If they can add pieces (backup goalie, puck-moving D man) and Mason can return to form, I think they'd make it. They were 11-4-3 last year against the East, 8-7-3 the year before, 13-3-2 the year before that.

Plus there are other reasons why moving to the East makes sense, not the least of which is having the vast majority of games on in the home time zone.

They would make the playoffs in the East.

If this is their division i doubt it.
    Pittsburgh
    Philadelphia
    Washington
    Columbus
    Carolina
    Florida
    Tampa Bay

Pitt, Philly, Wash, Tampa and Carolina are all better IMO. 3 of those teams have won the cup in the last ten years and all 5 have the capability of making the playoffs in any given year. I just don't think Columbus is good enough to make the playoffs in the NHL. But it's hard to say now that they have Carter playing with Nash. But based on their history i don't see them making the post season.

Hearing Joni Pitkanen is close to re-signing multi-year deal in CAR - not done yet tho - but no real progress on Chad Larose and Erik Cole.
Ehrhoff is going to be a hot hot commodity on Friday.

    Ottawa
    Toronto

Columbus is already better than these teams that are in the EC.

    Just signed.

    3yr/13.5mil deal.

I'm not real keen on that lineup. Columbus wouldn't be either.

Ehrhoff's rights to the Islanders for a 4th rounder:

    Jackets in a hole now.

The Jagr sweepstakes could be over tomorrow. It's expected he'll choose between Pittsburgh, Montreal and Detroit. The Pens have offered a 1 year deal.
  • gorocks99
From what I hear it's a two horse race between Pittsburgh and Montreal; my guess is he ends up with the Pens.

It makes perfect sense for him to come back to the pens!

It's safe to say the East Division is quite possibly the most stacked division in NHL history. I wouldn't be shocked if all 8 made the playoffs in one season in all honesty. Those are some franchises

Yeah it does. Let's hope it happens.

I was commenting on the proposed divisions from a previous post. I still think Carolina and NYR are better but if this was their division i'd say they make the playoffs, but not in a division with pitt, philly, wash, tampa, and carolina.

If Mason can return to form I think the Blue Jackets have a legit shot at making the playoffs. Esp if they're competitive during the season I could see another trade in the works to help the team.

Jackets fans, in order, which of these players would you like to see Columbus sign this offseason (forwards, D and goalie possibilities):

    Christian Ehrhoff
    Tomas Kaberle
    Ales Hemsky
    James Wisniewski
    Josh Harding
    Ray Emery
    Jussi Jokinen

I think they have to make a run at one of the three D men first, assuming Ehrhoff doesn't sign with the NYI. I probably like him the best out of the three but he's going to command a lot of money. Then you can fill a backup goaltender.

Wisniewski is apparently Howson's top target: http://twitter.com/#!/hhr_hockey
