Hopefully Duncan's spring performance will result in him only being sent down once or twice this year.royal_k;1118179 wrote:Duncan went deep again...3 HR and 10 RBI now. -

HitsRusTravis Hafner broke out of his slump and had 4 hits yesterday to raise his BA to .318 in 22 AB's. Hafner has 1 HR...his only RBI of the spring.
Shelly Duncan and Sin soo Choo have supplied about half the HR power of the offense Tribe this spring, contributing 3 and 2 HRs respectively....of the team' s 11 spring round trippers. Jose Lopez (not expected to make the team at the beginning of the spring) has 2 of the other HRs. Lopez also leads the team in BA(9-17).
By contrast, the Angels, who the Tribe played yesterday have 16 dingers. The Tribe's Central Division rivals, the Tigers, already have 20. The othe central rivals...KC has 12...Minnesota 10...and the White Sox 9.
Looks like the team is well positioned for another run a second place. -

HitsRus^^^Oh, c'mon. We've added a lot of depth in the off season...I know I'm a homer, but 2nd is not out of the question. Who needs a right handed power stick anyway.

FootwedgeSMH. Pomeranz and White for this? Tribe management should be ashamed of themselves for dealing these 2 top prospects for a guy who has a proven track record of mediocrity.
http://www.cleveland.com/tribe/index.ssf/2012/03/ubaldo_jimenez_takes_his_lumps.html -
MulvaHe's better than mediocre, but he's not an ace. People immediately think of his start to 2010 and ignore his other 3.5 MLB seasons. He's been solid for most of his career. But not spectacular.
9 walks in 9.2 innings is definitely a concern though, even in spring training.
It's weird to me that the season is 2 weeks away. The only time I can ever remember being this unexcited for a season to start was 2003. -
HitsRus^^^^Yeah....I've got the electric ethusiasm of a single LED crystal...and I'm a lifelong diehard. I don't know how Bobby D. can stand his job. The front office gives him absolutely nothing he can run with and promote. Really...nobody gives a shit about bobbleheads....and a whole season of 'Snow Days', doesn't come close to a single sold out series for 1st place.
Yeah...I keep hearing them talk optimistically abot Ubaldo...but I haven't seen anything. Chris Antonetti's sunglasses have to be rose colored....or they are just hoping and praying they didn't make a(another...see Matt Laporta) huge mistake. -
royal_kHoping that the Ubaldo trade doesn't go down as one of the worst in modern times. Because it looks like it may.

Turrible. Not saying White or Pomerantz are going to turn into HOFer's but knew this guy was a stiff coming in here. Traded two potential young guns for Fausto Jr.royal_k;1121098 wrote:Hoping that the Ubaldo trade doesn't go down as one of the worst in modern times. Because it looks like it may. -

At this point it would take just one of those guys being legit for the trade to be a bad one. Because he looks like nothing more than a #3 or #4 starter.BR1986FB;1121099 wrote:Turrible. HitsRusOn a brighter note...my season tickets came in the mail today....usually opening the package gets me psyched for the season.
here we go....riiipppp.....I always like to see who they feature on the tickets.
This year it is Masterson, Choo, Chris Perez, Druby, Acta????(WTF..the manager?), Santana, Pronk, Grady, and Ubaldo.
9 different pictures...I think that is the most different ones I can remember. -
lhslep134First of all, I don't think we need to repost the yahoo article correctly pointing out the low success rate of pitching prospects who have been traded. Secondly, we don't need to worry about throwing Ubaldo up against any other teams #1s if he's really not "that good" because Masterson is a legit #1 and Ubaldo is a hell of a #2.
EDIT: for those who haven't read the article http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=jp-passan_indians_rockies_jimenez_prospects_073111 ----read it, then try and convince me it was a bad trade -

Ubaldo blows. I hope this gets blown up around the city media, because it is just heinous.
They cry poor like there is no tomorrow, but lead the league in operating income.
This is exhibit A of why the Dolan's are never going to sell the team. It is a cash cow for their family, and they could care less about winning as long as the checks keep rolling in. -
hoops23Don't know if anybody knows, but Mark Shapiro was supposedly on the radio and mentioned that Dolan isn't shopping the team, but is willing to listen to offers.
With the contract situation and Shapiro letting that out, it almost seems like Dolan has been setting this up to sell the team.
I could only dream of Cuban and Gilbert owning the Tribe and pretty much owning Cleveland with it.
As for the Ubaldo talk, Alex White certainly hasn't been anything I've missed. He got rocked with Colorado (pun not intended) and he gets busted for a DUI this offseason. In fact, it was labeled as an "extreme DUI" by the Denver media. -
royal_kI realize it's just spring training. But these numbers are not good.
9.2 IP
15 Hits
14 Runs
9 BB
6 SO
These are Ubaldo's numbers and in his last start he was topping out at 91 to 92 MPH. He should get 3 more starts before the season starts. Hopefully he turns things around. -
IggyPride00
Many Acta as been trying to say it is 94-96, but even then he has a clear decrease in velocity that should be somewhat alarming this late into spring training.in his last start he was topping out at 91 to 92 MPH. -
royal_k
What I heard was he was hitting mid 90s in his first 3 starts and dropped all the way to 91 to 92. That is very alarming, considering he is supposed to be healthy now. What happened to 96-98?IggyPride00;1123837 wrote:Many Acta as been trying to say it is 94-96, but even then he has a clear decrease in velocity that should be somewhat alarming this late into spring training. -

If his velocity is in the low 90's...they should shut him down now because there is something wrong with his elbow or shoulder. He was 96-97 (allegedly) just 2 weeks ago and he was saying this was the best he has ever felt in spring.royal_k;1123853 wrote:What I heard was he was hitting mid 90s in his first 3 starts and dropped all the way to 91 to 92. Yeah, the one start I saw of him he was hitting 95+ consistently with the fastball and everybody was talking about how healthy he was.TBone14;1123988 wrote:If his velocity is in the low 90's...they should shut him down now because there is something wrong with his elbow or shoulder.
