Cleveland Browns 2011 Super Awesome In-Season Thread

Oh wow, awesome a UFL coach......
  • OQB
Yeah, but he did coach some good WR's before his short tenure in the UFL.....look into it :)

I think last night, the Packers, and EVERY time they play, the Patriots, have shown us the blueprint on how you beat the Pittsburgh Steelers. You THROW the ball, quickly & effectively. Holmgren is not stupid which is why he's implementing the WCO.
  • Commander of Awesome
Yeah, now all we need is to get McCoy some weapons.
  • BR1986FB
I'll be intrigued to see what happens with Cribbs. I'd venture to guess that the "experiment" with him at WR ends and he's strictly a specials guy, IF they don't try to trade him. Don't think the front office was thrilled with a) his contract situation and b) speaking out against the dismissal of Mangini.

Weren't happy w/contract stuff, but he was injured (dislocated toes) so hard to really judge performance but it was definitely sub standard. Dabol crapped the bed in using him in the wildcat, direct snap, run...pretty easy to see it coming, may have only passed the damn thing a couple times (once to Colt for a TD?) don't remember for sure but it wasn't a lot.

Hillis made the big pass to Colt.

    yeah, couldn't remember for sure

Will also be interesting to see what they do with Lawrence Vickers.

If Holmgren/Heckert play their cards right, between the draft and FA they can possess some serious "makeup speed" on other teams in this division. Not saying they will be a playoff contender in 2011 (if there's a season) but they should be MUCH more exciting on offense.

Who do you think they will go after in FA?

I hope they keep Vickers, dude's the best FB in the league in a major reason for Hillis success. Keeps his mouth shut, plays the right way etc...

If I'm them, any number of these guys:

    Mathias Kiwanuka
    Chad Greenway
    Paul Pusluzny (sp?)
    Sidney Rice
    Steve Breaston
    Steve Smith (NYG)
    James Jones
    Santonio Holmes (longshot)

I'd like 2 of those 5 WR's. Kiwanuka is a wild card because of his injury but I'd love a tackling machine like Greenway or Pusluzny. Haven't really studied the O-Line free agents but a guard might not be a bad idea. David Harris from the Jets would have been on my list but I've heard he will be franchised.

The CBA will greatly effect if those guys are even available. And I'm worried about Steve Smith's knee, and what he has left in the tank.

Ok so after last night how many of you browns fans think Colt McCoy can get us to a super bowl?? I personally think we need a better QB. I don't think colt can win us a super bowl.

If the cba doesn't get resolved the browns are screwed in fa and trades...we will only have the draft! Let's all hope and pray it gets resolved.

Vickers is great trade bait....the west coast system does not use a fb and therefore why do we need to have one of the better ones in the league? I think he and rogers are on the trading block.

Tell that to Pro Bowl FB Mack Strong who lead the way for one of Shaun Alexander's best seasons under Holmgren.

Holmgren has always used a FB. Just hasn't gotten "numbers production" from them.

Last night has nothing to do with anything related to the Browns, not sure why that is an issue. I am also curious why you'd be willing to get rid of Vickers as he doesn't fit the west coast offense and throw out McCoy who does?

I agree with Vickers on the block to a degree...but he has usese with Holmgren.

thats an excellent point. I forgot about Strong. First things first, we need to resign the guy, until then he's a FA and we can't trade him.

Personally I am more excited to see Colt play the WCO after watching Green Bay. He doesn't have to be at Aaron Rodgers level after playing half a season as a rookie. The use of shotgun and short-medium passes screams Texas' offense in the Colt McCoy years. I don't know much in regards of McCoy's arm strength but I saw him put zip on some balls last season. His deep ball does need work but if he works on his strength and accuracy it can't get any worse. Don't take this as me saying Colt = ARod, I'm just saying that I think Colt could be successful in the same type of offense.
  • BR1986FB
I read a stat where, last night, Aaron Rodgers throws average 6.9 per attempt with a long of 35 yards. I think McCoy can handle that plus the WCO will roll him out more than Daboll did, utilizing his mobility.

Basically the point of my paragraph of rambling lol...

McCoy was way too efficient in the same type of offense at Texas to be worrying about finding a replacement for him (especially not knowing how he'll perform) with so many other needs.

I literally disagree and SMH at every post orrvilleQB makes...he means well, but god damn...

Right back at ya lady! Are you happier now that you got YOUR opinion out? If you don't like me skip over my posts, won't hurt me one bit.

Sure last night has nothing to do with the Browns, but the Packers WCO is very very good and with a great QB. I simply posed a question...obviously you guys think McCoy can get us to a super bowl, but I can't. Can he win and produce numbers in the WCO, sure but is he a Super Bowl Winning QB....I just can't see it. He was the all-time winning QB in college football with Texas, but still couldn't win the championship. I really hope you guys are right, but time will tell.

Vickers can be used and is a great FB, but why pay him a big contract if the FB is not a priority in the WCO. I say deal him get a nice draft pick or player or both and move on.

McCoy has played basically like half a season. Nobody knows if he can win Super Bowl's or not. How about we give him a chance and see what he can do before we decide to part ways with him.
  • Commander of Awesome
I was all aboard on McCoy until the last two games. Dont get me wrong, I still believe he can be a solid starter for us, but my unreal expectations based on his early play brought me back to earth.
