Rumors abound that Wisniewski has signed with CBJ .. no idea on the terms of the deal. Very very good offseason for the Jackets if it's true. Still have some holes to fill but getting a #1 center and a very good PP d-man is a great start.

Wisniewski left with a contract in hand but hasn't signed. Looks like it'll go down to the wire.

Ehrhoff just signed with Buffalo, hearing 10 years, $40 million. Expect Wisniewski will be higher per year with a shorter contract - thinking $30 million for 6 years - because Ehrhoff's contract is probably front loaded.

Saw this one over on HFBoards:

I can't believe he signed for that many years and that low of a cap hit.

Crazy, right? He's already 29. The contract must pay him $5-$6 million for the first 5-6 years and progressively less after. That's a long time to ink a guy like that.

I hate deals that are 10yrs plus.

All it does it circumvent the cap.

The Jaromir Jagr saga has a pretty good chance of stretching into Friday.

Penguins general manager Ray Shero said early this evening that, while he did not rule out Jagr selecting a team this evening, it might not happen until morning.

    Or later.

"Jagr's decision is going to be his decision," Shero said. "I assume he's going to make his decision before noon tomorrow."

He added that agent Petr Svoboda told him in late afternoon that, "Pittsburgh is still very much in the picture" for Jagr.

The Penguins offered Jagr a one-year contract Tuesday and have not, Shero said, altered its terms, and do not have any plans to do so.

The proposal, he added, does not include any incentives to go along with the base salary being offered.

Jagr is believed to have received proposals from Montreal and Detroit, and perhaps a few other clubs.

    Ehrhoff's contract:

    TSNBobMcKenzie Bob McKenzie
    Year 1: $8M signing bonus, $2M salary; Year 2: $5M SB, $3M sal. That's $18M in 1st 2 yrs, or $15M before puck drops on 12-13 season. #tsn

    Year 3: $4M; Year 4: $4M, Year 5: $4M; Year 6: $4M; Year 7: $3M; Year 8; $1M; Year 9: $1M, Year 10: $1M. Modified NTC. Cap hit=$4M/yr. #tsn

What a joke, new CBA has to fix that.

It benefits the players and the owners though, so I don't know why they would really want to change it.

The players get paid up-front and the owners have less of a commitment further down the road when the competitive landscape of their team might be different in 4-5 years versus 1-2.

Wish I had something to contribute, but Jim Rutherford and my beloved Canes are so quiet in the off-seasons it is hardly worth mentioning.

Eric Cole may or may not sign, that is about it from Raleigh.

Not sure...it's great for owners of the team that circumvents the cap, but if Ehrhoff retires at 35 ... six years from now ... he will have been paid $5.7 million for each season, with a $4 million cap hit. Other owners won't be happy about it...or, other owners will have to do the same and sign ludicrously long contracts.

Down to the wire here. A couple optimistic tweets re: Wiz this morning. Hopefully at least he's signed before noon, even if Hejda isn't.

    UPDATE: http://twitter.com/#!/Aportzline/status/86806882861330432
Sources tell The Dispatch that #CBJ are close on a deal with D James Wisniewski, but that talks with D Jan Hejda have broken off w/o a deal.

#CBJ sign D James Wisniewski. Six years, $33 million

We got him. Had the feeling we had to go high on costs and we did. $5.5m per.
  • TedSheckler
He would have got close to that in free agency. Good defensemen are thin in this crop of free agents. He would have got paid no matter where he went. Glad the CBJ got him and not Detroit.

I had LOL at the re-signing for Ericsson.

Let's see what I can recap...

Varlamov was traded to Colorado for a 1st and a 2nd round pick
Jovanovski to Florida for 4 years, $4.125m per
Raffi Torres to Phoenix, 2 years, $1.75m per
Upshall to Florida, 4 years, $3.5m per
Hejda to Colorado, 4 years, 3.25m per

Word from the Wiz is that Howson isn't done yet. Let's see Leino sign on the dotted line :)

    Talbot to the Flyers
  • killer_ewok
I don't have any ill will toward Talbot for going elsewhere. Well, except that he is now a Flyer so......

Fuck 'em (but thanks for the memories!!!!!)

    Commodore to the Wings.
