Cleveland Browns 2011 Super Awesome In-Season Thread

Commander of Awesomelol like I respect anything Mike Maylock thinks.

BR1986FBI actually like Mayock the most but I figured I'd post something in support of McCoy to be fair. Don't necessarily agree but I wanted to post it. But this posted below IS a fact and is NOT Colt McCoy...
"I'm a big believer that in the AFC North, you've got to have a quarterback who can hold up in the bad weather," he said. "Let's face it, the last couple of games by the Browns have been in tough weather, cold, rain or whatever. You have to have a quarterback with a big-enough arm that can hold up in the bad winds and all of the other elements." -
DeyDurkie5"Mayock saw sufficient arm strength from McCoy on a 24-yard TD pass to Jordan Norwood in the Bengals game, which made him think there's potential.
"He threw a seam route for a touchdown, and it was a really good throw," said Mayock. "Was it a strong-arm throw right down the seam? Yes. You go, 'that was pretty good.' So you take that in your head and you're going 'okay, if we had an A.J. Green or a Mike Wallace, would we be seeing more of that?' That's what makes this thing so difficult to evaluate.''" -
WriterbuckeyeLike I keep saying: how do you fairly evaluate McCoy or any QB when they have ZERO weapons around them and a line that has been nothing short of putrid most of the season?
What I see happening is so typical of how the Browns have been operated since the return it would be laughable if not so utterly pathetic.
They will likely make a quick decision one way or another on McCoy and get it wrong. You can see it coming. -

Its just a knee jerk front office pretty much. Seems people forget that McCoy was practically a rookie this year, and he had no off season to adjust to a new coach, nor a new system. Everyone wants to win now. I think we need to realize this process is going to take much longer to turn it around. You can't worry about what other teams are doing, every situation is different.Writerbuckeye;1006437 wrote:Like I keep saying: how do you fairly evaluate McCoy or any QB when they have ZERO weapons around them and a line that has been nothing short of putrid most of the season?

Also there are a lot of teams that come out of the wood work to have a good season, but then they fall back down to earth the next season (i.e. chiefs, buccs, won't be surprised if it's the niners next year). So, I wouldn't put much stock into those teams having great years until they actually show they can do it in back to back years. -
Commander of AwesomeSame could be said for Dalton's success. Pretty much every one of his WRs would be a #1 on the browns which is pretty sad. His oline has been far superior to the Browns, better running game (aka doesn't have a back up that can't stay on the field, or his #1 spending all of his time on the sidelines with injuries). His team doesn't abandon the running game, better defense, etc...Matt
Ryan had Roddy White, Sanchez had Santonio Holmes, Cam Newton has Steve Smith. Browns need playmakers. -

That's such a bullshit excuse and it's not just you. Guys like Tebow, Cam Newton, Andy Dalton and even recently, Christian Ponder, have looked pretty good and they are "rookies with new coaches and new systems."like_that;1006701 wrote:Its just a knee jerk front office pretty much. .
McCoy doesn't have the most talent around him, that I'll admit, but he has had plenty of opportunities and when he has, he's done himself no favors with his play. That has been my bone of contention all along. His supporting cast isn't stellar but he's done NOTHING, in his opportunities, CONSISTENTLY to show that he's a starting/winning NFL QB. People need to quit making excuses for a 3rd round QB. -
BR1986FBListening to 92.3 this morning, "Mr Conspiracy Theory", Chuck Booms believes that if given the opportunity (assuming it could be done), there's no way that Shurmur and the front office would allow Peyton Hillis to rush for 190 yards and lead the Browns to a victory tonight. He says there would be such a "why didn't you use him like that from game 1" backlash from the fans that the front office wouldn't want to deal with it.
Don't know about you guys but I'd just be happy that they beat the piss & black and that Shurmur finally "grew/adapted" in his game plan. Thoughts? -
Commander of AwesomeChuck Boom sounds like an idiot.

