Tribe Spring Training 2012

  • HitsRus
As requested by Iggy...the 'stove' is shut down. Tribe pitchers and catchers are reporting today.... Physicals scheduled for tomorrow, and workouts begin on Wednesday.

I must say it was a pretty disappointing off season no matter how the front office tries to spin it. (Bob Dibiasio has the toughest job in the world). Lowe and Slowey were acquired to replace Carrasco and Carmona (Heredia) in the rotation. Casey Kotchman (who is neither a power hitter nor right handed) was acquired to address the offense which needed a power right handed stick. While we seem stuck in neutral, the Kittys went out and got Prince Fielder. I'm not feeling it for this year.

Just to start things on the wrong foot...The 'details' are still being worked out with Jon Garland...so he is not expected to report until they are.

More than anything, I love to hear the front office people try to spin this shitty offseason. I know Laley's buddy Bob can't believe what he has to say to the media....lol

I hope that one of these years he just doesn't give a fuck and says what everyone knows he is thinking..."my employer is a god damn cheapass..what can I say" lol

MARCEL projection system (as of January 28th) had the Indians going 83-79 and finishing 1 game behind Detroit in the division, reaching the playoffs 41% of the time.

I know I'm biased but no way do the Tigers, barring major injuries, go 84-78

Injuries happen and there pitching staff isn't the greatest, fister is the x factor. I think v mart is a bigger lost than people think.

It's got the best guy in the MLB and a great #2 in Doug Fister. Scherzer, Porcello, Turner are solid guys as well. And they've essentially replaced VMart with Prince:huh: How the heck is that a loss. This was a 95 win team last year folks
  • Crimson streak
I'm saying v mart was very very important to the tigers with his timely hitting. He led the league in 2 out rbis. He was a great player to put behind mags. And like I said verlander really carried the staff last year till fister came, but can fister repeat last year is a big question. I'm not ready to crown the tigers as division champs just yet. Also the fact fielder is coming to the al from the nl could have a big factor also.

Can he repeat? The dude has been coming along great, he was tearing it up in Seattle but no one heard of him because it was Seattle and they had no offense. He had a 2.83 ERA and got stronger as the year went on and is projected to be big this season as well.

Also he was behind Cabrera not Ordonez:huh: And come on Prince Fielder is a definite upgrade from VMart, you're just by 2011 #'s getting 26 more HR's and 17 more RBI's. And with Jackson-Boesch-Cabrera ahead of him expect even more RBI chances this season. Obviously they have to play the games but this is a Detroit team who won the AL Central by 15 games last year and has went out and improved

I meant Cabrera not mags. And fister has done it what 1 year? So did fausto. The al game is a lot different than the nl. Prince could struggle with the switch. All I'm saying is I'm not ready to crown them. Baseball is a tricky game, he'll the tribes offense can be good this year and along with pitching who knows.

I think he is a huge upgrade as well. But I honestly dont see many more RBIs this year. HRs will be down in Comerica. RBIs will be the same imo. Miggy is a slightly better hitter than Braun, but its negligible. Id take the top of Milwaukees offense last year (top 3) over Detroits this year. Plus, If Cabrera hits a single, he aint scoring unless Prince knocks it out. That very well take away from some RBIs. Not saying he isnt an upgrade, he is a huge upgrade. But not sure the top 3 in front of him are any better than in Milwaukee.

I agree that team speed may be an issue for Detroit. Fielder, Peralta and Miggy are not the fastest guys on the track...although JP is a smart runner.

Nothing will beat the bases loaded time for the Tribe.

Peralta on 3rd, Victor on 2nd, Pronk on 1st, Garko at bat. Probably 3 of the slowest 15 players in baseball, and probably the slowest SS in baseball lol.

Heard today on the radio Garland still has not passed his physical.

Agree on the Dibiasio front, he seems like a really nice guy, but I get these visions of Baghdad Bob when he is trying to do his Dolan Spin.

...and Manny Ramirez has signed with the Oakland A's. Not that we needed a right handed power stick or anything.....

Rather than talk about the team, Bobby D wil tout the new offerings at the various Progressive Field food stands, and the new attractions in and around the ballpark.

It's about all they have to sell to the fans.

Everything will be rosy until the day after opening day. Then the sub-12,000 Tuesday night crowds will show up, and it will be 2011 all over again.

Where is the best place for an i-phone holder to keep up with spring training news?? i could not find an app for the Tribe. I did the Cleveland.com that the PD has, but was just wondering where you all keep up with the latest of the tribe on a mobile device?

I loved his interview on WKNR...that is all he talked about...lulz. The Dolans have him on a tight leash.

Antonetti went dumpster diving again today signing Cristian Guzman as a utility infielder. He didn't play last season, and last played for the Nationals.

These signings don't really mean anything, but I just think it says alot about where the franchise is that we are relegated to guys who can't pass physicals (Garland) and guys who weren't in the league last year (Guzman).

Greg Brinda always talks about Dolan only letting his GM's shop at Big Lots for free agents, but now it is like we are shopping in the "free" section of craigslist where people put their worst junk just hoping someone will haul it away.

As a life long tribe fan. I feel its worth saying you let me down now vs waiting till June to say it

But Manny wasn't good enough to look at....SMH

I will try to get everybody's hopes up. Hopefully this is true. A 100% Ubaldo and Masterson is a very good 1-2 at the top of any rotation.

Cleveland Indians @tribeinsider Ubaldo told me today he has put on 8lbs of muscle & has never felt better entering a season. Said spring groin injury LY affected him all yr

If jimenez is healthy and his mechanics are fixed we could have the best 1-2 in the al

They would be up there. But I would definitely take Weaver/Haren and Price/Shields first. Maybe even Verlander/Fister if Fister is solid again.
