliber. It's unfortunate he's had to play for such craptastic teams.thavoice;1402645 wrote:Joe Thomas. A very good player, a great player actually. HOF caliber? If he keeps it up probably so. I loved how he skipp;ed the draft to go fishing or hunting.

Gblock[LEFT]The clock is ticking. Negotiations between the Steelers and the agent for James Harrison continue, but neither side has found anything to their liking on a new deal, increasing the chances that the star outside linebacker could be released soon. ... [Harrison] has two years left on a contract that is scheduled to pay him a $6.57 million salary this season. Bill Parise, Harrison's agent and a Beaver County resident, declined comment other than to say, "We absolutely want to do this, we absolutely want to be in Pittsburgh." The Steelers want him to take a pay cut, a source familiar with the negotiations said, but the sides cannot agree on just how that would work in a new deal. Harrison also has a salary for 2014 at $7,575,000.

AutomatikWilliam Gay could have not come back.

Steelers usually aren't FA players, and this yr because of resigning some of their players to ridiculous deals they don't have cap room to sign any FAs.Automatik;1402636 wrote:10 mil is laughable.

Yeah, they are having a hard time keeping their own guys, not sure how they can make a play in FA.Commander of Awesome;1402675 wrote:Steelers usually aren't FA players, and this yr because of resigning some of their players to ridiculous deals they don't have cap room to sign any FAs. -
AutomatikI don't expect to sign any FAs.
I see Kenny Vaccaro, SS out of Texas showing up on some mocks for their first pick. I'm cool with defense in the first (and second), preferably secondary. -
Commander of AwesomeYeah I really like Vaccaro. He's #5 on my wishlist for the Browns at #6
-
AutomatikHe won't be there, but I'm a big fan of Dee Milliner. I think he's gonna be a good one, he killed it at the combine.