It's not a bullshit excuse. What do the other QBs have to do with McCoy? Absolutely nothing. Everyone comes into a different situation. Ponder is a stretch, because I don't think he has looked well at all, and when it comes down to it, that was a wasted draft pick. Dalton has done just enough to allow the rest of his team to win games. You should also consider the Bengals haven't beaten a winning team, and Dalton is benefiting from Cedric running as well as he did in 2009. You can't discredit what a running game does for your QB, no matter how good or shitty he is. Ask Yates at Houston and Smith in SF. As for Tebow, come on.....BR1986FB;1006868 wrote:That's such a bullshit excuse and it's not just you. Everyone was very high on Sanchez during his rookie year. What has it been like for him since then? All I have seen is people trash him, and discredit anything positive he does by giving all the credit to the defense.
I am not trying to be a McCoy apologist, because at times he does look like complete shit, however he does she some flashes, and he is honestly the first QB Cleveland has had that I believe wants to succeed, and will put in all the work in time to succeed. You might be sick of people apologizing for McCoy, but im sick of Cleveland fans ready to throw a QB under the bus if he doesn't look like Aaron Rodgers after 8 games. This team has been put into a shitty situation with years of incompetent management. With Heckert, I see they are finally going into a direction. Cleveland fans need to learn the word "patience." I say give McCoy another year, with a true off season to see what he can do. If he doesn't improve, then pull the plug. Maybe sign a decent vet to be a backup just in case McCoy doesn't get it done. -

yes sir. Give mccoy a line, at least one weapon, and a runnin game and he will succeed. ill bet the bank on itlike_that;1006913 wrote:It's not a bullshit excuse. BR1986FBTrue, Durkie.
The McCoy excuses ARE bullshit. He's played more than a season so he's not a "rookie." Every other "rookie" QB came into the same situation (green to the offenses, coaches, etc) and they seem to be thriving. He had a taste of it last season and his performance has regressed. He's a THIRD fucking round QB, people...his chance of success was a coin flip to begin with. -
DeyDurkie5
those other rookies have weapons, and a good offensive scheme. and they also have running games.BR1986FB;1006948 wrote:True, Durkie.

I think your high expectations at the beggining of the season (3000+ yd season), is why you are so hard on him now lol.BR1986FB;1006964 wrote:"All aboard !!! The 'excuse train' is a comin !" -

What are you talking about? He's at 2500+ yards right now. Unless he completely shits in his hat the last 4 games he'll easily eclipse 3000.like_that;1006975 wrote:I think your high expectations at the beggining of the season (3000+ yd season), is why you are so hard on him now lol.
I'm being hard on him because he continues to throw to receivers late, stares them down, etc. Like I said, he's had a lot of drops by his receivers but he's also had quite a few drops (interceptions) by his opponents. -
DeyDurkie5
so pretty much what you are saying is you want colt to be peyton manning, in his 2nd year(first ful year)? gotcha. sorry im not as hard on him as you are, but I see a determined winner who just needs a few more peices in place to lead this team to the playoffs. If he isn't and we draft a qb in the next draft, then fine i dont give a shit. if we get barkley or rg3 then we wil just be drafting another qb to come in and do the exact same thing. only 2 people would win with the talent we have on offense. brady and peyton. You can hate on him all you want, and call it the excuse train, but in my opinion is a fair assesment to say he has been in a shitstorm of a team for the 2 years on this offenseBR1986FB;1006964 wrote:"All aboard !!! Commander of AwesomeI'd say Rodgers as well.
-
DeyDurkie5
only reason i left him off, is his recieving core is best in the nfl. brady and manning dont have that talent level at their expense.Commander of Awesome;1007000 wrote:I'd say Rodgers as well. -

Ummm, no. I want him to be a QB who progresses, instead of regresses, in his 2nd year from his first. If I saw progression & promise I'd be ALL for moving ahead with him. I don't see that.DeyDurkie5;1006990 wrote:so pretty much what you are saying is you want colt to be peyton manning, in his 2nd year(first ful year)? gotcha.
Haha...and the offense is a few players away on the O-Line (two and one could be Steinbach) and at WR (probably 2) from being more than adequate. They don't need a QB that can't make all of the throws, reacts slowly and telegraphs his throws.
Putting a Barkley or RG3 in there with the same upgraded tools won't necessarily impede them. We are of a difference of opinion that they upgrade around McCoy and he'll be a "winner." You say "yes" while I disagree. -
DeyDurkie5
so bringing in a rookie qb again, is going to help that? I just don't see it. get playmakers in there, and if mccoy absolutely sucks ass this next year, you draft your qb. that's my opinion on the matter. I may eat crow, but at least we aren't making the same mistakes we have been for the past 12 yearsBR1986FB;1007063 wrote:Ummm, no.
