No it does not make sense.

Can't find anything on google right now, trying to check how many different homes and business properties their are in Watertown.

Figure how many homes they needed to search in all those square miles. That's friggin' a lot.

Figure 20 block perimeter is 12 square miles....The average 40x80 lot is 3200 sqft....roughly 10,000 homes per square mile, a little less for streets and what not.

So we are talking 100k homes. It's all relative. They had 10k cops there. "Huge" in comparison to what?

The property of 100k homes searched in less than 24 hours by 10k cops seems really huge to me.

It's 50 homes per 2000 teams of 4. Very doable.

Assuming all 10k are doing searches, which we know they weren't. But even so, if you took 15 minutes for each search, that is 12.5 hours just in normal search time.

C'mon gut, you are starting to sound like reclegend. :)

We know that if 10,000 cops were present, all won't be doing a search. There would be a perimeter of 25 square miles (or whatever that number would be) and then there'd be the units that are searching.

Either way, this issue of the search needs to be put to bed, finally.

Yeah, and I only allocated 8000 to search. 25 square miles is a perimeter of 20 miles....That's 100 cops per mile, or about one every 52 feet on the perimeter.

It's just so easy, isn't it.

Hopefully never because im sure its going to be something stupid.

I didn't say that. I said "huge" is a relative term. Even in comparison to the overall size of Boston, 25 square miles is not a huge area (the actual perimeter of 20 blocks is more like 12 sq miles). It's hardly the same thing, but successful searches for lost planes or lost hikers have covered far bigger areas, with far less people.

Good point. Planes and hikers frequently get lost and hide in big cities and suburbs.

    To go buy gold

Planes and hikes are not trying to hide from you. In a planes case it would be much bigger making it easier to spot and in a hikers case he is trying to be found. That is just a horrible comparison.

Not really, their searches are easier but much, much larger areas and many, many fewer searchers. And a plane that goes down in the ocean is pretty well hidden. What is horrible is your understanding of the term "relative".

It actually is a pretty good comparison when you consider all the relative factors. It's not like they were searching 100k unoccupied homes, or dealing with a network of tunnels and caves.

Or if you want to talk about searches for the DC sniper, or even escaped convicts...much larger areas and far, far fewer people out looking.

How is this even news? I hate the media sometimes. Basically they're saying that they didn't have license to carry their handguns. Here's a shocker, criminals who blow places/people up aren't going to go and register for a gun. Did they register for a license to make bombs? A license to kill? The media and gov. trying to push their agendas any chance they get. On the flip side, if they HAD been registered to carry, I'm betting the headline would have been "Gun loving NRA members go crazy and on a rampage!" Idiots.
