2012 Cleveland Browns thread: AKA Pat Shurmur Memorial thread

dazedconfusedit seems like the browns hire a new "president type" about once a month
-
MulvaI think banner knows what he's doing.
-
Midstate01I like Heckert. Don't wanna see him go. But I don't care as long as the next guy continues things in the direction they've been going.

IggyPride00McDaniels would "Jump" at chance to coach Browns according to report.

Commander of Awesome
Sure he would. Only 32 HC jobs available. Which makes failing so hard for so long at finding a good one "mind boggling".IggyPride00;1347312 wrote:McDaniels would "Jump" at chance to coach Browns according to report.

Probably not. Known as the Turdo move.SportsAndLady;1347315 wrote:Not going to answer my posts directed to you? -
SportsAndLady"*insert good coach* would jump at the chance to coach the Browns."
^Good.
"*insert bad coach* would jump at the chance to coach the Browns."
^Bad. -
like_thatI bet none of the names that have been mentioned will be a Browns HC. I think we will get somebody we did not expect at all, just like Shurmur, except hopefully he isn't an ass clown.
-
bases_loadedI think McDaniels will have success in his next job. He made alot if mistakes in his first but part of it was having too much power. You're doing something right when the Hoodie wants you back immediately.
-
RotinajMcdaniels wouldn't be my first choice but at least the guy isn't a legit dumbass like Shurmur.

http://www.boston.com/sports/football/patriots/extra_points/2012/12/will_mcdaniels.htmlOne more log to throw on the fire: those two initial sources said that if Lombardi and McDaniels indeed team up in Cleveland, the chances are good that they will attempt to trade for Patriots backup quarterback Ryan Mallett and install him as the franchise quarterback. Brandon Weeden would be out, or in a backup role. -
Commander of Awesomelol this gets better and better. Ryan Mallet!!! The Savior! Answer to our Prayers!!! /sarcasm.
Remember the last back up Pats QB that was traded to be starting QB? Yikes. -
RotinajI don't see Mallet being any worse than Weeden but I don't think his ceiling is much higher.

I was waiting for the first person to say this. There are more coaches who have failed their 2nd time around than not.bases_loaded;1347351 wrote:I think McDaniels will have success in his next job. dazedconfusedi have such a nervous pessimism when it comes to banner. he seems to be all "football decision power happy" right now and that isnt good
-
IggyPride00
Yeah. If he was coming in to do what he did in Philly (cap/numbers guy) I would feel much better about him. Sadly he seems hell bent on making football decisions because I think he was jealous he was never given the recognition in Philly he thought he deserved for their success- largely because he wasn't in on the personnel decisions for the most part.dazedconfused;1347387 wrote:i have such a nervous optimism when it comes to banner. he seems to be all "football decision power happy" right now -

Iggy is already worried, you don't need to worry him any further.dazedconfused;1347387 wrote:i have such a nervous pessimism when it comes to banner. he seems to be all "football decision power happy" right now and that isnt good -
Pick6Im actually a fan of Mallet. Say the scenario did happen, at least he would be in the same system that he has shown potential in. Unlike Cassel who went to into a new system.
-
royal_kGotta love all of these rumors.
And not a fan of Mallet either. -
Pick6The chances of Chip coming to the NFL may have just increased

MulvaUnless mallett is a very different player now than he was at Arkansas, then he basically is weeden. Big arm, questionable decisions, no mobility, accuracy issues.
I'm down with mcdaniels though, as I said a few weeks back. Really want an offensive coach with some pedigree. -
zach24ozAt least McDaniels would open up the play book more and actually have Weeden in the shotgun(assuming he's still here next year) but that's how Weeden and Mallet were sucessful in college...by passing out of the gun. And have sets of Gordon, Little, Benjamin, Cameron and whoever else at the wr slot and with T Rich in the backfield. It would be nice to turn Benjamin into a guy like Wes Welker...someone we can throw screens for and get him mismatched on slower defenders. I would think that in the draft we would be targeting a guy like Milliner from Bama or a LB. But I really think we need to pair Haden with a younger soon to be "stud" because Brown and Skrine wont get it done. We should be looking into safeties also...Ward's a good SS but not so good in coverage and he gets injured quite a bit.

Hmm...
Looks like another one of those "coach leaves town one step ahead of NCAA investigators" stories. You know, like "why in the world would Pete Carroll leave USC, where he was king of the state?" all over again. Let's say Kelly decides it's time for him to give the NFL a try. I wonder if Goodell would suspend Kelly if it is determined that Oregon was cheating. We all know he set the precedent.
