Cleveland Browns 2011 Super Awesome In-Season Thread

  • like_that
Shurmur is a complete fucking joke. This team practically has the same personnel as last season, except they don't have the toughest schedule in the league this time. The fact shurmur might not even match last season's win total is absolutely pathetic.

Good. Sounds like the local pussies we have in the media finally held his feet to the fire. About time...

Wow I hope he didn't QQ and run out of the presser.

For the draft, I think Barkley, DeCastro then a WR like Brian Quick in ther 2nd would be an excellent draft. I'm not a huge believer in RBs but I wouldnt cry about it if we got Richardson, DeCastro, then Brian Quick or Burfect.

From what I understand Shurmur was giving some kind of rant about the team making progress and one of the reporters literally rolled his eyes. Shurmur apparently called him out during the conference for rolling his eyes and then ended it shortly after.

Also did not like being informed that Browns lead the league in dropped passes.

We heard different stories then. I heard he stormed out sucking his thumb, adjusting his diaper...;)

No need to be disrespectful. Fail on the journalist for not being professional.

    True. If it was me I would've pulled a Jim Mora/Allen Iverson..."progress?"

An NFL coach needs to display better poise and have thicker skin. When the General panics the troops panic. Tells me a lot about Shurmur's character that he would call a guy out like that then leave the presser.

No you can't do that as a journalist. Rolling your eyes is what 10 year olds do. Everyone is frustrated w/ Shurmur, but the way to really get at him is to bring up facts and go about it professionally...rolling your eyes just gives him a legit reason to dodge the questions.

reporter was wrong. although who isn't frustrated by the browns? I mean he shows no emotion and says the same thing every press conferance, at some point be a realist and say this team is sucking ass.
  • Commander of Awesome
Just watched the presser, he didn't get mad at all about the rolled eyes nor did he cut-off the preser early. Not sure what people were talking about.

I think Quick in the 2nd round is a reach.

Burfect has 10 times the temper Suh has. He's a walking/talking 15 yard personal foul waiting to happen. No thanks.

I know it sounds silly, but I kind of think the Browns need a player with an attitude. Needs someone to fire the team up etc... I don't see it on the current team.
  • OQB
They need something to liven that locker room up.

TJ Ward is out for Thursday's game as well....

Yeah, like Ray Lewis minus the murders. Didn't hear it but I heard on 92.3 that in the pregame "hype" that when Ray Lewis was in the middle of the team circle he yelled "the ONLY thing exciting in Cleveland today is US." Arrogant bastard....too bad it was true.

This has been a big reason the Browns run defense has looked extra horrible as of late. They just don't have the same level of play coming out of the Young/Adams combo.

    Very true...
  • grodt
I'd love a defensive player that can fire up the troops and make opponents think twice about going their direction but I don't want a dumbass who hurts his team with stupid penalties (Suh) more then he helps them.
  • sleeper
I still think the biggest need is top tier linebacker. Look at what guys like Von Miller and the guy from San Francisco can do for a defense. The browns get that, and our defense is golden.
  • Commander of Awesome
Patrick Willis I think is who you're referring to. He's a special talent, I dont think anyone thinks Burfect will be a Willis.

Pat Shurmur is a career position coach.

No one takes him seriously when he talks about progress because his offense is more archaic than the Mangini/Daboll regime's, and to Browns fans that was thought to be impossible.

He knows he's in way over his head, and has spent the year laying the groundwork to lay his failure on McCoy to deflect the blame from himself.

Next year will come, and it will be more of the same, yet at that point anyone who doesn't already know will realize the emperor has no clothes, and this guy should not be an NFL head coach.

Holmgren set the franchise back a minimum of 3 years with that hire, and it will be a black mark of Holmgren's career because the experiment with him in Cleveland will fail if he expects Pat Shurmur to ever be anything more than a 6-7 win a year coach.

Only thing he can do now is admit he was wrong, fire Shurmur, and coach the team himself. He might be a piss poor executive, but he can coach.

I am positive that even with the same roster this year there is no way a Holmgren led offense could possibly be as bad as the turd Shurmur lays every week and calls a game plan.

Maybe that was holmgrens plan? To hire shurmer for now and get the talent to compete in the draft and when he has the talent move shurmer to offensive cord. And then take over the coaching position. Maybe I'm just wishful thinking

yeah, shurmur at offensive coordinator seems like a winning move

I'd be happy if he was a Navorro Bowman. San Francisco has really good linebackers. Throw in Aldon Smith too.
