2013 Cleveland Browns Thread: RIP Chud

  • Commander of Awesome
"BEREA, Ohio -- The Cleveland Browns on Tuesday were awarded Paul Hazel from Jacksonville and Colton Schmidt from San Francisco. The Browns also waived linebacker Kendrick Adams, offensive lineman Dominic Alford, wide receiver Dominique Croom, defensive lineman Nicolas Jean-Baptiste, fullback Owen Marecic, offensive lineman Ryan Miller and tight end Travis Tannahill. In addition, the team placed running back Montario Hardesty on injured reserve and offensive lineman Chris Faulk on reserve/non-football injury."

Don't understand not cutting Hardesty if you're going to IR him. He's in the last yr of his deal I believe and could have been picked up by another squad to play this yr. They're basically fucking him over, I bet his career will be over now.

Quite surprised Marecic was released.

I see Chud changed his mind and will now rest most of the starters against Chicago.

AKA practice hard this week like you are going to play because you might and the day before I'll announce your resting.

Thank god, glad to see Chud doesn't have his head up his ass like Patty boy.

Is this a joke? Shurmur should've probably thrown Weeden out there in that 4th preseason game last year. He might not have looked like total dog shit against the Eagles in the opener.

I think he just meant more in general.

Yeah I meant more general. Don't want Joe GOAThomas, Haden, DQ, Dline, etc out there. No point. Shouldn't risk injury.

Although the defense looked like shit against Indy, I would've liked to have seen the offense have one last tune up prior to Miami.

I agree with sitting Thomas and Haden. I might actually play weeden the first series.

It's not *like this is Brady or Luck. This team isn't good enough yet to start protecting players because the franchise is expected to make a deep playoff run.

Just like with Indy, we're not running our actual packages/showing anything prior to the game, so no point to go out there and run a junk (patty boy) offense.

I agree. It's not like Weeden is an elite QB at this point. Dude is still a second year QB in his second offensive system in two years. He can use as many reps as possible, regardless of how vanilla the scheme may be.
  • Rotinaj
He may not be an elite QB but if he goes down we go from maybe a 7 or 8 win season to probably 3 or 4. Playing 2 series or whatever in the final preseason game isn't going to make him any better.

    The difference between a 7or 8 win season vs a 3 or 4 is what....four draft spots?

The point is, it doesn't really matter right now if you sit or play him. It's not a pressing issue.

If you don't see the difference between a young team with a history of losing winning 8 or 4 games, then I don't know what to tell you.
  • Rotinaj
Sorry, im not thinking about draft spots. Im thinking about how much more enjoyable the team will be for me to watch if they won 8 opposed to 4.

That, and it would be nice for a young team to have something to build on. Can't bank on a team to just one day go from 2-4 wins to playoff contention. Some teams need to go through a natural progression to playoff contention.
  • Con_Alma
I'm not thinking draft spots either. It's the only thing I could think if that was a real difference between the scenarios presented.

The bottom line for me is, play him...don't play him....in the grand scheme of where this team is and where they are trying to get to, it just doesn't matter. Weeden won't be the guy at that position when they take the big step towards playoff wins.
  • BR1986FB
If they only win 7 or 8, I think we see another blowup at the QB spot. He's either going to have to play off the charts or I think they will draft their "QB to be" next April.

I don't disagree with that at all.

Week 4 is for guys fighting for a roster spot and being showcased for trades. How the Jets or Bills haven't called us about Campbell I don't understand. But maybe they will after tomorrow nights game.

    Bingo.

I don't care if we go 8-8 or 4-12 (assuming we miss the playoffs). Both are seasons in which we are watching the playoffs at home.

8-8 will obviously be a more enjoyable season..the end results are the same yet we'll have a worse draft position

    Agreed. I don't want a "tweener" season.
