Mike Zimmer on Bobby Petrino: "He's a gutless bastard"

Posted by NBC Sports on October 20, 2010, 4:03 PM EST
Let’s just say Bengals defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer doesn’t look back fondly on his days coaching under Bobby Petrino in Atlanta.

    “He’s a gutless bastard. Quote that. I
don’t give a s—,” Zimmer said Wednesday, according to Joe Reedy of the Cincinnati Enquirer.

When Zimmer was told that responsible news organization may not be able to use “bastard,” Zimmer responded:

“How about this, gutless MF. You can use that.” (Awesome. Much appreciated.)

Petrino famously didn’t tell any of his assistants that he was leaving Atlanta for the head coaching job at Arkansas. On Sunday, Zimmer’s Bengals face a Falcons team that has been almost completely remade since 2007, especially on defense.

Meanwhile, the “gutless bastard” has Arkansas back in the top 25 in college football.

    “Woo Pig Sooie!“

UPDATE: More from Zimmer, via Reedy: “[Petrino] is a coward. Put that in quotes. He ruined a bunch of people’s
lives, a bunch of people’s families, kids, because he didn’t have enough
nuts to stay there and finish the job. That’s the truth.”
    Sold. Can he start tomorrow?

Clecnfaimacly speaking, just wanted to point out the HILARIOUS fail this post. Paul Browns coached until 1975. Lombardi? Last coached '69. lolfail

Next time try and know your history, ESP with the Browns and their FUCKING LEGENDARY coach.

Josh Kirkendall reports at 9:50pm that some are speculating that Hugh Jackson could follow Zimmer as the Offensive Coordinator. Who, Josh Kirkendall, Who are speculating? I want you to cite my ridiculous name if you use my research.
CLEconomically Speaking;1361673 wrote:Okay it took some digging but I found it. Again completely speculative.. if Zimmer is hired look for Hue Jackson to be hired as the OC. Jackson was the Wide Receivers coach in Atlanta while Zimmer served as DC. After serving as OC at Baltimore and Oakland, Jackson served a year as HC of the Raiders where he failed and ended up in... that's right Cincinnati under Zimmer as the Secondary coach. Tell me why a coach with zero defensive experience ends up on a defensive staff. Zimmer clearly thinks highly of him

I feel like they are trying to pick the right coach. They want to get it right. But this next coach will be here 4 years. Unless they go 0-16 in back to back years.
  • thavoice
You would think sooner or later they would be able to get it right.

They have had a good enough defense in the last few years to get the job done.

As a steelers fan I hope they always suck, but sooner later ya would think they would be able to bring the right coach and GM in to get that offense right.

No word on any of the interviews. Not sure what theyre waiting on, hope they get the deal with Zimmer done.

I agree. Zimmer has become my favorite to fill the position.

Zimmer seems like he's a great pick. The talking heads have been talking about him as a possible head coach the past couple seasons now. Is any other franchise seriously looking at him for the HC position?
