Duck Dynasty, will Phil's interview doom the show?

Of course it's from his perspective...just as yours stems from your perspective....making him whatever you want him to be.isadore;1556907 wrote:as viewed from his perspective ... -

Obviously I can not make him whatever I want him to be. I doubt I can make him into a Buddhist, critic of the 2nd Amendment, opponent of hunting. Because there is no evidence to support any of those descriptions of him. There is overwhelming evidence of his homophobia and racism.Con_Alma;1556910 wrote:Of course it's from his perspective...just as yours stems from your perspective....making him whatever you want him to be. -

Sure you can. Just peice together bit's and peices of statements using individual words to create such evidence.isadore;1556911 wrote:Obviously I can not make him whatever I want him to be. I doubt I can make him into a Buddhist, critic of the 2nd Amendment, opponent of hunting....
I will concede, however, if you say you can't you won't...which becomes a self fulfilling prophecy because it results in you once again making him what you want. -
HereticWhy is it funny that on a thread with isadore, isidore and wasidore, the original is still the most annoying?

individual words would not create evidence acceptable evidence to most people. Stringing the rights words together can provide you with all the ammunition you need to make him whatever you choose....or you can make him a racist homophobe. Either way you get what you seek...because it's "from your perspective". Well done!isadore;1556919 wrote:individual words would not create evidence acceptable evidence to most people. it is too bad you use your intellect to practice sophistry, but I guess you don't see it because of your perspective. his whole life, ok. He grew up in a parish known for it intense racism, a kkk stronghold with a history of racial violence. After living there and observing the system he describes the victims as happy and contented, he gives his implied endorsement of the system. On homosexual his sermon and interview, two separate statements, under quite different circumstances definitely show his homophobia.Con_Alma;1556932 wrote:...and yet that whole interview and whole sermon is just small sample of his entire life.....but those small pieces help you define exactly what you what him to be. Tact? Sir\M'am you could not be more wrong, on innumerable occasions I have been accused of being tactless. But in the case of Mr. Robertson when he seemingly speaks his convictions as in a his church sermon, he demonstrates his homophobia which is repeated in his interview. When he reminisces about the good old days in Cadoo Parish he gives his support to a despicable system practiced in one its most virulent forms right there.Con_Alma;1556936 wrote:...because that's what you want him to be. I don't speak for those who have accused you of being tactless.
Your focus on the above examples provides the exact information needed to determine Mr. Robinson is exactly who you want him to be. You are doing an excellent job in highlighting the information. -

Robertson lived for for many years in an segregated system that benefited his race and subjugated another race. He lived in a community known for racial violence to enforce that system. That system has at least in part collapsed and the injustice of it almost universally accepted. He chooses to paint a false picture of the victims and give his implied support for system. That makes him a racist.Con_Alma;1556942 wrote:I don't speak for those who have accused you of being tactless.

He has chosen on repeated occasions over many years to attack homosexuals and in sermons before congregations condemn not just their acts, but them.

RotinajCon_Alma and Isadore going at it. I'm now anxiously waiting for Sleepers input.

Yes, you have chosen to focus on these types of things multiple times. It's lending to your position quite nicely. Well done. -

DeyDurkie5the fact you guys have devoted 23 pages of posts and over 500 posts to this topic shows how retarded ALL of you are. He's an old, conservative hick that hates gays. Who gives a shit what he thinks? Why does him thinking gays are wrong have anything to do with the actual progression of gay marriage/rights in this country? Move on with your lives people and stop caring what random people on TV shows say about topics. Did Obama say this? LOL no.

There is no logical framework to support this, or at least none which you have articulated.isadore;1556879 wrote:3. Gosh from previous statements it would seem if anything he would consider homosexuality worse than bestiality. He may have even consider bestiality “the gateway drug.” to the abomination of homosexuality.
Most of this thread, you've just shown two quotes from broader messages and assumed the conclusion without drawing it.
I provided a framework for my assertions. You've not. Try again.

And he is very condemning the person not the act.
I'd submit that we, as a human collective, fit this mold: We receive in ourselves the due penalty for our wickedness. We're full of murder, envy, strife, hatred. We are insolent, arrogant, and often God-haters. We are heartless, senseless, and ruthless. We invent ways of doing evil.
Claiming wrongdoing, even calling it evil, is not hate. I do evil. Paul admits to doing evil. So does David ... in fact, he admits to BEING evil in his heart.
Granted, I understand that you, being full of nothing but love and compassion, may not be evil like the rest of us in the world, but I would at least hope you can see the distinction between pointing out what one thinks are imperfections in another and the former hating the latter.
You can infer what you wish, but it is speculation at most. I infer only that which he explicitly states, because I prefer to assume as much innocence in my fellow man as possible, while recognizing that it is never fully present. As such, I will not assume malevolence, though you seem to be able to do so.

You've spelled out the circumstances, but answer me this one question: Is it impossible for someone who has been forced to live under such circumstances to be happy?
In essence, can a person be happy IN SPITE of their circumstances? If so, then what you've just stated changes nothing as to whether or not he was simply being truthful about those with whom he worked. Plainly stated truth carries no bias and furthers no agenda. Our interpretations of fact and truth are what do that.

His home area has a long history of extreme violence against blacks up to the present. I think we can IMPLY from his statements an attempt to cover up the intimidation of the black community. They lived under a regime of terror..
Actually, it's "INFER" there. And we have insufficient evidence to cover anything up, so long as we're approaching the topic logically. You've continued to list facts, but you have yet to offer one single iota of evidence that a person could not, by any stretch, find happiness under such trying circumstances.
I urge you to do so if you are able.
You perhaps can know the thoughts that others have not articulated. Reading minds like that is a gift, and you should spread it.isadore;1556879 wrote:He is both a homophobe and a racist.
But forgive the rest of us if we cannot do the same, and must rely on logic and empirically sensed communication in order to know the sentiments of others. And forgive us if we do not simply take your word for it.
