OQBI am all for giving him a shot, he is a good QB.....I personally without my Browns glasses on can't see him winning a super bowl. Like I said I really really really hope I am wrong on this one, But we have to be realistic here.

OQBYou guys and your alter egos crack me up! Take your own advice.

royal_kI thought Colt showed enough in the games he played, before the last 2, to give him a shot to run the WCO. The last 2 games were not a good measuring stick. Baltimore and pittsburg stuffed Hillis, who was playing at about 50%, and just teed off on Colt. He really had no chance in either of those games. Not to mention he didn't have the best weapons to throw to.

like_thatAlso most people seem to forget he was a rookie who didn't even get to play a full schedule. I am not saying I am sold on him yet, but he definitely is worth another look. See what he can do when he comes into the season knowing he is the starter.
One thing he definitely needs to work on is his arm strength. He doesn't improve on that, then he is a lost cause in the NFL. -

Exactly!! I didn't say we need to just bench him and move on, but if he doesn't improve this year I think its time to move on. Aaron rogers was throwing to a couple of nobodys last night...especially when driver went out. Who would've ever guessed jordy nelson would've had a breakout game like he did. Aaron rogers is only an inch taller than mccoy...but has a rocket arm. That is the one thing I want to see improve is that arm strength. -
Commander of AwesomeNelson has been solid all season, he's not a nobody. He'd be #1 WR on the browns.

BR1986FBI'd be more worried about ANY QB getting the Browns to the PLAYOFFS before I'd be talking "leading us to a championship." This team has to crawl before it can walk.

To be fair, had McCoy not gotten injured in the NCG, he would've had a very good chance of winning a Nat'l Title. They damn near won w/ their scrub QB.OrrvilleQB;668828 wrote:Right back at ya lady! Are you happier now that you got YOUR opinion out? If you don't like me skip over my posts, won't hurt me one bit.
Sure last night has nothing to do with the Browns, but the Packers WCO is very very good and with a great QB. I simply posed a question...obviously you guys think McCoy can get us to a super bowl, but I can't. Can he win and produce numbers in the WCO, sure but is he a Super Bowl Winning QB....I just can't see it. He was the all-time winning QB in college football with Texas, but still couldn't win the championship. I really hope you guys are right, but time will tell.
Vickers can be used and is a great FB, but why pay him a big contract if the FB is not a priority in the WCO. I say deal him get a nice draft pick or player or both and move on. -
BR1986FBPerhaps his injury in the NC game has something to do with his current arm strength? He did just come out recently and say that he still suffers from that injury and should be 100% by training camp.
Once they get the kid into a full year of NFL strength training it should improve. I don't think he'll ever have a rocket but it should be fine for what this team will look to do on offense.
The WCO isn't predicated on the vertical passing game (stretch the field). That's part of the reason our receivers sucked last year. Daboll was trying to fit square pegs into round holes. They were trying to go vertical with guys like Robo & MoMass when clearly that is NOT their game. That's why I'm thinking we could see marked improvement with the current WR's in this system. That being said, they still need playmakers. -
SportsAndLadyI love how much everyone is worrying about Colt McCoy...as of right now, the QB position is probably 2nd or 3rd from the bottom of our worries.

Yeah, if the Browns were headed into the season with only Delhomme or Wallace as options THEN I'd be worried. I'm not 100% sold on McCoy but I think he'll be fine in this system if they play to his strengths (mobility & accuracy). -
OQBHe still needs to improve his arm strength...the Windows close so fast in the NFL, and he needs to ne able to fire it into some small Windows.

He didn't seem to have that problem when he played. His issue, to me, was when they were trying to stretch the field and go vertical. Too many wobbly, underthrown passes. I saw him zip quite a few passes into those "small windows." You keep him to those 5-20 yard passes and he'll be fine, accurate and have adequate zip. -

Eh I don't know, some of those short passes seemed pretty slow to me. There were a few times I was thinking his ball was going 6 the other way after his release, but somehow he was lucky enough not to get picked.
His deep ball passing is definitely where his arm strength is exposed though. The few times our WRs actually got open down field, colt would under throw it and it would give the db time to recover and make a play. I think part of the problem is Colt throws off his back foot a lot. -
ytownfootballHe's more than capable of chucking the rock 30-40 yards, that provides enough stretch to accomplish a desired result. I think arm strength is an over rated attribute personally, big gains of 50+ yards don't typically see balls thrown 45+ yards in the air.
Bottom line is that a WCO is going to be what happens and he fits it well. Our defense needs to improve and I think running some time off the clock while on offense will help in that regard. Lots of questions but if we're headed where it appears we are, I think we'll see marked improvement. -

I wondered if I was the only one to notice this. He doesn't seem to setup and step into the deep ball. It always looks like he's throwing it as he is going backwards.like_that;670118 wrote:Eh I don't know, some of those short passes seemed pretty slow to me. I dont remember seeing this. -
OQB
And this is what I meant when I said he needs to improve his arm strength. You can't get zip on a throw if your constantly throwing off that back foot and or falling backwards.se-alum;670134 wrote:I wondered if I was the only one to notice this. BR1986FBI found this over on the OBR and found it quite interesting. The Browns rank 6th, all-time, in winning %. Can you imagine what it would be if that piece of shit Modell hadn't moved the franchise?

like_thatWow, that is definitely very shocking list.

royal_kBefore their return, they had a winning % over .600......nobody even close to that.
Fuck you modell! -

I knew the Steelers sucked from their inception to when Rooney took over but I had no idea they'd be 16th on that list. Needless to say, Paul Brown was a VERY good football coach for the Browns. It's when Modell bought them that things went down hill (got rid of Paul & Jim Brown). -
