2013 Cleveland Browns Thread: RIP Chud

If not this draft, next year for sure. And it better not be a baptism by fire. I want my QB to be comfortable with the offense before he becomes a starter.
Agreed. I'm hoping Weeden can take off and have the job for the next 3-5 years but they need to look for his eventual replacement. Give him 2013, if he doesn't progress...draft a QB in the 2014 draft, which is looking like a better QB draft anyway.

Looks like Lombardi getting back into the league after 5 years out has inspired someone else to try and make a comeback.

Lombardi is probably licking his chops with this news. ;)

Am I the only one who doesn't have a problem with a front office and coach that want to have a collaborative effort?

The media(esp TONY GROSSI) seems real butt hurt by this...is it because they won't have a single person to blame, instead they(the media) will be forced to either dig deep or blame the group as a whole? As long as the owner knows who to blame all I care about is fucking results.

I'm hitching my wagon to this group. A young offensive mind surrounded by guys with a chip on their shoulder..sure beats the football genius collecting 5 mill a year with no responsibilities.

People are butt hurt because this whole thing has been a sham for Joe Banner to grab power for himself. He is not a football guy, and shouldn't be anywhere near the talent evaluation part of the equation. He is a bean counter.

Yet he is so desperate for power he re-drew the org chart to make sure he was going to be a talent evaluator, and made sure not to hire too strong a coach or GM that would have cut him out of the equation.

He basically set up a system to ensure what happened to him in Philly didn't happen to him here where he was pushed out in a power struggle by the head coach.

Where you see a collaborative approach, many of us see a butt hurt troll who is intent on showing the world he is a talent evaluator and not a bean counter.

    Color me skeptical.

What are some of the better QB's that should be coming out in '14?

Cleveland media does two things: beg for change and bitch about changes. They don't do research, they argue based on opinion and emotion.

When was Joe Banner in Philly?

My only concern with the groupthink mentality is that they gave the impression that if there wasn't a consensus, they'd go to a "plan B." For instance, if Chud & the coaches like a player in the draft that fits their system and Lombardi/Banner don't like him, they could pass on a stud for a lesser player. That's my only concern with it.

Banner shouldn't be making personnel decisions. It's just not his thing. I'll give Lombardi a chance but he's had 20+ years of poor talent evaluation. It's not like he's failed in only one position. Plus, if not for his buddy (Banner), he's probably still looking for a job in the league.

I'm pretty optimistic about this coaching staff. I'm just hoping the front office will get them the players they need and they're not in "coaching them up" mode again.

    Lombardi sucks, plain and simple.

Not a fan but I'm hoping he won't have a ton of influence. If it comes down to Banner or Lombardi making the decision, Lombardi would be the lesser of two evils.

The one comparing Haslam to Synder? Would suck if true, but I'm waiting to see before I get all bent out of shape.

Yeah, with the way Haslam said he was planning on using the 'Steeler model', I find it hard to believe that he'll go crazy and try to buy a championship (through free agency) ala Dan Snyder. Jimmy Jones, maybe, but not Snyder.

LOL here we go again. New organization is doomed before a move has even been made.

actually i think that Grimm was the frontrunner for the job until tomlin made a big impression on his interview

at a quick first thought, cant think of anybody besides Bridgewater and Manziel, and both of them will only be in their third year. Not a fan of Boyd really.

After the initial shock wore off , I always revert to my wait and see attitude. I like the coaching hires, not sold on the front office but I am willing to wait it out and see how they do. I took the

same approach with the Holmgren hire, keeping Mangini an extra year, the Shurmur hire etc that I didnt agree with.

BTW.......What is all this Tyler Wilson QB rumors I am hearing?

What are the odds we try to trade down to pick up a second rounder?

if the browns let go the guy they started in the last game i hope the steelers bring him into camp to compete for the back up job..i thought he looked good considering the situation and and lack of reps all year

I would love to get a shot at drafting Wilson, but I'm not sure how far I would move down to get him, maybe the 10-15 range.

Saw a mock that had the Browns taking Wilson at 6. Then again, this was the same cat who was slobbering all over the Lombardi hire.

I'm willing to wait & see on this front office but I'm pretty skeptical. Lombardi has a 20+ year record of poor talent evaluating. We'll see....
