Why is every dumb shit a failure of our educational system? Some people were just born to flip burgers.

Completely agree. Parents are the main reason for a students failure. Those blaming it on the teachers are just looking for a scapegoat.

And the solution to "fixing it" is to shove all the money into the bottom 20% of the students instead of trying to bring the top even higher. Also dumbing up the requirements and testing to make it easier. This girl will never be smart. Its not in her genetics.
Damn it cc, you made me rep you.

Not that I am supporting Fly4fun at all, but I think that maybe he meant that she is am embarrassment of the educational system because someone that appears that ignorant actually graduated. I agree with other though, failing students are the problems of their parents on almost every occasion. Ask most teachers about parent-teacher conferences and what parents come in and show interest and which ones don't. The parents they NEED to talk to and discuss the child don't bother to show up.

wait you just repped a guy who argued that Rachel Jantel cannot be smart because its "not in her genetics" without any proof or anything? GFY. Had she been raised in my family or yours (or anybody with a half decent family) she would be more than fine. Sure genetics may force a small percentage of people away from higher education and/or the ability to be considered intelligent but most of it is education received (especially at a young age). It's absolutely crazy to say that people we consider dumb at 20 are dumb because of "genetics". That's a load of shit. If you went and lived her situation from age 3 and you hers, I bet it would all be flipped.

GFY all of you saying we don't need education reform. I'm pretty conservative and even I see the need for it. Were like 40th in the world overall. We should be top 5 in literally every single category with our infrastructure. We need more privatized schooling to educate our best and brightest but we also need to develop the ability to educate the masses better as well. We need to budget for it. Quit with this socialize goddamn medicine and focus our budget on something that actually benefits everybody.

    She gots a 3.0!!!

In related news, isn't it racist that the radio host offered her a scholarship to a "black college"? :)

Haha. You pulled one part of his post to make your point. GFY.

No, it's not genetics. It's environment. Some of it might be genetics. Not everyone can be smart, even with good education. The reps mostly were for the part about needing ditch diggers. One of the biggest problems we have right now is that everyone thinks everyone should have high-paying, high profile, college grad type jobs. It can't work that way. It won't work that way.

As for your last paragraph, if we manipulated our educational system the way places like China do, we'd be at the top. The reason we aren't is because of what ccrunner said (and thus, the reps). We spend most of our time trying to make the ditch diggers into A students, and therefore drag down the rest.

Stop pointing to genetics you mofo.

Just Kidding. Very fair response and I agree with most of your points. As to your original comment however, I have learned during my introduction to law that not only was what I did fair game, but necessary to win my argument ;) (and thus I did it again in this post).

It's not that far fetched to have a person that does not speak good English to excel in other classes. I had a guy that went to my HS that could barely speak English. He's a physician now. Lol ccrunner and genetics.

Did the kid from you HS grow up in America? There is a difference between a language barrier and straight illiteracy. I refuse to believe that Rachel Jantel gets a 3.0 at my high school (or any other where our classes are designed to prepare you for college). I absolutely refuse to believe that.

    Lol ccrunner and genetics.
    agreed

I have a hard time believing Jantel excels in any class other than lunch period.

    agreed
He moved here when he was in elementary. I also believe that Rachel Jantel doesn't get a 3.0 at my HS at all!

Rachel Jantel and 3.0 should only be used in the same sentence if it is something to the effect of the following:

"Rachel Jantel can eat 3.0 cheeseburgers per minute in competition."

Or she finished 3.0 from the bottom of her class.
  • thavoice
Or she can count to 3.0 before seeking a calculator for assistance.

Or she serviced TM and 3.0 of his friends on a weekly basis.

How is his English now? Did he work at it? Determination goes a long way in determining how well you do in life. People like Rachel Jantel lack not only pure intelligence but the will to succeed in the classroom. Honestly that's the biggest problem I have with the black community's "leaders" right now. Rather than focusing on promoting a culture of getting ahead through education and self improvement they are constantly focusing on racism and prejudice and how to exploit injustice rather than change it. Now I am not saying that racism and prejudice shouldn't be attacked head on, it should. I just think there should be an effort from the so called "leaders" such as Rev. Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton to challenge the communities to improve themselves rather than merely blaming the system for a lack of improvement. I think by doing that and constantly moving forward as a country when it comes to equality and diversity we will see the biggest gains. We can't have one or the other. We need both.

His English is good now he still has a heavy accent though. Dude worked hard at everything he did. Even though you couldn't understand him at times in HS he performed very well in English class.

Most of these so called black leaders get rich off of racism. Focusing on the education of those that are in the black community that are struggling is the furthest thing from their minds. I volunteer for a tutoring program in the city of Toledo it would amaze you how the so called NAACP is involved. They are a joke!
