    Did you mean fined?

5 games is not bad, its just one start.

It should(meaning because it was given already) be 5 starts. I hate that pitchers get games as a suspension.

Reports are that the Reds and Joey Votto are close to an extension that would pay him almost $200 million dollars.

If that is the case, what is the Dolans excuse going to be for why we can't add talent or afford to keep our stars when Cincinnati can do it and that is anything but a large market in our own state.

The Pronk contract was considered going above and beyond by ownership at $64 million. They really need to sell the team pronto when the Reds of all teams can make it work and we are still sitting here crying poor.

I agree. Never understood that. Oh man, instead of sitting in the dugout during their off days, the pitchers get to stay at home and relax. Hell, if it wasn't for the one missed start, that is a great deal for all pitchers.

Edit: Just for the record I don't think Ubaldo should be suspended for 5 starts, but when the MLB suspends starting pitchers, they need to consider the fact 5 games doesn't mean shit.

    Lol yah my bad.

If he appeals the suspension then he should be able to pitch the second game and then they can re-order the rotation around the early off-days. I know Gomez was scheduled to pitch until around the 15th so he might just pitch earlier then that.

Jimenez was wild as hell plus a gale wind was blowing. IMO a bullshit suspension. ...and 1 start is more than enough.

Terrible suspension. He had already walked 5 guys so there is no real proof it was on purpose.

Selig was swayed by the media in this one. Players are hit all the time with no suspensions. How many Indians have been hit in the last two season with no penalty to the opposition?

Manny Acta basically accused him of this. Said last year's incident with Fausto and Mark Teixera was worse and Fausto only got fined.

I don't think they beat Romero on Thursday but they will be ready to go. Let's let games that actually matter be played before we start getting too worried. Many baseball writers have the Tribe picked as a sleeper type team. I have high hopes and don't think the Tigers are going to be the '27 Yankees. I don't see Fielder matching his numbers from last year without getting to the play the Cubs, Pirates and Astros 55 times.

A small sample of Spring Training meaning absolutely nothing.

Royals had the best winning % in Spring Training last year. Didn't mean anything.
Twins went 20-12. Best record in the Grapefruit League. Finished last in the Central.
Arizona had the 2nd worst record all spring. 12-25. Won the NL West and nearly played .600 baseball.
Yankees and Red Sox were both under .500.

Spring Training 2010 the Tribe went 19-9. How did that work out for us?
The Rangers, losers to the Giants in the World Series, were a Catcus league worst 10-19.

Just like the NFL Preseason..it doesn't matter. The players don't even take it seriously.

You ever go to bar and play pool or darts for money? Or even a summertime Cornhole tournament. You are running the table/boards. 5/10/20 bucks a game. Next guy up says..oh..I don't play for money. So you play him but you just don't have the focus. It doesn't mean anything to you. That's Spring Training to MLB players.
The only thing I agree with you here is that the games don't count in the standings. For many, these games determine whether a guy will be making 50K this year or 1.5 million next year...or more. They are all playing for field time...and if you stink up the joint...you won't have the opportunity to play...and put up numbers...which equates to big money.

Bleacher seats listed for as low as $3 already for the Easter game. I may buy them and just stand out at the CF bar.

Just my opinion, obviously....but from what I've read....I think Ubaldo deliberately hit Tulo. The Rocky manager, who coached this guy for years, built a strong case against Ubaldo.

    He sold me.

As an aside...given Ubaldo's numbers this spring, maybe a suspension will give us a better chance to win.
  • grodt
You mean the manager of the guy that got hit thought it was intentional. Shocking.

Acta also pointed out that Ubaldo had just walked someone and didn't have much command (see 5 total walks). I have no idea if it was intentional or not but it'd be pretty stupid if it was.

I base it on the history here more than anything. And yes, pretty strong words from the manager...who coached the guy for 5 years. Maybe he knows more about the character of Ubaldo than you and me. There definitely was motive...that's not debatable.

You make it sound like every manager always blames the pitcher for intentionally hitting their player and that's not the case.

Hopefully this lit a fire under the team and Ubaldo's ass. All Cleveland teams are loaded with gutless pussies with no "fire" or aggression. Maybe Ubaldo's teammates see this and rally around it? Doubtful but one can hope...

They don't always, but when there is an altercation the manager will go to bat for his own player. Sure there was motive...doesn't mean there was intent.

Also, the guy calling Ubaldo "classless" is the same guy who sent him out to pitch the day he got traded.

the first of many long and disappointing threads.

That's one good thing about being a Pirates fan here. Not that many people to talk baseball with, so it just turns into one very long and very disappointing thread that lasts all season long. It's best to keep all the sadness confined to one location.

You seem to be the most optimistic, so why don't you start the season off for us.

    What a joke.

Our big free agent signing of the off-season is basically out for a 1/3 of the year at a minimum. Typical for this organization though.

It is unconscionable to me they did nothing to help this offense this off-season with how bad it was last year.
  • wes_mantooth
LOL..it is crazy that no Indians fan really wanted Grady back, yet they overpay him. Everyone but our dumbass front office knew this would happen.

I'm not sure what to think about this team. You have freaking Shelly Duncan leading spring training in HR and RBI. And the pitching was absolutely horrendous. I just want another competitive season. Been watching some Hamilton calls on youtube to get back into the swing of things. Half a day at work tomorrow, then drinking at noon and heading to the ballpark. Terrible seats, but worth it for my first opening day!!
