Just looked it up, Carter signed an 11-year deal in November of last year so he's signed through I think the 2021/2022 season, meaning until he's 37 years old. Gotta hope we get 7 good years from 26-33 out of him.

I think the biggest factor was that the locker room probably looked up to Pronger more as a captain rather than Richards. -

Campbell is a bit older, but I like him. Good assist-minded defenseman.
However, he does have a massive contract ($7.1 mil per season, signed prior to the 08/09 season) that I don't really want to be a part of.
Edit: Now there are reports saying Howson is shooting the rumor down.
