  What about NHL fans from Ohio, who grew up loving hockey, but grew allegiance to another team b/c Ohio didn't have a Hockey team? Do they need to immediately jump on the Blue Jacket train? What if, say, the Blue Jackets won the Stanley Cup in their inaugural season? Wouldn't that be more fitting of a "bandwagon fan," if said fan started rooting for them after said inaugural season?

  I just skimmed what you wrote. If they became fans in the inaugural season, I wouldn't consider them bandwagon fans regardless of how well the team did. If they jumped ship after they noticed they were making a Stanley Cup run (i.e. not hockey, but washington nats "fans" did it this year), then i would consider them bandwagon fans.
