Jay Glazer reporting Zimmer to interview with Browns.

If they hire him, they better find a hell of an OC.

Jay Glazer ‏@JayGlazer Browns are bringing in Bengals DC Mike Zimmer for an interview later today for their head coach opening. Really like this fit for them.

No not Zimmer. Don't take Zimmer from us.

You all are forgetting one important fact...

HE IS THE CHIN! HE KNOWS HOW TO WIN!

Okay it took some digging but I found it. Again completely speculative.. if Zimmer is hired look for Hue Jackson to be hired as the OC. Jackson was the Wide Receivers coach in Atlanta while Zimmer served as DC. After serving as OC at Baltimore and Oakland, Jackson served a year as HC of the Raiders where he failed and ended up in... that's right Cincinnati under Zimmer as the Secondary coach. Tell me why a coach with zero defensive experience ends up on a defensive staff. Zimmer clearly thinks highly of him

I don't pretend to know a lot, but can someone explain to me why Whisenhunt isn't being talked about much for HC job anywhere? He had a couple tough years in Arizona, but look at what he had to play with. When he had some weapons he had his team within seconds of winning the Super Bowl.

Honestly, I don't know. Don't hear much about either he or Lovie Smith

And he round the 4-3 what's his age?

Hue Jackson had a some what good offense in Oakland if I remember correctly

    BR's boy is back!

Fred Greetham ‏@FredGreethamOBR #Browns signed WR Carlton Mitchell to a reserve/future contract. Curious because he was Heckert draft pick. Spent short time with Jags

Chud fits the bill. Toledo native. Two stints in cleveland. 44 years young. Am I crazy to say there's still something about him that I just don't like?

No it's called 2008 version of Chud. No thanks if that is what he brings. 2007?

A lot of the Panthers struggles this year was them trying to be too cute with Cam Newton and install a read-option offense. You see Seattle and Washington dabble in it but I'm talking the Panthers tried to fully commit to that up until the game against the Bears in November. It finally clicked that they had to play more prostyle and use the read-option sparingly and that's when the Panthers offense started to be successful. I'm not a huge Chud fan but I think he's proven to be a capable OC. Something just feels kind of off about the guy to me but he could be a high risk/reward type hire.

As I said before, you don't need an offensive coach to have a good offense. Shurmur was an offensive guy, and the Browns had a piss poor offense. Out of all the candidates Zimmer has been the most consistent.

This. If you know offense, you know defense. If you know defense, you know offense. It won't be to the same lengths, but the knowledge is there. A HC just needs to be a leader, see the 3 phases as a whole, and hold the coordinator accountable. I've always been a fan of a HC who is the overseer, not a play caller. Which is why I hate Garrett calling plays in Dallas(don't mean to derail, just similar to your point with Shurmur).

couldnt agree more. People put too much stock into if a HC is defensive or offensive minded. I want a leader.

Most people thought the Bengals brought in Hue Jackson as a OC in waiting because many people believed Jay Gruden would get a HC job after this season so I'm not sure if it was Zimmer who brought him back to Cincy.

The more I read on Zimmer, the more I want him. Would be a huge culture change from Derpmur.

So would anyone with an IQ above potato. But I agree, Zimmer would be a nice catch.

Ross Tucker ‏@RossTuckerNFL Zimmer reportedly is a bad interviewer b/c he "tells it like it is" which is why he's a great coach & should be hired

He sure does tell it like it is:

Mike Zimmer on Bobby Petrino: "He's a gutless bastard"

Posted by NBC Sports on October 20, 2010, 4:03 PM EST
Let’s just say Bengals defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer doesn’t look back fondly on his days coaching under Bobby Petrino in Atlanta.

    “He’s a gutless bastard. Quote that. I
don’t give a s—,” Zimmer said Wednesday, according to Joe Reedy of the Cincinnati Enquirer.

When Zimmer was told that responsible news organization may not be able to use “bastard,” Zimmer responded:

“How about this, gutless MF. You can use that.” (Awesome. Much appreciated.)

Petrino famously didn’t tell any of his assistants that he was leaving Atlanta for the head coaching job at Arkansas. On Sunday, Zimmer’s Bengals face a Falcons team that has been almost completely remade since 2007, especially on defense.

Meanwhile, the “gutless bastard” has Arkansas back in the top 25 in college football.

    “Woo Pig Sooie!“

UPDATE: More from Zimmer, via Reedy: “[Petrino] is a coward. Put that in quotes. He ruined a bunch of people’s
lives, a bunch of people’s families, kids, because he didn’t have enough
nuts to stay there and finish the job. That’s the truth.”
