2011 Cleveland Cavalier Offseason/Draft

Question for Cavs fans. If Minny takes williams and trades Beasley, would you give up a future first for him? Not sure of his value, but lets say one of Miamis just to begin discussions.
  • Commander of Awesome
I assume you're talking about Beasley and I say no. He's a one way player.
  • SportsAndLady
    No thanks on Beasley

Was kinda pissed when I saw a recent mock having the Cavs taking the other Euro big over Kanter at 4. Can't pronounce his name but it begins with a "V', I believe.

Jonas Valanciunas? I have heard that the Cavs are really high on this guy.

Yeah, that's what I heard as well.. Supposedly they favor his ceiling over Kanters

    SMH
  • Pick6
Kanter is working out for the Cavs today
  • jpake1
He is a one way player, but does have talent. Does he have more than a bottom first rounder? I'd take him while trading a late first easily.

There were reports last week coming out of Golden State that Monta Ellis could be had for a big. Today, Mark Jackson said the #1 thing the GSW will do is play defense. While Ellis is a great offensive player, he is undersized on defense for a 2, and the Warriors seem committed to Stephen Curry at the 1. If you are the Cavs, would you be interested in acquiring him? I would imagine it would have to be for AV. Last trade deadline the GSW were also close to pulling the trigger on Antawn Jamison for Andris Biendrins and a pick. With the Warriors holding the #11 pick in a relatively weak draft, could they combine these w/:

Anderson Varejao ($8mill/year through 2015), Antawn Jamison ($14mill expiring), Ramon Sessions plus a future Heat 1st rounder (likely a late 20's-low 30's pick 3-5 years from now) for:
Monta Ellis ($11 million through 2014), Andris Biendrins($9.5 million though 2014), contract filler, #11 pick

AV is a great defensive player, but he is an energy player nearing 30. I don't think he is going to age well, and the Cavs aren't contending for a title next year. Gives a chance to move him while bringing back a great scoring guard in Monta Ellis. With drafting Kyrie Irving, having BDiddy and Boobie, Sessions would likely get squeezed out of the rotation. You could flip-flop him and Boobie in this deal, I'm just thinking Sessions would give GSW a little of what they lose w/ Ellis.
Biendrins contract is awful, no doubt, but you add the #11 pick this year. They can either take a chance on a wing like Alec Burks/Marshon Brooks/Jordan Hamilton or a Euro Big like Donatas Motiejunas, even one of the Morris twins. Or, package #4 and #11 to move up to #2.

The Cavs core would then be going forward:
    PG - Kyrie Irving
SG - Monta Ellis - dynamic wing scorer/Christian Eyenga possible dynamic wing defender
    SF - ?
    PF - JJ Hickson
    C - #4 pick (Kanter or Jonas)

You can address the other wing position either w/ the TPE or next years first round pick, which should be loaded w/ wing players. And unless the Cavs move the TPE for a guy like Andre Iguodala, that roster still screams top 10 of the NBA lottery for 2012 (if there is even a season). Also, whoever you take at #11 either provides depth at the SF or PF position more than likely. Biendrins is still in his mid 20's, so he can be a serviceable back-up at the center position going forward.

Monta Ellis, hell yeah, who wouldn't want a top 2 NBA player
wrote:“I’m going to say LeBron James(notes) [third],” Ellis said recently. “He can do it all, pass, score, defend, block shots. No. 2, I would have to say, me. I can do a whole lot of things: defend, score, make passes, do whatever I need to do.
“No. 1, I’d say Kobe Bryant. There isn’t one player that can stop Kobe one-on-one. He has a lot of stuff. He can defend. And of course, he won four championships.”

yes, I forgot he said this. Ranks right up w/ this beauty.

"I know I'm the best point guard in the N.B.A." Marbury said. "I don't need anybody else to tell me that."

Ellis obviously isnt a top 2 player lol.

But hes an all star caliber 2 guard, wouldnt be a bad idea to trade an aging energy man for him IMO
  • Jester
As Ellis is one of my favorite players, i'd love to see him in a Cavaliers uniform. The Cavs lacked a scorer/go-to guy last year, and as we all know, the one thing Ellis does a pretty good job of is putting the ball through the hoop.
  • Mulva
    I'd take Monta for sure.
  • Pick6
Was just thinking about this today..the Cavs getting a player that puts up a lot of point but doesnt really get recognized like Ellis or Granger. a consistent scorer is this teams biggest need IMO. I'd like it as long as we dont give away too much
  • jordo212000
If they can get Ellis for Varejao, you do it
  • robj55
Beasley is a guy who can get you 20 and 8 but he's a headcase, Monta Ellis is just a scorer, doesn't pass, doesn't rebound well, undersized 2 and is a below average defender.
  • Hb31187
Cavs need a scorer badly though, like really badly lol. And he averages 6 assists per game at the 2 guard(hes improved his passing the last 2 years), id say thats above average for his position. Hes not gonna be asked to run the point if Cleveland picks up Irving.

    Id go for em

The cavs need a lot so maybe that's a start, a lot of his numbers were inflated due to the system he played in imo

Ellis would be a quick fix to get this team into the playoffs next year maybe, but I think he'd be terrible for the long term development of the team. No thanks.

    edit, wrong thread

    From Draft Express' twitter....
Watching some of the other Kanter games now. Pretty much the same story. Not putting any effort in. Playing zero defense. Not boxing out.
Granted it was a game a year and a half ago, these people know their shit. This would worry me a little bit.

Also, on Dan Patrick's show on Monday, while interviewing Amare, he mentioned that Nash was rumored to be involved in a deal for the number 2 pick. Someone reaaaallly wants Derrick Williams. But why Phoenix?
