2013 Cleveland Browns Thread: RIP Chud

  • said_aouita
If Chip does become the Browns coach do you think Cleveland wins more or less games next year?
  • Rotinaj
They will win more next year no matter who the coach is. Easy home schedule and a couple of the bad break losses will turn into wins.

This is my feelings too. I would be cool if they hired him, because IF it works, it'd be incredible to watch in the NFL. But it's a high risk-high reward move, and Cleveland historically doesn't do too well w/ those :(

I just don't think his offense translates well to the NFL.

Complete guess though..I could be 100% wrong
I have to agree with this. For some reason I just don't see Chip being successful in the NFL because of what he does in college. I don't think watching Oregon play is any indication of what his success would be in the NFL. That doesn't mean he can't be, but it won't be by bringing Oregon to Cleveland. If scoring points in college is the criteria, then hire Rich Rodriguez. :)

I would want a proven NFL commodity, if available. I'll be curious what Lovie does with another team. Could he have success in Cleveland? I'm not sure.

The touched on Kelly's transition to the pros during the post game.

Saying he would obviously have to adapt to the NFL game, but bring along aspects of his current system. A young team is a must, which bodes well for Cleveland, but the right pieces need to be in place.

I'd be interested to see him use his ultra fast hurry up in the NFL. Of course you see the hurry up now, but nothing like he runs at Oregon. He gassed the shit out of KSU's D last night. I'd like to see how it would work in the big leagues.

What Chip will bring to the NFL:

    - Uptempo, one-word play calling offense
    - Ability to adapt to personnel. He ran a pass heavy offense at his prior coaching stop in New Hampshire. The school leader in pass attempt, completions, total yards and yards in a season all came from the time Chip was there. Then he moved to Oregon and switched to a record breaking rushing read-option spread.

The guy isn't married to that scheme. He just wants the team to do what maximizes their talents at a frantic pace. It's different but nothing that the Patriots/Saints/Broncos/Seahawks/Colts haven't already started to go to. To me having an adaptable coach is refreshing after Holmgren saying we'd be a WCO team and trying to fit a square peg into a round hole type mentality.

Seeing his NH QB was the the leader in pass attempts, completions, total yards, etc does not make me feel comfortable. That just tells me Trich will be rotting in the backfield once again.

Not the point I was getting at. People keep referencing that he runs the read option in excess at Oregon (truth) and that he'd bring that exact offense to the NFL. The point I was trying to make is he isn't a guy who has coached the read option and that's all he knows. When he was at NH he had a pass heavy offense. He can adapt to the personnel available to him. He's even said it himself which is why I'm shocked people think he'll be a failure because of what Oregon does. He may very well fail but I don't think it'll be because he tries to turn an NFL offense into a strictly read option team.

Here are my worries about Kelly. Speed is what he uses to be successful at Oregon, as his teams have the speed advantage in nearly every game. In the NFL, most all teams are pretty equal in speed, so that advantage is gone. When his Oregon teams have come up against defenses that can match their speed, they tend to struggle.

I think the Browns should just move from the AFC North to the SEC...then we will be faster. Although, not sure that we would have won more games this year....fuck you pat shurmur

What divisions does the AFC North play next year?
  • Automatik
AFC North and NFC North is matched for the full division pairings, not sure on the other.
  • mucalum49
Looks like AFC East also. I just searched for it and found a site that tells you out till 2019. Not sure how accurate it is. Also disregard the conference names under the schedule each year. Even though it shows AFC East and NFC North for 2013 I'm not sure why it says "AFC South" and "AFC West".

You hardly post in this thread. We seriously do not need any of your over regulation. We can regulate our own threads, thanks.

No one comes on this thread other than browns fans and trolls...if we call a troll a "bad name" who cares? It'll just eliminate the problem: trolls.

I don't post hardly either, but I read just above everything in this thread. People, including yourself, complain about trolling, and this is the attempt to curb that. You "regulate" the threads by name calling, more trolling, and side railing the discussion. Thats not really acceptable.

Neither post by jordo or Ty Webb were trolling, and they were immediately attacked. This isn't "your" thread, and they both have a right to their opinions as well.

No they don't. Their history/reputation speaks for itself.
